Once again, the fandom gears up to make its perennial mistake of thinking that some upcoming Star Wars project is going to "fix" that other Star Wars project they don't like. The big wheel keeps a-spinning around.

No tie-ins: "They've given up on the era!"

Tie-ins: "They're trying to fix the era!"

It'll add some small amount of further context to the films while telling a story of its own. Like every other Star Wars book.

A novel read by 1% of the people who saw TRoS won't "fix" anything.

I mean i guess whether or not a book/ or piece of EU material "Fixes" a movie really depends on the person.

Personally I don’t see how expanding the canon New Republic era will fix the ST in general. Sure it can improve upon some world building material but it will not remove several problems some fans had with the ST such as….

    1. New Republic gets one shotted.
    2. Underdog Rebels vs Empire 2.0
    3. Luke becomes the last Jedi, and now Rey is the only to bring the Jedi back
    4. Palpatine returned
    5. End of Skywalker bloodline
    6. Leia and Han breaking up.
    7. Reys relationship or lack of it with Luke.

    etc……

And some us here like if not love these choices that were made.

I think it can give more context to those things though and make it better.

I wanted to comment to share in the excitement over possibly learning more about Lando's family but this "let's relitigate/defend the ST for the thousandth time" discussion always sucks all of the air out of the room for me. Good run for the first page though, some actual hype in a release hype thread! Sorry for being so pissy right now but oh my word you guys

This may have been pointed out, but a like the similarity in titles between Light of the Jedi and Shadow of the Sith.

I'm kind of surprised this book is being written, considering it'll have to avoid mentioning the events of the previous 16 years.

Might give us a indicator of how much or little Luke and Lando are gonna partake in the Mandoverse stuff.

Granted this book seems to be in the wider ST era.

Mandoverse being more Post Endor Era.

Good point. The first post RoTJ Luke book should have been sometime in the 6yr gap between RoTJ and The Mandalorian (before he meets Grogu).

Get to see more of what Luke was doing in the final year of the war and the training he gave to Leia.

Yeah but this is honestly more interesting and more a tie in to TROS

You don't alway have to start from the beginning

True, but because I’m not much of a fan of TRoS, I prefer an early NR era Luke first.

Im not against ST tie ins, I’ll read them, but my preference lies in New Republic era works that isn’t focused on the future so much.

Example would be a Jedi Academy story where the main focus is not Ben Solos future falling to the dark side via Snoke. But a focus on other characters (Luke and various students) or Ben’s good side. Perhaps the enemy in the book/comic is not First/Final Order related. Of course I’m not against another tale of Snoke corrupting Ben.

I enjoy seeing the NR forces in The Mandalorian without getting constant foreshadowing of the NRs future failure.

It’s nice seeing Imperial remnants who will never (or not yet) become First Order. I’m looking forward to how they do Thrawn post RoTJ.

Okay but that's not what this book is about though.

True, was just stating my preference for Luke’s 1st post RoTJ book :)

    Fair enough.

So I wonder if something that is possible is will Luke know who Snoke is at this point and is Snoke even a thing by this point?

How ready is Palpatine ready to go?

Perhaps by the end of this Palpatine decides to go all in on Ben Solo

Casual reminder that I can lock threads until we have more news if they fall apart.

Otherwise, I remain hyped to see Darth Sidious more, see Luke more, see Luke and Lando more, to see Rey’s parents at all, to see more Ochi hype.
