I realized that the jumpy dodge made with B is the most powerful thing I can do by far.
I killed the golem that way.
    Rune defense, then attack-attack-jumpdodge!
    Then jumpdodge
again... Wait for the defense power to be available again... Aand go! Attack-attack-jumpdodge!
Onetwothree onetwothree... repeated for about 30 times ended up being super successful.
    Jumpdodge is great.

Witcher 1? Ugh, yes. Buggy, and with a bunch of quests that never show up if you forget to do one thing, or something.

Also, it's confusing as hell, because you really need to have read the books to get a grasp at what's going on.

I read the books right after playng wild hunt a year it came out i think. I was really in love with the cast of Geralt, Ciri and Yennfer. Triss was ok. and the books just made me love them more. and i understood more of Geral'ts character.

Geralt looks a bit devoid of personality for what I've seen, but ok that's probably for the best given it's an rpg.

Futher you progress with in the game the more you see of his personality. But you chose how he comes off as.

Yeah, Gerald does have a genuine personality. It’s subtle, but it’s there.

Geralt’s personality mostly comes through in his dialogue

the books are the best, but I thought this game did an exceptional good job with Geralt

I don't know how to find stuff to heal. I used to have water and bread but I can't find merchants to sell them, so I have to keep making quests hoping not to die and keeping meditating. [face_thinking]

I feel like I'm missing something obvious once again.

Late to the thread, but good on you @3sm1r, you're in for a treat. But watch out for one of the merchants once you get to Novigrad. He constantly lies about his merchandise and must be brought to justice.

You can buy food from innkeepers and at food stalls (I know this sounds pithy but it's not). You can also hunt for food out in the fields. Wolves in particular not only hunt in packs Arisen but have livers with good HP buffs.

Also it's generally a good idea to rummage through everyone's stuff. Many people keep food around for lame reasons like "their own nourishment" when that food could be better served helping you tank some ghouls.

Edit: It's been a long time but a Reddit thread also reminded me - there are skills that help you regen. If your biggest issue is health depletion (IMO you should be staying on top of your equipment enough for this to not be a huge issue, but not everyone is as anal retentive about that as me), those can help.

    Oh I can hunt!
So perhaps I'll finally use the crossbow, which so far has been completely useless against enemies.

The crossbow is really useful against drowners when you're hunting for underwater treasure. It one-hit kills them every single time.

The crossbow is mostly used to down flying enemies and, as Internets noted, for some bizarre reason it's super powerful underwater.

I would just wave my sword frantically against flying enemies until they fall down in confusion. Then again, I play on the easiest setting.

I haven't gone too much underwater. It has been crucial just once when I was on mission with the witch with blond hair.

    (spoiler follows)
Right now I'm about to do the side quest of the priest in the island, when you have to meet him at midnight while he's praying at a fire with several peasants.

The stories so far are all rather interesting and original.

I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that does side quests better than Witcher 3. It’s something special.

yeah, on that particular point of view, Witcher destroys Zelda and it's not even close.
Then, of course, Zelda is special for other reasons.
