Interesting news - At least my copy of Son of Dathomir will no longer look odd on the bookshelf!

So is this saying Disney isn't trying to control the SW comics anymore since they aren't really canon anyway (TV/movie shows have repeatedly retconned them)?

That would be a good move imo. Give it over to different creators and if something good comes out of it, adapt it to fit the SWCU on Disney+.

Dark Horse probably gave Disney a better/more reliable offer than IDW.

Sad that IDW is losing the license as their output has been, on average, quite good. But I'm glad all-ages comics will be continuing. Here's hoping that "Star Comics" spirit stays intact.
Absolutely nothing in the Screen Rant article, or the statements from Lucasfilm or Dark Horse, says anything even remotely to that effect.

This is what studios do - Marvel is the king of it. Get a lot of creators to create content and then what the MCU people really like they adapt it for the screen.

They're moving the all-ages line to a different external publisher than the one they were previously using. I think you're trying to put more into this story than is actually occurring at this time.

lmao no its just cause idw's licence was up . the Tv/movies only contradicted minor things . there still canon but this isn't the thread for that argument

These aren’t comparable. Dark Horse getting a license previously belonging to IDW says nothing about the canonical status of these stories. They’re still publishing Star Wars comics at Marvel, which is in-house.

As a general rule expectations should probably be kept in line with what has come before with IDW. Little or nothing is likely to change all that much re: type of content, level of canonicity, etc.

Also, this news is now confirmed on starwars.com, with an additional note that initial content will focus on the High Republic era.

Pity Randy Stradley retired earlier this year, it would have been great to see him deal with this new, post-canon batch of fans.

I do think it's kind of funny that within a year of the guy who said "I don't want to just do adaptations and tie-ins" leaving they are now handling the YA adaptations and tie-ins.

Pretty disappointing that they’re apparently only doing canon tie-ins. This would have been a perfect opportunity to let them finish their EU comics that were truncated when they lost the license.

Of course there doing new canon stuff no reason for them to do legends stuff sadly

I happy to see Dark Horse back ! Now just need some of dark horse characters to make a Canon comeback. Zayne Carrick is the one I would like to see.

Probably, but I would expect the ongoing story therein to swiftly resume over at DH in some form or another.

I can't imagine this will be substantially different from the IDW Adventures, but I'm interested in seeing if any old Dark Horse Star Wars creators or characters make a return - if Jaxxon could have his own SWA stories, why can't Zayne Carrick or Quinlan Vos?
I wonder if this will have any impact on the Legends Epic Collection and Omnibus reprints? It feels a bit dubious for Marvel to be selling DH's work while they're concurrent comic license-holders.
