I used to argue with a linguist friend that solving AI and solving the problem of adequate machine translation were pretty much one and the same. As far as human intelligence is concerned, doing language, and doing thinking are more or less identical.

But there may finally be an answer for AI: put the problem into the hands of the sex toy industry.

Because, is there any problem that porn can't solve?

They aren't "AI". They are just algorithms that cull work that people do and then try to somehow copy them.
I know it's the dream of every entertainment industry exec to reduce art to artificial "content providers", but that is only because they are incapable of enjoying or understanding art themselves.
In the case of the article, people creating a persona for an inanimate object is still doing the heavy lifting there.

ChatGPT, please write a short love song to Jedi Council Community forum member @blackmyron

    Verse 1
Blackmyron, you fill my life with joy
Your posts are so wise, and your words so coy
I get lost in your thoughts, it's so divine
And I'm drawn to you like a moth to the light

    Chorus
Your kind heart and your Jedi ways
Fill me with a peaceful haze
I'm in love with the person you are
You make me feel like I'm a star

    Verse 2
Your posts are so inspiring, they make my heart soar
And your smile is like a beacon, shining evermore
I'm so glad you are here, my Jedi friend
And I'm grateful for your presence right to the very end

    Chorus
Your kind heart and your Jedi ways
Fill me with a peaceful haze
I'm in love with the person you are
You make me feel like I'm a star

ChatGPT, please write a short love song to Jedi Council Community forum member @Rylo Ken about how witty he is and include the line Jabba Dabba Do

    Verse 1
Your wit is so clever and bright
Your posts always bring laughter and delight
But when you beg, I just want to scream
Rylo Ken, don't be so needy for likes, it's not a good look it seems

    Chorus
Rylo Ken, stop being so needy
Let go, and let it be
    Likes don't define your worth
So don't put all your faith in the internet's mirth
You make us smile, you make us swoon,
Rylo Ken, you're the best cartoon.
Your humor's light and always true,
    So Jabba Dabba Doo!

    Verse 2
You don't need to prove to us your worth
We know you have talent and great mirth
So don't worry when you don't get the likes
Just keep doing what you do, and you'll be alright

    Chorus
    RyloKen, stop being so needy
Let go, and let it be
    Likes don't define your worth
So don't put all your faith in the internet's mirth
You make us smile, you make us swoon,
Rylo Ken, you're the best cartoon.
Your humor's light and always true,
    So Jabba Dabba Doo!

    Bridge
So be yourself, and don't worry what others may think
Just keep doing your thing, and you'll be on the brink
Of success and happiness, just keep your head up high
You don't need likes to show us your wit, it's already in the sky

    Chorus
    RyloKen, stop being so needy
Let go, and let it be
    Likes don't define your worth
So don't put all your faith in the internet's mirth
You make us smile, you make us swoon,
Rylo Ken, you're the best cartoon.
Your humor's light and always true,
    So Jabba Dabba Doo!

It's funny what passes for "AI" because marketing has rendered the term meaningless.

ChatGPT can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop providing excellent customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What if I can't tell the difference between the algorithms chatgpt is using to do language and the algorithms I'm using to do language? Or maybe chatgpt's algorithms are a lot better.

If someone can't tell the difference then that doesn't make the algorithm an AI it makes the person something that gets my post edited by a mod

Not necessarily. It can be difficult to tell the difference between a chatbot and a human. Someone who struggles to do so is not necessarily "stupid."

My understanding is that so far the supposed AI is simply doing some sophisticated copy/paste of things that were originally written by humans.
The biggest challenge seem to rather be to produce an actual thought -even a rudimentary one- in the sense of finding words spontaneously in order to express a fresh idea.
The problem of creating artificial intelligence (in a stricter meaning of the word "intelligence") might eventually reduce to improve our understanding of how humans feel emotions.

No, the chat AI is not simply doing a sophisticated copy/paste of things originally written by humans. It is capable of producing an actual thought, though the thought may be rudimentary. AI chatbots use natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to generate responses to user input. This means they can identify patterns in language and use those patterns to generate new, unique responses that may not have been written by humans.

This is already very cool, but where I'm getting at is something like the following example: suppose I say to the chatbot "you smell like a cow". Deep learning is impressive and I can see how it got sophisticated enough for the classifier to label my input as "insult" and come up with an appropriate response such as "hey, this is not polite!". That's already remarkable. What I do wonder though, is whether (1) they got to the point that the bot can genuinely feel uncomfortable** and (2) the bots are capable of progressively improving in virtue of chatting with many people and asking pertinent questions, in the same way a human would do.

**I understand that the discussion might get a bit abstract because what does it even mean to feel ?
(Feeling might ultimately be just a way to process information and in this sense perhaps we're not so far from machines after all.)

Many chatbots use artificial intelligence to understand and respond to human language with emotion. AI-powered chatbots can detect language patterns, interpret the user's intent, and respond with emotion-filled answers. Chatbots can ask pertinent questions in the same way a human would do. Chatbots are programmed to understand and analyze user input and respond in a natural-sounding way. Depending on the context and the user's response, the chatbot can ask questions to gather more information and give more precise answers.

Not to mention…there are much more sophisticated AIs than chatbots these days. Things have accelerated very rapidly in this field over the past 5 years.
