Gaming Red Dead Redemption 2

Can't wait to play this in 5-7 years when the price drops low enough for me to purchase it.

 

True, although it does highlight just how dependent this gen consoles have been on games that install to the hard drive. If you had a PS3 this might not be new, as I know a few high profile PS3 games had hefty install times too. But that was usually the exception, not the rule. Especially to an Xbox 360 owner, as I only recall GTAV requiring an installation to hard drive on that system.

I love Rockstar as a studio, because their attention to detail is amazing. But I could happily sacrifice dynamic horse testicles if it saved a few gigs on my poor Playstation's hard drive. Save that kind of detail for the PC master race.

 

Lol like this is getting a PC port anytime in the next year.

Also, if I had to guess why it's so big, I'd figure it's a bunch of 4K assets most people won't actually see any benefits from that no one bothers to compress anymore because "1 TB is essentially infinite," same as always.

I’ll have to rush to finish the new Assassin’s Creed, then. And presumably, RDR2 will occupy all of my gaming time for the rest of the year.

GTA is great, but honestly, the Wild West is probably my favorite setting for a video game.

In the UK at least, the download date has been moved on the PS store to today, so people that pre-ordered have pre-installed it. 92.8 gigs.

 

I think this is going to be one of the greatest games of all time. So much to do. So much detail. I wish I could quit my job to play this game full time. Oh well. After work and weekends will have to do.

I don't think the reviews could be anything other than 9s and 10s.

 

The hype machine is strong and appears warranted.


Game play I've seen on the twitters is most impressive. I'll be picking my copy up in the morning but won't be able to play until either very late tomorrow night or Saturday at the earliest as I'm taking the kids to Alton Towers for the youngest munchkins birthday

The controls take a bit of getting used to, and manually looting corpses is a pain. But damn, it is a splendid-looking game. I’m still in the mountains, and hopefully on my next play session I’ll descend below the snow line.

 

I've been playing the game since it unlocked at midnight. In terms of production value, working those wage-slaves to the bone in the sweatshops for a hundred hours a week has clearly paid off. It's without a doubt one of the most ambitious, stunning looking open world games to date.

Unfortunately it also still has the usual problems I have with R* games, namely cumbersome controls and long periods of down time getting from point A to point B.

 

Interesting article on aiming tweaks in the game. It reminds me of certain PvP games in GTAV when the host an on online match deliberately turns off auto-aim. I hate that. I'm not a good shot without some assistance.

I’ve played about 4 hours of this and it is looking amazing on an oneX, the down side is I’m working all weekend witch means I’m probably not going to be playing it until Monday.
