"Graham's getting lonely and it needs to be funnier up here. I'll think I'll invite one of the Pythons. I wonder what John Cleese is like these days... Oh, oh no. I think I'll just invite the best Python instead."

    RIP

Edit: And it's nowhere near as well known, but my favorite sketch he starred in (and maybe period):

When Terry Jones directed Wind in the Willows, Disney insisted that the name be changed for American audiences, as they feared it was too sexual. They changed the title to Mr Toad's Wild Ride.

He never explained the problem with that to Disney, and on a visit to America, the only theater he could find it being played in was a small one that displayed pornos.

    Man was a legend.

He was quite the proficient historian too. I still own the companion book to the BBC series he did about European civilisation pre-Roman Empire, where he makes a compelling argument that the "Barbarians" were far less barbaric than you'd be led to believe.

Some of the Celtic tribes had semi-democracy!

I didn't realize Jones did historical stuff himself though. Interesting.

One of the best things I learned from that book when I first got it was when he put paid to the claim that the Romans brought roads to Britain, as there were archaeological finds suggesting the Celtic tribes used wooden roads that predated Roman occupation.

Oh that's fun. I'm currently in the middle of the Hardcore History podcast on Caesar's conquest of the Celts, called The Celtic Holocaust. It's been very enlightening.

It was even more fun when Terry presented it in the context of a certain Life of Brian quote about what the Romans have done for us.

@Ramza when I read the article, I instantly thought of the Bishop. Cigarette dangling from his mouth, bowling down the road like a gangster in his cassock.

I wish it to be known that the persons responsible for reporting the death of Terry Jones have been sacked.

Ah, he was great. I know he had dementia for a while, so at least he's no longer suffering.

I always love this doc of him and Palin revisiting Holy Grail sets years later.

I knew Jones had dementia and was probably going to die relatively soon, but it still hurts to hear about it. Always sad to lose a Python.

I've always had a real soft spot for Cardinal Biggles, may he rest on soft cushions in a comfy chair forever.

Terry Jones was the python that it took me the longest o learn he name of, I guess he's not as much the centre of attention as John Cleese, Michael Palin or Eric Idle.
