It's been archive and I searched to see if it was revived since then, but I didn't find anything so here's to version 2.0 of the Random Picture thread.

 

Actually, hieroglyphs functioned as a proto alphabet/syllabary/logogram hybrid. The glyphs could mean the thing they showed literally or they could mean the first syllable or sound from the word they depicted. A foot could mean a literal foot, or act as a syllable in a longer word or just mean F, depending on context, which you would intuit based on what made the most sense in the sentence.
ETA: obviously, substitute the English word "foot" for whatever the Egyptian word for foot was for the analogy to work.

 

What kind of salad is that?
