Solo would be before Rebels chronologically. That's a lot of Star Wars to take in. I'd be afraid of overdosing.

yah while I do recommend watching TV stuff but not the entire series run, it starts to weigh WAYYY too heavily on the TV side that it becomes more about TV series marathons than movie series rewatches. But select episodes and arcs, maybe the length of about 2 movies or so, is the way to go.

Honestly, I’ve only been watching Rogue One, Solo, ANH and ESB lately. In that order.

Sorry, that's the chronological order I meant to say. It's the best stretch of Star Wars. There's almost nothing in these four movies that I itch to fast-forward. Perhaps only...the Kessel Run. Kind of overstays its welcome.

I've watched Rouge One and Star Wars back-to-back several times and it is pure joy. This is my preferred experience now. I hope if they do a marathon in the theaters before Episode IX, they consider including Rogue One this time.

I'm really enjoying Solo in the mix.

The Trilogy of - Solo - Rogue One - A New Hope - works really well.

EP 3 to Solo works much better than Ep3 to Rogue One.

For first time viewers I'd have to say release order, but now I've seen them all loads I'd go with story order.

    If we're talking first timers:

For a kid: TPM, AOTC, ROTS, SOLO, R1, ANH, ESB, ROTJ, TFA, TLJ
For an adult: ANH, ESB, ROTJ, R1, TPM, AOTC, ROTS, TFA, TLJ, SOLO

I think this is pretty much perfect for both demographics. I was a little kid when The Phantom Menace came out, and it was easy for me to understand that it was a prequel to the three movies I already knew, but the amount of prequels, sequels, and spin-offs we now have and the back-and-forth time jumping make anything close to release order way too unwieldy for kids.

For adults, an adjusted release order like you listed works fine, although I think shifting Rogue One to after RotS might work slightly better. TPM compliments the tone of RotJ pretty well, whereas RO builds off of the the darkness and gravitas of RotS, and the modern sensibilities in RO transitions well to TFA.

That makes sense too. My reasoning is that there are so many references in R1 to the OT, both visually and narrative that I thought an adult would appreciate seeing it right afterwards when it's very fresh in their mind. It could make it easier to understand why R1 is such a special film as opposed to other Hollywood franchise spinoffs. But yes, its overall tone is very dark and flows naturally from ROTS, while ROTJ is happy-go-lucky by its end. And it's gotta be the Yub Nub version. :p

    Here's what you do:

    Episodes 1-3
    Solo
    Rogue One
    Episodes 4-8

Then on the second viewing, do the same thing, only in reverse.

I'm kind of excited to be able to do all the Skywalker saga films, the standalone films, and the live-action TV series in linear chronological order. Just treat the whole Star Wars canon like binging a good TV show and space it out over a few days or weeks, then smash that "repeat" button as soon as it's over.

All Star Wars, all the time. It's the only way I want to live.

My preferred viewing order (also in my signature at the time of writing this):

    Original Trilogy
    Prequel Trilogy
    Sequel Trilogy
    Solo
    Rogue One

That way, you finish it where it all began; with Leia on the Tantive IV, escaping with the plans.

I recommend first watching "Starwars reenacted by bunnies" to have a back story for the Holiday Special. Otherwise you might not appreciate the latter fully.
