on topic with that a bit, who else has noticed the new trend of over powering Palpatine into a god like status in the PT threads as of late?

it seems to be the go-to answer for everything, 'Palpatine willed/planned/foreseen it'

It's seriously bizarre.

I think that’s a consequence of TROS where he was turned into Dr Evil

 

people have argued for years about whether he was playing with Mace or whether he really lost. i keep saying he had no idea when Anakin would get there--if he'd get there.

Usually I kind of tune out during the third act, but it kept my attention on this viewing for once. I've really enjoyed this whole recent PT watch, taking them on their own merits and soaking up the era and characters

 

I’ve always had an uneasy relation with ROTS- on the one hand, I think it is easily the best Star Wars film from a technical perspective. Surely it will be regarded as the best movie of the series when all is said and done.

On the other hand… it’s the one I least enjoy watching of the 6 films. The moment Anakin has a nightmare till his conversion to Darth Vader is nerve wracking, even as I’ve seen the movie dozens of times.

Yeah they tend to make him an Immortal God of the Sith or Avatar of the Dark Side. The problem is ROTS showed he wasn’t, Windu won the duel initially, he was frightened of Yoda, “if so powerful you are? Why leave.” Palpatine then says “Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us!” Its obvious he’s not all powerful or all knowing.
I see Palpatine as one who bluffs, and projects great power, like a politician. Yes he is strong in the dark side, but not a god. I’m not keen on Force gods, its why I dislike Mortis. I prefer The Force without deities.

 

I like...parts of ROTS,
but it's the one I like the least of the PT

Acting wise I'd say it was the best,

ROTS could have been darker. Palpatine hammed it up too much.

 

Palpatine:

Palpatine: Wait kill me and I will possess you!

Palpatine: I absorb the power of Dyad to restore the one true emperor!

What the Farrik Palpatine?! You are just making up this Maclunkey as you go you old bombad, son of a Dathomir Witch! [I replaced expletives with these words]

 

This is absolutely the truth

I can see that, Palpatine hamming it up, for me gave the film a much needed oomph, everyone else was completely stoic...apart from Obi-Wan for the first half

Palpatine: kill me and my spirit will pass into you...

*few moments later*

Rey proceeds to kill Palpatine

....

Abrams: and that's a wrap everyone, we can all go home, thank God.



should have been the ending...Rey with Sith eyes and Palpatine's laugh....

My favorite part is Rey rising to voices of All the notable Jedi. Its moving, but the death of Ben Solo I cannot forgive.

If I remember right, every single Jedi apart from Ahsoka and someone else says her name

you know cuz the audience doesn't know her name yet, Finn yelling it every chance he got wasn't enough

 

It's a good movie, but it's kind of rushed in the last half. Also I would do certain things differently, like Padmé dying with no medical explanation and would add in more proto-Rebellion moments (like the deleted scene with the Delegation of 1000). I would be fine with a 3 or 4 hour extended edition à la Lord of the Rings.

 

Ahsoka says her name, Kanan too, Anakin, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Yoda, Windu, Qui-Gon, Luke, and etc.
