Skyrim came out ten years ago, and I'm still playing it.

 

... when a typical conversation with your mates goes like this :

"He had red hair ,he's in this Danish thing, he was in harry potter "

"Ron Weasely?"

"No, no! the other one "

"his dad?"

"No. The other harry potter , brilliant ... creatures .."

"Fantastic Beasts?"

"yeah , the main guy ."

"Mads Mikelson?"

"No! the main guy . "

" er... Ben Wishaw ?

"No! "

"oh Eddie Redmayne?"

"Yes!!"

"but he doesn't have red hair."

"no , but he did in this other thing."

 

Red... mayne. It literally means red hair.

 

One minute you're young and carefree and the next minute your kids are asking for help with their history homework because you were alive in the nineteen hundreds.

 

My daughter accused me of being "OLD", I told her she was ageist. "OLD" is not an insult, it's a privilege. If she looked up from her damn phone I wouldn't have missed the entrance to her new job (her car was in the shop).

 

With a bunch of mods, it can look pretty damn good.

 

When you spot your best friend from school on LinkedIn, so you message him to say "'ello, mate" and find out he's got GRANDCHILDREN.

 

Yesterday I walked into work in the pouring rain and thanked the young man who held the door open for me. When he replied "Yes 'mam" I thought what a sweet guy, instead of my previous reaction to being called mam which was always don't call me that it makes me feel old.

 

Don't we get enough of those here?

The long term sub who I am helping this semester is one of my former students and was born in 1997 which is when I was in college. I gotten old fast. Oh and my student teacher was born in 2000. I am getting even older faster.

When you point out in the Arena ****posting thread that a questionable graph that looks like planes flying into the World Trade Center was probably made by an intern that only knows of 9/11 through a history textbook.

 

And varifocals. Can NOT get used to them.

I can still read without glasses, so I've just moved my monitors a little closer and wear distance lenses for driving. Works for now.

When things really go south, I think I'm going to get separate reading & distance specs.

Obviously the reading glasses will be half moon so I can peer over them disdainfully at any modern nonsense.

 

I'd love being able to do the disdainful peering, but considering everything half a metre from my eyes is already a blur...
