It's better than any of the Disney films, IMO. Heaps better.

I like RO, but it doesn't beat any of the 1-6 films for me.

I wonder why RO and Solo aren't included in the polls...

AOTC is certainly more original than TFA

whether it is better is a subjective opinion.

Not better than RO for me. But better than any of the sequel trilogy films.

More surprising is that ANH is the least voted, followed by RotJ. Apparently ESB is the dud of the OT. lol

The way I remember the mid-80's that was kind of true. ESB may have been the most polished and literate of the OT, but the ending was a downer and it just wasn't as much fun as the others.

Not me. I immediately loved ESB more than ANH, and that's saying something. It was just so intense and emotional. I think everyone in my family liked ESB more.

It's top of my list, but I do remember a few friends not liking it as much as the original. Sarge is right. The trilogy hadn't been completed so, while it was the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers, it was a bit depressing at the time.

Three years we had to wait. Three years! What a different age. Like something out of a dream...

I had to go with TPM as the least favorite, though it was really a very close toss-up between AOTC and TPM.

I find both to be very low points in the saga, and I think TPM is actually the better crafted film, but if I just look at the scenes I kind of enjoy from each of the two films, I SLIGHTLY prefer AOTC overall. And it feels more connected to the rest of the saga, whereas TPM feels more like a prologue. These days, though, I pretty much skip both, and prefer to stick with Episodes 3-9, plus RO and Solo.

TFA killed the overarching story, so it gets my vote.

I think TRoS is my least favorite now. That movie pretty much passes the point of no return as soon as Rose says “I can’t go on the adventure because Leia told me to stay here and do homework.”

TFA and Rogue One. Former is terribly uncreative and filled with bland characterization and acting. The latter is more technically proficient but for me tells an unnecessary story featuring forgettable characters.

AOTC and TROS. The former is a beautiful bore with questionable plot decisions and some atrocious acting. The latter is a half assed apology tour of the previous film.

The ST and Solo are in my "They're too bad to be canon" category.

TCW, OWK, and Rebels can get tossed out as well.

Mandalorian and BoBF too, why not.

Very late to this but thought I'd also chime in that this was also the impression I had based on my dad and friends' parents. I always heard them say ESB was ok but wasn't as good as Star Wars. It wasn't until after ROTJ and a few more years for casual people to reflect and realize how superior ESB was in relation to the trilogy.

ROTS. As much as I disliked the first 6+ hours of the prequels, all I really cared about was Obi-Wan vs. Vader. All would likely have been forgiven if they had gotten that right. I was hoping for one of the best duels in movie history, but got the boss level of the video game, instead.
Don't love the ST, but I can sit down and watch it with my kids and laugh at some of the silly stuff. I watch the prequels again, and they just put me in a bad mood.

To be fair, the PT and especially RotS, are the story of Anakin's fall to the dark side. I don't think you're supposed to be in a good mood by the end.

And IMO, nothing is more lame than the Obi-Wan and Vader duel in ANH.
