Mauna Loa woke up from its sleep in 2022 . The last eruption was in 1984. The Volcano happens to be the “World’s Largest Active Volcano on Earth. Please feel free to post videos and photos of any volcano in the world thread.

Model volcanos. Do you think they ever win science fairs?

When’s the last time that was impressive? 1883???

My little cousin whom I still think of as a five year old but apparently is now in his twenties, circling the Hawaiian islands as an engineer on a cruise ship, sent this photo of the eruption glow from his boat.

Maybe this one will finally blanket the earth and get rid of the human infestation.

It's really not the right type of eruption for that :p

Are there surprise volcanos? Like everything is normal in Ontario province, Canada. There is rumbling in the night and Toronto wakes up under a meter of ash.

There wouldn't be nowadays. Considerable seismic activity would accompany the rising of magma, whichever type of eruption we're talking about, and it would be registered and analysed some time (at least weeks) before the event. The exact eruption site, however, wouldn't be possible to narrow down, nor the exact beginning of the eruption.

I think Iceland has had the most recent volcano eruptions.

It hasn't. Guatemala, for an example, has an ongoing one (like a number of other volcanoes - one of them is active since before the American Declaration of Independence!), and there are constant starts and stops elsewhere, notably in Japan. And of course that's not counting what goes on undersea...

Is the theory that the big extinction event before the dinosaurs age was caused by massive volcanic activity. At this time the atmosphere was a different makeup than what we breathe today. The air could support the growth of giant bugs and huge lizards.

Besides massive volcanos a part of the earth in the north of what is today Russia became a molten sea of lava. Almost heat of the earth’s core boiled over to melt the mantle.

So imagine a lava see or lava Great Lake. This vented new gases into the atmosphere. That put an end to huge insects and ushered in the dinosaur age.

Really? Stromboli erupts every eight minutes. It just erupted three minutes ago.

There are a number of other volcanoes that are also constantly erupting. Including underwater.

There was a large eruption in Tonga a year ago too. Largest in about 100 years.
