John Powell - composer for Han Solo (w/ theme by John Williams)

Well, I'm a few days late, but here it is. Jown Powell confirmed to score the Solo movie

Some highlights: he's scored the Bourne movies, and now he's on board to please our ears while we watch Han become Han. Or however they worded that thing that confused everyone for a couple weeks

I've never seen a Bourne film, but I have seen some of the Dreamworks movies he worked on, though it's been several years, so I can't really share my opinion on him. Perhaps others here will have something to say!

 

The Bourne scores aren't at all indicative of the way he'll approach the Han Solo film. That's like saying the composer of Heartbeeps and and Munich will be writing the score for Episode VIII.

 

Nor did I imply they were. I'm just echoing the article's words that it's something he's known for

 

His work on both Shrek 1 and King Fu Panda are promising, the latter being possibly my favourite film score.

However, both of those were co-compositions, so it might not be indicative of his solo work.

John Powell is exactly the composer I would have picked to score the Han Solo movie, so naturally I was excited when they announced he would be the one scoring the music for this movie. I am a really big fan of his How to Train Your Dragon soundtracks. Although it was his soundtrack for Pan that convinced me that he should be the one to score the Han Solo movie. I'm not a fan of the movie Pan, but its score is very good.

 

I can't say I find Powell's resume very impressive personally, but I do absolutely love his HTTYD score. "Test Drive" is one of my favorite tracks of all-time. For that alone Mr. Powell will always get a pass from me. Good luck, sir.

 

This track convinced me too. Also made me want to see that movie...

 

11-4D I can't recommend How to Train Your Dragon enough. Great balance of action, humor and heart. Really sneaks up on you emotionally and goes to some surprising places for a PG-rated animated film. Many people feel the sequel equals or surpasses it, but I think it's a solid notch below. There's also an animated series, but I've never watched it.

 

Totally agree, Juke Skywalker about How to Train Your Dragon. Both of them are among my favorite animated films-which is saying something cos I'm not really a fan of animated films. They are my 4 year old son's favorites too.

 

I have to agree on How To Train Your Dragon. The scores are solid and enjoyable. Didn't Powell also do Kung-Fu Panda?

 

He did, alongside Hans Zimmer.

 

Pan's music is better than the movie so that's a plus. And X-Men: The Last Stand also had some decent musical stings that added to the drama (think of Xavier's final goodbyes). Really this scene right here is made better by the music



Borne music also really propels along with the action too.

 

He's an excellent composer, so I'm looking forward to it.

 

He's a decent composer, so I will give it a listen. But I can't say I am excited about it...

I need some hype for this film. This is a good start!

 

We all will. But we also have to slowly prepare ourselves for the day when he is no longer able to compose for Star Wars, or anything else for that matter...

 

Personally, I am amazed he is still doing it. He must really love his craft!
