It’s too late. It’s here. And at the worst time possible as the north of the county is cold now and everyone is socializing for the holidays. All indoors.

If Omicron is as much more contagious as the reports this weekend - I expect the holidays will catapult it to the dominate variant in record time.

Bold Prediction! Republicans who have gone out of their way to NOT help slow the spread of COVID-19 will start blaming South Africa for not containing Omnicron.

Oh who am I kidding we've got at least a few more weeks of Republicans saying Omnicrom is a hoax made up by Biden and the Dems.

Nah it’s not politically as good as still blaming China

A China that's increasingly been getting involved in Africa over the last couple decades. I think we can work this to make blaming South Africa also count as blaming China if we workshop the pitch a little bit

Masks are returning here, but nearly everybody I saw wearing one this morning either didn't cover their nose or only covered their chin... I may or may not have made a few remarks on how that type of mask-wearing was pointless...

Merck's COVID pill is only 30% protective against hospitalization or death in follow-up studies. Major disappointment.

It's all up to Pfizer now. Hopefully their follow-up data is as good as the preliminary studies.

Also, Americans are not going to go back to lockdowns. Masks are iffy as well in many corners, even the ones who were willing to do it before. My area is deep-blue and practically no-one is doing it. I am fearful of omicron+delta+flu+RSV+rhinovirus. My hospital's census is sky-high and we're not even in the dead of winter yet.

Thankfully, the mRNA vaccines can be quickly adapted to new variants. It's pretty much the only silver lining at the moment (at least until more data on the Pfizer pill comes out).

Can the vaccines and booster shot work against the omicron variant or is it too early to say?

Well, the seemingly inevitable happened, I was in close contact with a known positive - specifically my boss, and specifically he had a positive antigen test right after getting an SMS about a close contact... after we had lunch. [face_plain]

So now I'm in quarantine, and I think I get to get a PCR test 5-7 days after his PCR test inevitably comes back positive. Really didn't want to test out that vaccine protection against severe disease but the odds of that seem... high.

I still can’t hold a meeting with my boss in-person indoors because it goes against my university system's restrictions.

I hope everything turns out fine, Ramses.

    Sorry to hear that.
I don't currently have a boss, but I work in an open air office where everyone stopped giving a **** long ago except me, so there's that
