ST POLL: Rate/Rank/Compare The ST Films

This is a really tough call. I'll have to think about it.

 

I prefer to phrase it as: I dislike TROS more than I dislike TLJ.

Pretty sure this thread was not only created earlier but also locked for a reason.

 

I liked TROS more, because it felt like a more fun adventure. I may grow to appreciate TLJ and its place in the saga, and there is no denying that it is a very well made picture, but the story and characterisation makes me want to weep with frustration*

TROS isn't perfect, but it makes some effort to provide context and purpose to some of Rian's decisions in a way that is ultimately satisfying (sort of)

* disclaimer: not really, this is hyperbole for effect

 

TLJ, I think.

I'm someone who adores atmosphere and artistry in films, so I reckon my preference comes from a mainly stylistic POV. I feel TLJ has so much more space and thought put into its visual presentation, while TROS is a choppy, hectic hot mess.

I preferred the writing in TROS. The characterisation seemed a lot more effortless: no awkward humour and a real synergy between our heroes. But yeah, TLJ just pips it to the post for being an absolutely beautiful film. I definitely think I'm more likely to re-watch TLJ than TROS, just because watching TROS would be so much effort.

 

TROS and it's not close.

 

I chose all equal, because I gave them all a 10/10.

 

1) TLJ (10/10)
2) TROS (8.5/10)
3) TFA (8/10)

TROS would have been higher if Rey and Ben had gotten their happy ending together.

 

ROS 8 out of 10.
TFA 8 out of 10.

1) TFA 7/10. i have my problems with it, namely the mystery box stuff, but i can rewatch it and enjoy it for the most part.
2) ROS 4/10. messy and i don't think i'll be watching it again.
3) TLJ 3/10. i haven't watched this since the one time during its release and most likely will not watch it again.

 

I liked Force Awakens except it was so derivative.
ROS was more what I was hoping from Force Awakens, even though it was clearly not perfect.
Can't stand TLJ and will only watch again if my kids make me. One of IMO the most disappointing sequels I've ever seen, along with Phantom Menace and Matrix 2 & 3.

 

TFA : 9/10
TROS : 8.5/10

TLJ : 5/10

 

Episode 7 and episode 9 were more of remake movie, thanks to the J.J. Abrams, a guy i hope never heard his name ever mention with Star Wars universe.
Tho episode 8 was far from great i vote for him, just the other 2 are that bad.

TFA

The only one where I genuinely had fun watching it and felt optimistic at the end that this new trilogy can be pretty good. Despite the fact that in the back of my head, my brain was screaming the whole time that its just ANH remake and their abusing my nostalgia for the OT. But I gave them the benefit of doubt and really wanted to like this new "trilogy".

After both TLJ and TROS, I felt devastated and depressed.

 

TLJ- 5/10 Mostly because of the Crait Luke scene.

TFA- 2/10 Competent film but so creatively bankrupt, it hurts.

TROS- 1/10 Liked the Sith cult idea. Really disliked this film. Pacing was incredibly off and I got bored of the film by Pasanna.

 

I have to say TFA.

Rank and points:
TFA, 6/10 (despite this being a poor remake of ANH. Ford saved it... mostly)
TROS, 5/10 (I'm being generous for the time being. MacGuffins, no stakes and gimmicks. I expect it'll end up 3/10 on repeated viewings)
TLJ, 1/10 (I really, really dislike that movie)

 

TRoS - Not in love with it by any means, but I'll rewatch on occasion, or use it as background while working on something tedious
TFA - Happened; if I want to rewatch it, I'll watch ANH, the original is better
TLJ - Go home, movie, you're drunk
