So, I've noticed the new subgenre RPGs that are making the rounds - 'dirty' near-future hard sci-fi. We have Alien, Mothership and Hostile all making the rounds. On the very edges of it, Traveller: 2300 is making a resurgence as well. Not sure what sparked this....

A bunch of people all posting to the same Discord but insisting that, no, their prototype dirty near-future hard sci-fi RPG system was the best one.

What are good ways to find more TTRPGs, especially by category?

You know, I've always wanted to run or play Curse of Strahd (since gothic horror is up my alley) but I have never gotten the chance.

Ran the 3.5 edition Expedition to Castle Ravenloft mini-campaign. Strahd ended up watching with glee as my PCs destroyed Barovia themselves...

The oldest and stupidest reason in the world: they decided, after their initial clean-up of the town, that they were owed whatever the hell they wanted from the local population for saving their lives and as advanced payment for taking care of their other problems. They didn't take their transition from "you saved our lives" to "you're just the latest of our oppressors" kindly and decided killing a trio of NPCs to make their point wouldn't have consequences.

I'm not that kind of gamemaster [face_whistling]

Sounds like you were running a game with a bunch of murder hobos.

Eh, it happens. On the other hand, they can't complain about not having been warned - I always begin a campaign by telling my players they can do whatever the hell they want, but the world will respond to them :p

I'm one of those infamous GMs who killed a PC by having a frightened horse kick them right after they ran out of Fate points O:)

I have a buddy who always plays a tank.
I know he is going to swing his axe.
As GM, I have to decide what in the world he swings it at.
    He doesn't care.

He starts to itch if we get to about an hour of story or searching or whatnot without any combat...he wants to roll a fight.

Objection: my Necromancer reanimated a fellow player's character as a Ghast. Lots of things involved that character after they died :p
