    Turning Point

There came a time when the Sith rose anew among the ranks of the Jedi, encouraged by the True Sith, hiding in the then-Unknown Regions. Dark Lord Exar Kun was defeated, but the Mandalorian clans continued his cause and, after decades consolidating, led an invasion back into the Republic.

The Jedi Council refused to assist - their task was the Sith, not the mundanity of genocide. The Revanchists disagreed, and their leader, the so-named messiah known as Revan, led the Jedi Crusaders against the Mandalorian’s. They became what they fought, mired in violence against a foe honour-bound to hold onto every micrometer of land to the last man.

    They fell.

Revan pursued the defeated clans into the Unknown Regions and returned as Darth Revan, Dark Lord of the Sith, his apprentices now his Darth’s, Darth Malak foremost among them. A Sith armada was assembled in an impossibly quick time, and the Jedi stepped up besides the Republic at last - and lost, repetitively. Within two years a third of the known galaxy had fallen to the Sith Empire, and the Jedi and Republic had no choice but to target Darth Revan himself. A plan was made, and it was a desperate one.

But it was their only one.

The Master, narrating events to the Protectors by way of the Holocron of Prophecy.

    Welcome to 3957 BBY.

The galaxy stands on the edge of defeat. In a mere two years, a Sith Empire has emerged from the Unknown Regions, having revitalised the second Empire created by Exar Kun. Darth Revan is a master warrior, tactician, strategist and political genius all in one. Powerful worlds historically loyal to the Republic such as Fondor and Corellia have joined his Empire, remembering that it was Revan who saved them from the Mandalorian horde, putting the Republic entirely on the defensive.

This is where you come in. A squad of Jedi, rogues and even Mandalorians is drawn together to do the impossible; to remove Darth Revan from the galactic playing board...

    Good luck.

Approved by some robe wearing, semi invisible GM, muttering something like "I am the Master"

    Name: Atin-Kot Kouwr
    Age: 35
    Species: Taung
    Gender: Male

Personal effects: Set of Beskar armor, similar style to what is considered Mandalorian armor of the period. Yellow bladed, detachable, double bladed lightsaber, neutral color robes of a type both the Jedi Order and the Sith favor, equipment belt with hidden encoded communicator, various blades,

Appearance: 2 meters tall, grey skin, yellow eyes, typical Taung features

Bio: Born on Mandalore, Atin-Kot was typical of his race until approximately the age of 10. He had grown up learning to hunt with the adults of the clan, learning the skills necessary to hunt any sort of game on the planet. He likewise had spent many hours learning all he could of all the species those of his clan had faced as they ventured out among the stars.

All of that changed shortly after his tenth birthday, when on a hunt he thought how the hunt would be simplified if the mythosaur they were after would appear so they could take it. Suddenly the creature they had been stalking reversed course and stepped out directly in front of them. Dismissing it as a fluke he continued taking part in the hunts for another year before it happened again, in the exact same way. At this point he realized it was he that had caused it to happen, which amazed, disgusted, and terrified him.

His amazement was due to the fact he had never heard a single story of his kind having any Force powers. The disgust came from the disgust his kind had for those that used the Force, and the actions that had driven them from their homeworld, which may also account for why there were no stories of his kind using the Force. He was terrified because he knew that as soon as he was discovered he would be cast out.

He began preparing for that day, ensuring he had all his gear and weapons prepared and hidden in a remote location far from his clan's homes. His fear came true two days past his thirteenth birthday and his advancement to adulthood. The clan chief himself and a handful of warriors physically manhandled him from the village and under the penalty of death exiled him from the tribe and swore to disseminate news of his exile and the reason why to all the clans.

He had managed to make it to his gear, retrieve it, and slip offplanet before they had cordoned the spaceport. He managed to work his way from planet to planet until he reached the planet of Taris. It took much convincing to get any Jedi there, from any rank to take the time to search him for any evidence of Force Powers, but eventually he found one of sufficient rank that believed and saw the Force ability in him to get him accepted to the Taris Academy.

He worked hard, his physical strength and hardiness served him in good stead as he naturally drifted toward the path of a Sentinel. As he graduated, and crafted his sabers, he finally realized he’d found a new clan, one that accepted him for what he was, not just a Taung, but a Jedi. Such belief was tarnished to a degree when the Mandalorian Wars began. He knew his people, and those who had flocked to their banners and become Mandalorians, were ravaging worlds and the Jedi, the clan he’d come to believe as his did nothing.

That is, until a pair of Jedi, Revan and Alek, managed to convince the Council to allow them to fight and end the war. He had gone with those who would be known to posterity as the Revanchrists and fought in the wars, his armored form, double bladed saber in hand came as a shock to those of his race that he fought. After the Battle of Dxun, and all he’d seen there, he could not continue, he could very well see where this was headed and so he returned to the Temple, and the Council’s judgement.

Following Malachor, and the return, then the departure of the Exile, the council realized they desperately needed information, needed to know what Revan and those who had followed him were doing. Called to the Council chambers, Atin-Kot was given sealed orders direct from the Council that he was to become an agent of the Council, and rejoin those he’d fought alongside in the Wars, reporting back to the Council as needed. He followed Revan and the others into the Unknown Regions, and rejoined their ranks. And returned with them, a ‘Sith’, to wage war against the Republic. But now he’s been called back, by the Council, to join a team, for a mission of the utmost importance, targeting Lord Revan himself.

    Name: Shysa Cadera
    Age: 15
    Species: Human
    Gender: Female
Personal effects: Her lightsaber, books on the force and healing.
    Appearance: [IMG]
Bio: Shysa was born on Mandalore, though days after her birth she was taken to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine to begin her life as a Jedi. Shysa does not know who her parents were or what place on Mandalore she comes from but she grew and enjoys her peaceful life, studying the people of Dantooine and it's animals, and took an interest in healing from some of the older Jedi Knights, proving to be somewhat more adept then the other younglings. She was too young to have much of an opinion on Revan or the other Knights that went with him, and now Shysa sometimes wonders if she is set to go down a similar path because of her Mandalorian Heritage. She knows little of her heritage, and well she wanted to know more at times; Shysa is learning to accept that the Jedi were her family, even when things got rough. She was recently accepted as a Jedi Padawan to Lonna Vash, and was nervous about meeting and training with a member of the Jedi Council.

Yula's family was in the performing arts when her Force skills were discovered, as she was a youngling. She was then sent to the Temple to train.

Now with the threat of Darth Revan, she welcomes the opportunity to lend her deductive and intuitive skills to the mission.

    Species: Human (Mandalorian)
    Gender: Male
Personal effects: Trained Assassin, Trained Soldier, Former Jedi Training
    Appearance:
Bio: Exiled from his home by his clan leader at the age of 13, Adenn had to leave his home of Mandalore after an incident he refuses to speak of happened. His parents were devastated by the loss of their only child. He joined the Republic Military, beginning his training at the age of 14, and devoted his entire life there for a few months before he was found by a Jedi Knight. The Knight realized he had a connection to the force, and sympathized with Adenn. He took him under his wing and trained him without approval from his superiors, and Adenn continued his military training while the Knight trained him.
However, this Knight left after five years of training for a mission assigned to him, and never returned.
Saddened, Adenn returned focusing completely on his military career. By the age of 25, war had changed him.
Returning to Coruscant, which he had called home for many years now, he couldn't return to his former life. After a brief year in Coruscant, he left to explore the galaxy for himself, bringing the one he loved with him.
After having several adventures in the outer rim, tragedy struck again. His beloved, whom he had now married, was killed by a gang of murderers. After doing unspeakable things to her, Adenn vowed to smite them down with all his fury.
He signed up with a gang of ruthless mercenaries to learn more about how their world worked, compared to a soldiers. He learnt a lot in the few years that he spent with the gang. Eventually, he found the murderers that had killed his wife, and slaughtered them, sending their body parts to their respective families.
A man who was once had ideals of the world, and goals to be had, was now a cold-blooded assassin who was driven by money and ghosts of the past. While he has some force training, it remains largely hidden as he rarely uses it due to general dislike of it.
Now he has accepted his greatest contract yet.
    To kill Darth Revan.

Names: Roan Cass & Greer Gali
    Ages: 26 & 28
    Species: Human
    Genders: Male and Female, respectively

    Personal effects:
Next to nothing. Practicing Jedi live a minimalistic life without material possessions.
Roan – set of emerald-bladed lightsabers (left hilt is slightly smaller than the right), pair of twin 6-inch vibroblades, standard Jedi robes
Greer – single blue-bladed lightsaber, standard Jedi robes, trinket held within a small pouch always kept on her person (gift from Roan when they were children, secret)

    Appearance:
Roan – average height/weight/build, brown hair – cropped, stormy grey eyes
Greer – average height and weight, toned build, blonde hair – short to mid-length, blue eyes

    Bio:
In terms of how things began for Roan and Greer, it could not have been more cliché. For how they continued, their story would become much more extraordinary...

Both raised in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant since childhood, as younglings they became fast friends. They remained so from then on out, during their individual apprenticeships to different Masters and while on joint missions as much as separate ones. Their teachers did recognize how well the two worked together, reasoning out issues and solving disagreements in a way one might finish the sentence of another. They had already begun to bond in a uniquely codependent way that fell on the blind eyes of their superiors, like a lot else did. Nothing was done to avoid the inevitable.

Regardless, they continued to be sent on assignments together and suffered through stretches of time apart, things always returning to ‘normal’ once they were reunited. Never skipping a beat.

Roan passed his trial to Knighthood less than a standard year after Greer, a triumphant period that was marred by their relationship becoming decidedly much more adult in nature. What had been set into motion long before they were old enough to recognize what it was that was happening, they had fallen for each other. Disciplined enough to know their feelings were forbidden, their love ran too deep to be ignored. They had always struggled against streaks of selfish behaviors where the other was concerned, but at this stage any attempts at controlling those traits were abandoned.

Thus began several years of hiding, arguments, break-ups and avoidance, need and reconciling, all while the structure of the Jedi as a whole began to fracture from the inside out. Whispers stirred amongst some of their peers, talk of secrets and corruption. Rather than hold fast to their faith, Roan and Greer ran with the notion that the Council was handling the galaxy's most pressing issues all wrong, namely the hunt for their former comrade – Revan.

It is a peculiar position then for them both, that they have been assigned as part of a group to locate the newly christened Dark Lord of the Sith and end his reign. Where once they had looked to him as a prime example of a Jedi and things beyond, now their obligations were so ingrained in their way of thinking that the pair set off as commanded without protest. The backdrop for their increasingly tumultuous relationship having become war and death, to which neither could run from.

    Bio:
Born on Glee Anselm it was an idyllic life. Raised by loving parents who were dedicated mates to one another, plenty of open ocean and tiny islands to play on, life couldn't have seemed more perfect as a child. Of course this covered the fact that his parents were poor, his freedom an illusion of currents he was never allowed to try. Not truly for reasons of safety, but of what they could afford. They swam so much not for the fun and freedom, but because they couldn't afford to buy a transport, but that all changed when his parents finished training programs and got jobs off world.

Coruscant was dry, metallic, harsh. But he tried to make it home, only here the dangers didn't respect emitting far reaching scents in the waters, they didn't respect distance and timidity. They sought power and were harsh task masters. There was little his parents could do, and little he could ask of them as one of six children.

It was by chance, or the Force, one day when he was discovered being beaten up by a group of punk kids tugging on his head tails to spin him around into position for a punch when a Jedi. . .a rather lost Jedi, stumbled upon the situation. When the Jedi had Force pushed a couple kids back it had been the strangest feeling, like the currents of home were back again. Now nobody spoke what he was used to except others of his kind, so he understood very little of what anybody were saying. Words like 'alien' 'freak' and 'tentacle sleemo' didn't really register yet, nor words like 'What's going on here?' or 'Jedi'. It was only when the aggressors fled that he did the same albeit opposite direction, and when the Jedi tried to stop him. . .by instinct and desperation he mimicked the Force Push he had felt. It hadn't done more than make the Jedi stumble, likely more in shock than anything and he was quickly caught by his head tails once more.

Only this time he wasn't beaten by his sensitive organs nor swung about. Taken in for weird medical care at a place that was far too clean and shiny, blood tests were done, and eventually his parents called in after after he showed the weird symbols he had had to memorize when they moved here, he thought he was in trouble for getting beaten up truth be told. It wasn't until his parents translated that the Jedi, a holy monk of the galaxy, saw potential in him and wanted to take him for training to their temple on Coruscant. It wasn't anything he really wanted, but when his parents had such watery hope in their eyes after hearing the free educational opportunities for their son and money he could send home if he got a job outside the Temple. Well, what was a young boy to do?

For the next seven months he had a tutor droid that lived inside his families two bedroom apartment and provided free language lessons for all the children in basic. Crash courses in galactic history, biology, economics, and logic were also included as his siblings were tested. In the end only one other had the gift, but all were given that short leg up into society. A couple Jedi tutors came by for his sister and him to teach them about the Jedi, the Sith of old, and the basic mysteries of the Force. At the end of that time, he and his sister left for the Temple to rarely ever see their family again. To learn to eschew attachments and love in any non-generalized way, and to be lights in the galaxy.

He found his path upon age with the Counselor's, meditating on the Force itself and the how's and why's ancient methods worked verses the newer norms. All that book learning made the war a hard thing, first with the Mandalorians, he had abstained and chose to follow the Council. Spending the war in intense study of combat aspects of the Force and unique ways to subdue enemies either organic or mechanical, preparing for what may never come. Or so he thought when Revan had won, much to his joy.

Only that joy turned to horror when he was finally called to fight, not the Mandalorians, but the hero, Revan. As the war raged, he found his private studies more and more needed. Sometimes as teacher at first, and then as a warrior. Now he was called up for something worse, worse than fighting Sith in a losing battle, worse than training children to twist the Force to fight for their lives. He was called to face his hero of yesteryear. And win.

    IC: Darth Revan
Aboard the Dark Protector, unknown location

They were two cruisers, six hundred metres of raw power hanging in the void. Originally a Republic design that brought Interdictor technology to the frontline, the Sith Empire had secured the few surviving prototypes and mass produced them, much as they had with the Centurion-class battlecruisers, which had similarly been a Republic design that came into action at the end of the Mandalorian Wars. The Star Forge, a Rakatan space station, had given Revan's Empire the ability to mass produce anything from ships to droids to armour to supplies, and was thus a natural advantage - but not one which the Dark Lord of the Sith was overly reliant upon.

But Revan paid no heed to the thought, nor the Leviathan, the flagship of his foremost apprentice, Darth Malak, hanging in space in the viewing port behind the gathering. The other Sith Lords were here, and discussion was afoot. Darth Voren was the only one of the various gathered today present in the flesh, while Darth's Glovoc, Bandon, and Sion were present as holograms, as with Malak also.

Glovoc was speaking. "Skirmishing at Iridonia continues to be inconclusive, my Lord. Their colonies periodically send support to the homeworld, and vice-versa. We have managed to defend against Republic forces launching from there attacking Ithor - largely due to the need to reinforce the Zabrak against us - but similarly our strike at Palanhi failed for the self-same reason; having to keep forces behind to hold our gains on Iridonia."

"The next wave of reinforcements will be sent there. Cease Coreward strikes in the interim and focus on holding what we have... there is no need to overstretch ourselves," Revan intoned behind his mask, before turning to Bandon. The bald man met his visor-stare with one of his own, so aggressive to be nearly baleful, but he reported and Revan let it pass.

"A string of victories by the Republic at Teyr, Drearia, Denon and Rhommamool has prevented us from advancing any further into the Southern Core - the surprise destruction of the fleet at Rodia has stiffened the enemy resistance, notwithstanding my victory at Yag'Dhul." Bandon didn't mention the success at Allanteen, which of course Revan had himself achieved, nor did he press too hard that the Jedi had somehow divined the location of a Star Forge fleet and annihilated it.

Revan turned to Malak, who had been busy clearing up threats to the rear. "Axxila has fallen."

The Dark Lord stared at Malak.

    The table grew silent.

"There were casualties, but entirely on the Republic side. The population has surrendered totally."

"What remains of it," said Voren with a degree of snark.

Malak cast an angry glare his way, and Revan held up a hand to forestall him. Notwithstanding that all the Sith present knew that Revan preferred to capture Republic assets rather than destroy them, they also knew that the Dark Lord understood the necessity of such things. He had not rebuked Malak for Telos, but similarly he had not prevented the Empire from knowing that Revan had not ordered such a bombardment. Instead, Revan turned to Voren. "And the Perlemian offensive?"

Voren inclined his head. "Stalled entirely, my Lord. The enemy routed us from Basilisk, and threw those assets at Chazwa and Corellia. The Corellian offensive was crushed, but of course the need to withhold ships from assisting Lord Bandon allowed the Republic more victories." He inclined his head to Bandon, who had been waiting for Voren to admit his failings.

Revan swept his gaze across the galactic map. The Basilisk offensive had been too early, more feint from Corellia than anything, and he had said as much, instead focusing on securing the territory acquired from his victories at Daalang, Gizer and Allanteen. Revan had prepared the Inner Rim personally, having weakened the Echani with his victories over them, so the defeat at Chazwa was frustrating... but it merely required Revan to come at the issue from another direction. He bypassed Sion, not needing an update on affairs at Malachor; the breaking of Jedi was proceeding apace. Instead he peered at a world which had been key before, and would be again.

    Taris.

That would be his next target.

As far as they were concerned, anyway.

    Sernpidal

The adventure opens at the starport located in Sernpidal City, capital city of the planet Sernpidal. The city, while not being a huge metropolis, is big enough to draw merchants and patrons from throughout the sector and hosts a wide variety of goods and services from around the galaxy. At the same time, Sernpidal City’s status as a port of call also draws in its share of criminals and wanderers that soil the city’s otherwise untarnished reputation. In the eyes of galactic politics, however, Sernpidal is a world under Sith control and considered an enemy of the Republic. This is where you come in, for they have arrived together on a mission for the Republic: find Commander Doel Scherp of the Sith Empire and acquire a code cylinder from him that holds the command codes for the sensor systems of Darth Revan’s flagship, the Dark Protector. Some of the Republic spies may know each other from previous assignments together, or this may be their first time working together.

At first glance, Sernpidal City appears much like many other cities in the Outer Rim Territories. Whether by accident or design, the city is divided into multiple districts that focus on what is located within: businesses, governmental buildings, and residences for those with similar incomes and lifestyles. The starport is located along the north edge of town next to the business district. Its white buildings gleam in the sunlight and advertise its presence to all ships entering the area. Bustling with activity, many businesses yearn to establish a storefront at the starport, where visitors from all over the galaxy may browse through and purchase their wares. But, the high prices the city requires keep many small businesses away. Those that set up shot offer an assortment of goods and services, ranging from restaurants and taverns to retailers that present locally-made merchandise and shops that rent speeders to visitors to the planet.

Despite its clean and organized appearance, the starport also attracts those people that are down on their luck, mostly foreigners that landed on the planet and did not have the funds or resources to leave. These vagrants impose their needs on new arrivals to scrape enough credits together to get their ships out of impound or buy passage home. Although the starport hosts many local businesses and large corporations from around the galaxy, many goods are not available there, forcing patrons to venture into the city to find what they need. Items such as weapons and droids can be procured within the city’s business district, which covers most of the northern half of the sprawl. Most of the goods that are found in the starport are also found here and can be purchased at much lower prices. While the central section of the district remains tidy and well-controlled, many small businesses that cater to those with lower incomes can be found on the eastern side. The residential areas are vastly different and, as such, divided geographically as well as financially. While the city’s rich citizens dwell in large estates on the west side and enjoy a lavish existence, the city’s poor and middle classes live on the east and south sides in moderate and sometimes squalor conditions. Most of the city’s beggars can be found wandering the streets or hiding in alleyways and abandoned buildings.

Sernpidal City’s government center lies at the very center of the city, where all administrative decisions for the city and the planet take place. Nicknamed “The Spires”, the tall, glass-paneled buildings stretch into the sky and can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city. They also stand as a reminder of the administration’s goal to make life better for all of its citizens, although the existing bureaucracy sometimes falls short with its corruption and in-fighting. The Spires also serves as the city’s headquarters for law enforcement and embassies for the other planets in the sector.

Sounds of normal activity echo into the docking bay. As you venture into the starport, people from at least a dozen different races wander to the brightly-lit stores, restaurants and booths that take up the entire concourse wall opposite the receiving area. Cries from merchants advertising their goods blend with the myriad of conversations taking place in different languages, creating a rumble of almost incoherent sound. Occasionally, a pair of Sernpidal Enforcers wanders through the crowd, making sure everyone keeps the peace.

The team meets here and now, for the first time, each having made their way to Sernpidal using coordinates passed to them by Republic Intelligence - for a world deep in the ostensible Unknown Regions.

    Sernpidal, Outer Rim

Shysa wasn't sure why she was chosen in the first place, she hadn't even met her new Jedi Master before before put on a ship here and was now in awe of the city landscape of so many different people as she wandered around. She realised she was short enough that people could mistake her age for someone younger, and everytime Shysa tried to look inside a Cantina she was blocked with a smile and a gentle shove.

It was so different from Dantooine.

Shysa glanced up and noticed a large screen that was showing the latest swoop race and stopped to watch with a dozen other people. She was memorised by the face pacing swoop racers, hand dropping to her lightsaber as she was shoved forwards a little as more people crowded in to watch until Shysa was at the front of the crowd. You're supposed to be meeting the others. Shysa thought, but she didn't even now where they were.

Yula was impressed by the hustle and bustle of Sernpidal City. It was prosperous-appearing, not down-in-the-heels, thankfully, which being located in the Outer Rim was always a possibility.

She felt a knot of anticipation stirring, as the time for meeting the others on this mission and getting briefed drew closer.

What would the details involve? Would they get along, were some of the things Yula wondered.

    IC Atin-Kot
    Arrival Sernpidal

As, technically, one of Lord Revan's Sith Atin-Kot could have arrived in his own ship, in full cloth of the Sith Lords, and had the run of the city. However, given the circumstances, he had chosen to land his ship on a distant world along the same hyper lane, disappear into its star port and then return to the port, boarding a commercial vessel bound to Sernpidal, hood up concealing his features.

Debarking with the other passengers it was a simple wave of his hand and he passed through Customs as if he had never been there at all. Navigating the crowds and occasional patrols by security he made his way through the brightly lit, garishly lit if he were honest, businesses and out into the city itself. Out here it was no less garish or loud and he kept his hood up, knowing his kind were still disliked intently due to the not too distant war.

'It will be interesting to see what the others make of me. I'd assume the team leader, at least, is aware of my deeper orders.' he thought. Even in his thoughts there was a hissing sound to his speech, one he didn't even notice. He looked around and could sense other Force Sensitives nearby but he couldn't tell if they were others of the team or random, young, Sith who had struck out to make their own way.

'Where is the rendezvous?' his thoughts continued, his orders only having said to meet up with the others of the team here and they would be told further what was needed on this planet. Therefore he took up station in a shadow by the entrance to the spaceport and waited, keeping an eye out for any that seemed to have similar confusion to he, or that he may vaguely recognize from years before, the last time he had been at the Temple.

    Arrival Sernpidal

Having taken a smugglers services to transport him to a hidden port where he was in a handoff to another smuggler as part of his crew for travel he had actually made good time, getting here a day ahead if he remembered the statement correctly. Having ditched everything but a string of coordinates he had made sure nothing was too visible.

In the end he ended up here on this backwater Sith or Revanite or whatever you wanted to call these new government owned worlds. The city wasn't too bad, but it was. . .quaint, at least when he compared it to his own Coruscant. Due to his method of travel and cover docs he was loitering around the local pubs and spaceport waiting for familiar faces or someone to call him out. So far no one had.

As part of that cover he had a small case with all his belongings, including his lightsaber safely tucked inside a hidden compartment under a few garments, which he kept firmly tucked under one arm as he held an audio comm to his hear listening to a local music station. Honestly he had no idea what he was listening to, but the beat was catchy and it helped to distract his nerves as he wandered the spaceport bopping slightly to the music. Making a little bit of a spectacle of himself as a way to be seen in the throng hopefully by the others.

IC: Roan Cass & Greer Gali
    Capital spaceport, Sernpidal

“Can you believe we are doing this?”

A woman of fair skin and hair, altogether pleasant looking though at the same time unremarkable, was walking swiftly beside a man, leaning in close to whisper her question. Both were dressed in attire fit for wandering travelers of mediocre means but judging by their quick gait, they clearly had some place of importance to be. Lugging one piece of luggage each, neither looked anywhere else but straight ahead as they cautiously navigated the crowds of the bustling spaceport.

“Honestly?” the man asked, a bit louder to be heard over the loud clangs and sizzles of a food stall they were currently passing.

“Honestly,” the woman came back immediately. Her stomach growled as she breathed in the delicious scents of the meals being prepared. She ignored it.

“No. No I can’t believe we are doing this.”

Roan Cass, Jedi Knight, bit his lip from elaborating further. This assignment was not one he agreed with entirely and his companion beside him knew that already. He understood its endgame and he understood the reasoning behind the Council’s decision, but the focus of the mission made him simultaneously frustrated and prone to anger. The quest they had been sent on, why they were currently stalking through the main port in Sernpidal’s capital, was to hunt down the man known as Revan and cease his Sith reign by any means necessary. But what then, when you knew this Dark Lord as the Jedi he was before all of this?

    What then?

Revan had been his and Greer’s colleague, mentor and acquaintance. They had not known him intimately, but they had learned enough to view him as the ideal mold a Jedi should be cut from. His strength in the Force could not be denied either and Roan had always believed he could sense jealousy and envy in the undercurrents of the Masters that ranked above. He was indeed more powerful, many of his fellow Jedi saw it as Roan did. For all he knew, the Council had been the ones to leave him susceptible to the path he now walked by attempting to control him. Perhaps they had been the ones to push him towards the temptations of the dark side.

Now Dark Lord of the Sith, Revan sewed havoc at large and dominated the galaxy with his army of followers. It was incredibly difficult to assume the man had simply chosen to become everything he had previously stood against, pressing his will on worlds he had once sworn to protect…

Greer Gali sensed Roan’s growing anxiety in the Force and finally turned her head to glance at him. Also a Knight, the two were so finely tuned to the other in many ways that it did not take much to see how twisted up he was over their new mission. But she sympathized. She was, too.

They slowed their pace significantly and she resisted the impulse to offer a reassuring touch. They never showed affection publicly, they would never risk being seen. “Neither can I,” she agreed with a tinge of sadness for more than one reason. “But we are under orders from the Council directly. We need to push our reservations and personal feelings aside-”

“Oh, that I am quite familiar with how to do,” Roan snapped, backpedaling from his harshness without missing a beat. “I’m sorry, that was uncalled for.”

Abruptly grabbing her hand he took a sharp left and moved off to the side by a large window panel, out of the way of the steadily moving foot traffic. Roan faced Greer, placing his hands on her shoulders and looking intently into her eyes. “I feel as though we are missing something, a few things, even…”

“I know you do, love. And you know that we are in agreement that things are not what they seem. We’ve spoken at length on it, but it does not negate our obligations to the Order.” Greer’s nose crinkled despite her words, an increasingly more often show of displeasure in the direction their way of life was bending. She took a deep, measured breath and placed her hands over Roan’s, glancing around quickly to look for any prying stares.

“We’re a long way from the Temple, you know,” he teased, allowing a laugh under his breath as he watched her.

Greer smiled wistfully and closed her eyes, pressing her cheek into one of his hands and nuzzling it softly. “We’re never far enough.” Her lips brushed his skin as she spoke and for a moment they were both teetering on an edge they balanced upon every minute of every day. It was precarious, fraught with danger, and the slightest misstep would throw them off the far side and into the chaos of passion and desire. And it was becoming harder and harder to resist.

In the passing of a second, the moment there and gone, they both registered what had been about to happen and pulled away. Greer stepped back enough to leave Roan’s grasp and he in turn segued seamlessly into checking his chrono and adjusting the vest he wore. “So, where do you think the rest of them are?”

“I’m more curious to see who they are.” Greer craned her neck and searched the many faces crossing the floor before her. She had no idea what she was looking for, but anything to keep her focus off Roan right now, she would take.

So deep into their own thoughts were the pair that they were not reaching out with their feelings, seeing if they could pick up any familiarity amongst the crowds as they should be. Instead, they were silently reading the other, concern and many unsaid things that could never be said clouding all else.

This… is going to be bad, they were both thinking, though maybe not in the exact same way.

    Sernipidal

Adenn had drifted from planet to planet all his life that a city like this had no chance to impress him. When he was much younger, a place like this would have drawn him in, and kept him for days. That was a long time ago. Adenn didn't have time for such luxuries, if you could even call this place a luxury. He was here for work.

With a grim look on his face he began to wander. There were others. He needed to meet up with them. He was exhausted, as always, but continued to drift through the streets, as he had done for years.

Their datapad's received an update to the message they had received earlier; not a new message, but a mere update, concealed in a package to update the software of their datapad. It was small enough to bypass most notice, even in the Sith Empire's heavily-monitored society; a society that had only emerged in the last three years, but many worlds were agreeing to out of sheer fear of what had come before; Mandalorian hordes. The updated message?

Simple coordinates to a location in the nearby street, and a code for the door.

A bar, the Lazy Duckling, which had been booked for a special occasion, and as such was deserted; the bar had been told that staff would be supplied by the organisers, so had given everyone a day-off and handed the codes for access to the facilities to the Intelligence officer; it was nothing special, but there was food in the fridge, drink on tap, and a tab that was open.

Republic Intelligence had supplied to them information indicating that a high-ranking Sith officer is taking shore leave on Sernpidal, and the team would inevitably need to find him and get the codes that will allow the Republic to bypass the Sith fleet’s sensors. The only lead they received with their intel was the name of the city in which they landed, which does not help much at this point.

But for now, they had the rendezvous, and the meeting.

    Who would arrive first?

    Who would go in first?

Who would inevitably imbibe of the alcohol?

    Big questions.

    Small answers.

His eyes flickered down to the datapad once more. Here he was, as the coordinates had guided him. He punched a code into a keypad, and the door to the Lazy Duckling opened.

Empty. Adenn was the first. He looked to his datapad once again to be sure this was the place. It should be, for the code for the door had worked. He walked behind the bar and poured himself a drink. Onward towards the counter he went. The bar stool squeaked, turning slightly as he sat. He drank, and sighed. Once again he made the journey behind the bar to pour the needed drink, and returned to his seat.

Would this be his last contract? Likely so.

But for now, he waited. The others would be here soon, and then it would begin.

The Lazy Duckling? What an interesting name for an establishment! She went to the coordinates and took a position in an innocuous but line-of-sight angle, not wanting to be the first to arrive... Yet it wouldn't do to loiter, either, drawing unwanted attention. She took note of a human who entered the bar and decided to give it about another 10 minutes or so before entering herself.

IC: Roan Cass & Greer Gali
    Sernpidal

Roan and Greer had moved back into the busy crowds, realigned and refocused on locating the rest of their group. Neither were given names nor details on who their would-be partners were, not even how many, and the task of finding them was made all the more difficult as they were forced to remain guarded in such hostile territory.

The long reach of Revan’s Sith was apparent all around them, an oppressive darkness lingering over Sernpidal’s citizens and made heavier by the troopers that were enforcing control.

Greer could not hide a look of disgust as they passed one such guard, dragging a terrified young man no more than mid-teens, away by the arm.

“Keep calm,” Roan chided at her side, feeling the uptick in her emotions. Greer only shook her head as she removed her eyes from the scene with effort.

“Wasn’t I just telling you to be calm?” A soft smile followed, but both Jedi Knights grew more somber the more time spent here. It was one thing to hear of Sith dominance and the atrocities committed in their name, and something else entirely to be right in the thick of it.

A vibrating buzz began repeating from the front pocket of Greer’s jacket and they both stopped as she quickly worked to bring it into view. It was a ping for a system update, but considering their current situation it was clear that it was part of a layered encryption, so she allowed the file to load. Once it finished seconds later, they saw what had been hiding within the coded text – coordinates and a string of random characters, presumably for meeting the rest of the team at last.

Without a word they set off, exiting the spaceport and traveling along a street that ran parallel to the massive transportation hub. As they closed in on their destination, they stopped across the way from the main entrance to the Lazy Duckling, observing their surroundings before proceeding. Under the guise of checking their luggage, the pair put their senses on full alert for any threats lurking about. Again, the dark side muddled everything.

“Only frightened and tired beings, going about their day,” Greer noted in a whisper, appearing to be rummaging through her meager belongings. “I don’t feel much in the way of hostility in the direction of the bar…”

“Me neither,” Roan agreed, digging through his own bag as his fingers brushed by the double-lined case that contained his lightsaber hilts, designed to bypass even the most thorough of scans and inspections. “I think we’re good.”

“What about inside? There’s too much going on out here for me to pinpoint anyone already there…”

“Wait until we get closer, we’ll have a better shot. Let’s go, but be mindful…”

Greer met his eyes and she nodded, casting out a brush of concern in the Force. He would easily interpret it as something akin to ‘be careful’, which she knew he would be. He simply nodded back at her in return.

Together they gathered themselves and walked further down their side of the street, crossing at an intersection a few blocks away. Circling back, though having made a maze of the return trip - utilizing alleys and a few boutique stalls to discourage any watchful or curious eyes - they finally came up to the bar entrance from the opposite direction. The Knights paused, reaching past the barrier in tandem to gain a better understanding of what awaited them inside.

Roan held up a finger in front of Greer, “one,” and she did the same to him. Because danger was not included in the initial scan, they didn’t stop the other from pushing on.

He entered the code they had received in the keypad next to the sealed door. It blinked green and then slid open with a click to admit them, to which they stepped inside. Once the door closed behind them, their eyes adjusted quickly to the scene and were already turned in the direction of whom they had previously felt.

A male, rugged in looks, perhaps worn and exhausted in mentality, sat at the bar with a drink in hand. They couldn’t be sure yet that this was in fact the meet-up they were hoping for, so from the start they knew they had to play aloof.

Greer was the first to walk over to him, taking the lead as she often did. It provided somewhat of a challenging push and pull between herself and Roan, one that he found frustrating more than not. Still, he dutifully followed on her heels and took position on the opposite side of the stranger than she was when she came to a stop.

“Hello,” she said with a friendly bow of her head. “What brings you to the Duckling? Because we all know it can’t be the food…” A guess as to the cuisine, but judging by the bland and basic interior of the place, she wasn’t far off.

Mustering up courage, Yula moved to the bar entrance and looked around. No one seemed to be watching in particular. She entered the code she'd been provided and entered. She saw a trio of beings at the bar, but otherwise the place was deserted. Were these the members of her team or citizens of Sernpidal?

She mused aloud, "Wonder if there's anything worth eating in here?" She hadn't eaten since breakfast.

    Waiting on Sernpidal

It was with a little bit of disappointment that his bopping through the hustle and bustle had left him no closer to finding the others. Although one had to admit it had given him a better feel for the place. The guards were impressive in catching his one attempted pick-pocket. Which seemed to indicate that although these were ruthless Sith, they at least had a sense of law and order. Although he suspected it was the letter and not the spirit of any laws that would be upheld. Not much better than a droid run society in that case, which was saying not good at all really. The presence of smugglers and some riff-raff was actually the only truly good sign he saw for this world, for the sake of diversity and biology. Which should mean if they were able to turn the tide and win, pull off this ridiculous mission, they could reabsorb this world easily back into the Republic.

When his pad vibrated with an alert he was surprised. He thought he had removed that program to leave no trace incase he was picked up. Must of had the software embedded further then his biology background could ferret out.

Following the directions he took it easy getting to the location and a little late. Entering the code he walked into the The Lazy Duckling, as far as the inside went it looked like they had the hobo, starcrossed duo, and token Twi'lek set up inside. "May the Force be with you." he calmly stated to the group as he made his way to the bar, looking for seltzer water. If he was right with the coded entry this should just be the group. Afterall there didn't seem to be a bar keep or staff insight.

    IC Atin-Kot
    Sernpidal

Leaning against the wall by the exit to the starport, Atin-Kot felt the buzz of his datapad announcing a message. As he was away from the Sith Lords, he was certain it was not one of them, aside from the fact that he knew that they would and did prefer to communicate mind to mind. Shifting his eyes, without moving his head, he tried to note anyone who reacted at the same moment he felt the buzz, certain that at least a few of them would be the others involved in this plan.

He stood up from the wall, ignoring the datapad for the moment so he wouldn’t be recognised right away, his hood still concealing his features. Threading his way through the crowd, he moved out from the busier sections around the starport and into more calm and peaceful areas. Once a safe distance had been reached he let his senses questing out to determine if there was anyone in the immediate area that would be watching before pulling the datapad out and reading what had been sent and attached to the message.

‘Hmmmm, this will be…..interesting for me. I have no doubt who we are to obtain the codes from would know me, or at least of me. That means I have to play more of a support role until the plan moves forward.’ he thought. Plugging the coordinates into the datapad, he let the map function display, then slaved it to his wrist pad, and placed it back in it’s pockets among the folds of his robes.

He walked along the streets, keeping to himself, doing his best to keep from appearing important enough or vulnerable enough for anyone to approach. Following the directions that would pop up on his wrist pad he soon made his way to the bar district. Once there he passed by the destination point, noting the name and location of the place, then turned down an alley on the opposite side of the street. Out of sight, he leapt up the side of the building there, using his claws to make shallow handholds as he went. Up among the industrial pipes and machines he kept low until he made it to the section of building that faced the Lazy Duckling.

He crouched, keeping behind the sign for the bar he was above, and waited, observing, seeing who else approached. The information the datapad had given said the Lazy Duckling was closed and only a private party was taking place, which meant the only other’s that would approach would be the others of the party, and he preferred to get a first impression, from a distance, before he too entered. He calmed himself as he waited, wanting to put forth as little presence in the Force as possible so the others, or any other Force User that happened by wouldn’t suspect that he was there, waiting and observing.

His patience paid off when a human male approached the bar, wearing gear similar to a Mandalorian, ‘Hmmm, one of those, wonder if he knows where that design comes from. Guessing a bounty hunter.’ He stayed silent while he watched the man check his pad then enter the code and walk in to the bar. ‘One down, who knows how many to go.’

Settling back, his wait was not much longer when he saw motion on the street, someone seeming to have had the same idea he had. Turning only his eyes, in his hood, he observed the new arrival. She’d hidden herself as well as one could on the street. ‘A Twi’lek, and a Knight, well trained.’

Before he could decide whether to have some fun and surprise the Twi’lek, two more beings appeared, coming from the opposite direction of the spaceport. ‘Good tradecraft.’ he thought as he watched them work. There was something there, something he couldn’t put a claw on, that seemed to be there between the two of them, perhaps they’d worked very closely together for a while, perhaps more, but that was for later. They entered the bar and the door closed behind them.

He continued to consider whether he should startle to Twi’lek when his musings were interrupted by her own actions. She’d left her concealment and approached the bar as well, disappearing inside. ‘OK, not sure why but this group still seems incomplete even beyond just me missing, wonder what the others may be, who they are.’

The sun hadn't moved much further along in the sky when another body approached the bar, a Nautolan, one he'd noticed trying to make himself noticed by others at the spaceport. He appeared more composed now so the earlier activity had been the others attempts to scope out both who else was part of the team as well as the security here on planet. They slipped inside and Atin-Kot sighed, the team seemed almost complete and whether others would arrive or not he should probably make his presence known.

Having compiled a little data already on each of the team he'd seen enter he tucked the pad under the voluminous robe, the typical red and white striped robe of the natives here, and then inside his usual cloak. He wrapped himself tight, then leapt to the street below, the striped robe billowing as he descended. Landing, light footed, he made his way to the entrance to the bar, standing to the side before entering the code. He knew the appearance of one of his kind, especially given the circumstances could end with blasters or sabers being drawn as there was only one like him, and was known to be with Revan.

As the door cycled open he slipped through, the native robe billowing then billowing more as he slipped from it, his neutral shaded robe blending in to the shadows. "The fallen paladin, the rogue, the lovers, and the cleric." Hissed from the shadows, "Guess that puts me in the sorcerer role. Doubt I need give my name, at least for the force users present, but know I was called here, more to me than you know."

He stepped from the shadows, a tall, gaunt looking creature, yellow eyes studying each as he appeared from the shadows.

They were a motley bunch, and the last one to join them definitely finalised that.

"The fallen paladin, the rogue, the lovers, and the cleric." Hissed from the shadows, "Guess that puts me in the sorcerer role. Doubt I need give my name, at least for the force users present, but know I was called here, more to me than you know."

"Very funny," Greer said, trying not to tense, but conscious that this was all very unsubtle, and as far as he was aware, none of them had been given a code phrase to connect the dots. After the last person arrived, it was then that there was a tweedle from behind the bar, and it opened to allow a T3-series utility droid to appear.

    T3-3TH

The little droid was a common sight nowadays, and they were highly subject to customisation, which of course made them a market favourite. Greer watched it, managing not to panic and train a blaster on the little droid. It almost immediately projected a hologram into the space between them all.

It was Bastila Shan, the Jedi tasked with coordinating the mission - and also known to many as one of the few who could use the art of battle meditation. With it, the Republic had managed to score some key victories and prevent the Sith Empire from securing the Southern Core, which would have cut them off from a whole quadrant of space.

    Welcome team.

This droid is tasked with relaying my message when you have joined the rendezvous, and only when, so that you all know that everyone present
should be present. It carries with it a map to the Estate of Doel Scherp, who has the codes we require to access the Sith fleet. While we can often locate the flagship of Revan, we cannot with sufficient accuracy to launch an assault, especially as we are usually outnumbered and outgunned. With these codes we will be able to sneak a team aboard the ship, but we will have casualties in doing so; speed, and your team cohesion, is necessary, which I appreciate is going to be difficult to achieve when most of you have only just met. But for the sake of the Republic, you must work together to locate the code cylinder that will have what we need. Scherp may keep it on himself, or in his study, which we know he frequents.

Commander Scherp is a Sith officer that has taken advantage of his position and status by living a luxurious lifestyle. Through underhanded politics and well-placed bribes, he has elevated himself to his current position within the Sith fleet and puts forth great effort to keep from losing it. He also takes great pride in his reputation as a sharpshooter and works hard to maintain it. Despite his skill in firearms, Scherp is a bit of a coward, not willing to take any risks when obviously outnumbered; as such, you will need to ambush him in a manner which conceals your numbers.

That is all we know of him. He was barely a private in the Republic Navy, and now he is a Commander because of his actions since; I can only hope that gives you stock of the man. Time is not on your side; Sernpidal is far behind the frontlines but has ample forces to deal with unrest. It would need to be quite a large effort to force Scherp to leave his Estate to intervene with the Sith Troopers he has been allocated, and even then he may just flee the planet. Stealth remains our best weapon, but I leave it to you all to make a decision that works best to you skills.

May the Force be with you.

Layered within that message was all manner of nuance; that Bastila knew that the team would be paranoid of the others, expecting treachery, which she had sought to dispel; that the team had many differing strengths, and they knew not how best to use them; that Sernpidal itself was a relative Unknown, being a world, yes, in the Unknown Regions - the furthest north the Republic was aware the Sith Empire stretched.

But it was also bound with hope, and trust.

As was befitting a Jedi-led mission.

Roan looked to Greer, and shrugged. "I may as well start. We're Roan Cass and Greer Gali; Jedi Knights." He peered around. "Some of you I might recognise from the Temple, others clearly not." There were Force sensitives here, but the Order numbered in the tens of thousands - or, rather, it had, and nobody knew every Jedi. Not even the vaunted Council sitting in the Temple tower on Coruscant. "But we're here, and Master Shan has the essence of what we need to do."

"Let's get the awkward introductions out of the way so we can get on with this." He folded his arms across his chest, conscious that the sooner they got on with this, the sooner they could go after Revan.
