Only played two of the nominated games. I'm out of touch

 

They seriously nominated "12 Minutes" for Best Independent Game? Lmao.

 

Just one for me, that one being 12 Minutes and yeah even then I'm not sure if it deserves a nod for best indie. I liked it but it has flaws for sure. Often times for that category it seems like it's more about what are the most recognizable indie games rather than best.

 

Change the name all you want, it's still a cursed category.

 

Even though I haven't played it yet, I hope LIS: True Colors receives some (if not all) of the awards its nominated for.

 

I need to play it for sure.

 

The Game Awards just keeps trying to get me to play more LiS. In all seriousness, I have been thinking about playing Before the Storm. I don't know why. Should I do it? No, I shouldn't.

I would agree with Keighley that GotY seems very open. I don't have a lot of clarity on where that one's gonna go. I find the nomination of It Takes Two for GotY to be kind of the weirdest of the bunch.

 

GotY being so wide open and, well, strange, seems like a by-product of it being a very weird year in terms of tentpole releases, as I think now we’ve hit all the stuff where a major chunk of development was screwed up by the pandemic.

 

Let's not also forget that this was supposed to be the year that Cyberpunk was supposed to get nominated for everything and sweep the awards but we all know what happened there.

 

Honestly I haven’t played almost any new games from this year the most recent game I have touched was Cyberpunk and Watch Dogs Legion. Not that I didn’t have fun with the mass effect remaster I did there just wasn’t any game that was new that I was like I needed to play this right now.

 

It Takes Two is the best game in that category.

Well, honestly? I'm interested in what announcements they'll make but I like Indie games and AA games more (compared to AAA games).

Honestly, best to go off the beaten path when it comes to video games nowadays; you'll be more easily surprised and entertained rather than just playing "whatever everyone else is playing" due to FOMO or something.

^ That last part was pretty much what I went through once upon a time.

 

Honestly? Single player AAA games now are often wonderful. It's your CODs and whatnot that suck.

But I like AA and indie as well..I play anything.

 

Yeah, have to second that - in terms of what top tier games can be Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is hard to beat. It was a stunning experience.

 

I actually think triple A games are better nowadays than they were a few years ago. Single player wise.

 

Definitely better than the 2000s, imho.

 

Like yea there are outliers but some of the best triple A single player games have come out in the last few years. I still think that indie games are usually better, but there are some great triple A stuff

 

I think that gaming in the 2010s and now the 2020s are miles ahead of the 2000s and even the "nostalgic" 1990s.
