    Let's Play Two (13-11) at ASSES (15-9)

Would the ASSES's opener (PHRASING!) strategy work once more in Aproids?

Well, thanks to a four-inning, one-run, two-hit, five-strikeout start from Cliff Lee, they had a great chance.

That chance was made even better by the bullpen using four pitches to toss five shutout innings, allowing just three hits along the way.

Meanwhile, Randy Johnson did not have the kind of start Let's Play Two needed for the Doubleheaders to compete against that level of pitching, going seven innings, allowing six runs on ten hits, striking out six, but walking five.

A Ron Santo homer to lead off the third actually gave the Doubleheaders a brief 1-0 lead, but the ASSES took it back in the bottom of the inning, getting an RBI single from Troy Tulowitzki and an RBI Double from King Kelly.

We'd stay at that close 2-1 score until the seventh, when a Hugh Duffy RBI single, Shane Spencer two-run homer, and Manny Ramirez solo homer broke the game wide open.

The ASSES would add two more in the eighth, on an RBI single from Kelly and an RBI ground rule double from Spencer as they cruised to victory.

Player of the Game, Brought to you by Using a Pandemic as an excuse for your racism: Shane Spencer
    Final: ASSES 8, Let's Play Two 1
    Win: Northrupp (3-1)
    Loss: Johnson (1-3)

    Monday, Aproids 29th
    Let's Play Two (13-12) at ASSES (16-9)

Walter Johnson would provide no hope for the Doubleheaders in this one, dominating as he lead the ASSES to the win column once again.

Johnson tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits, walking a pair, and striking out six.

Walt Bond hit a pair of homers - a solo shot to lead off the second and a two-run bomb in the fourth - and King Kelly added a solo homer in the seventh to help back Johnson.

Player of the Game, Brought to you by Using a Pandemic as an excuse for your racism: Walter Johnson
    Final: ASSES 6, Let's Play Two 0
    Win: Johnson (5-1)
    Loss: Jenkins (2-3)

    Tuesday, Aproids 30th
    Let's Play Two (13-13) at ASSES (17-9)

A Walt Bond RBI single in the second inning, and a three-run third inning for the ASSES, with RBI singles from Hugh Duffy and Manny Ramirez and an RBI ground out by Bond had the Doubleheaders feeling like they might be in for a long day and another blowout.

But, the Doubleheaders pulled one back in the third inning, as Ran Santo tripled to score Ryne Sandberg.

The ASSES got that run back in the bottom of the third, getting an RBI single from King Kelly, but the Doubleheaders got two in the fifth, on consecutive RBI singles from Sammy Sosa and Sandberg, cutting the lead to 5-3, and marking the first (and spoiler: only) time in the series both teams would score multiple runs in the same game.

Marlon Anderson got an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth, but a Yogi Berra RBI single in the top of the eighth made it a two-run game again, with an RBI single from Duffy making it 7-4 heading into the ninth.

Christy Mathewson went out to try to finish the game, and Idina Menzel as Maureen probably wants that decision back, as Mathewson walked Frank Robinson to open the inning, gave up a single to Ken Griffey, Jrl, and then an RBI single to Ernie Banks, before Menzel finally saw enough and went to her closer.

Dennis Eckersly came in, and struck out Sammy Sosa, but gave up an RBI single to Sandberg, making it a one-run game with runners on the corners and one out. Eckersly, though, struck out Frank Thomas, and got a shallow fly out from Santo to get the save.

Player of the Game, Brought to you by Using a Pandemic as an excuse for your racism: Hugh Duffy
    Final: ASSES 7, Let's Play Two 6
    Win: Mathewson (2-3)
    Loss: Plank (2-2)
    Save: Eckersly (5)

    ASSES (18-9) at Let's Play Two (13-14)

A new month, but ASSES would get another dominant performance from a starting pitcher, this time from Clayton Kershaw, who resumed his regular season form, going six innings, giving up no runs on three hits, and striking out five.

He'd leave the game with a 5-0 lead.

Hugh Duffy staked him to a 1-0 lead in the first, with an RBI single. Then, in the third, Shane Spencer hit a three-run homer and Walt Bond a solo homer to make it 5-0 early.

We'd stay there until both starting pitchers left the game.

With Koji Uehara on, Ran Santo would get an RBI single to put the Let's Play Two on the board, and with Lee Smith on, Spencer would hit a solo homer to cap the scoring.

Player of the Game, brought to you by perpetually eating a Chicago style hot dog instead of wearing a mask when in public: Clayton Kershaw
    Final: ASSES 6, Let's Play Two 1
    Win: Kershaw (3-3)
    Loss: Palmer (1-4)

    Thursday, Maebe 2nd
    ASSES (19-9) at Let's Play Two (13-15)

Finally, Let's Play Two would get a dominant performance from a starting pitcher, and get the win.

Greg Maddux was ... Greg Maddux. Vintage Greg Maddux. He tossed a complete game, giving up one run on six hits, walking two and striking out three.

The Doubleheaders got him a pair of runs in the first, with an RBI double by Ernie Banks, and an RBI single by Ryne Sanberg.

A Sandberg ground out scored a run in the third to make it 3-0, and after Bill Joyce got an RBI ground out as a pinch hitter in the top of hte seventh, Ken Griffey Jr. hit a three-run homer off of Sergio Romo in the bottom of the inning to remove all doubt.

Ron Santo added an RBI single in the eighth.

Player of the Game, brought to you by perpetually eating a Chicago style hot dog instead of wearing a mask when in public: Greg Maddux
    Final: Let's Play Two 7, ASSES 1
    Win: Maddux (4-1)
    Loss: Lee (2-1)

    Friday, Maebe 3rd
    ASSES (19-10) at Let's Play Two (14-15)

And in the series finale, it was Walter Johnson's turn to be Greg Maddux.

And Randy Johnson's turn to be Bob Gibson.

Walter Johnson needed just 98 pitches to toss the complete game, giving up one run on six hits, while striking out seven. Johnson also hit a homer - a two-run shot in the fourth - to back his cause.

Walt Bond hit a pair of homers, and drove in four runs.

Randy Johnson went seven-and-two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs (five earned) on 9 hits. He struck out eight, but he walked seven.

Player of the Game, brought to you by perpetually eating a Chicago style hot dog instead of wearing a mask when in public: Walter Johnson ()
    Final: ASSES 8, Let's Play Two 1
    Win: Johnson (6-1)
    Loss: Johnson (1-4)

Records at the end of the series:

    ASSES (20-10)

Due to the pandemic, we have an announcement:

    Aproids 28th

DarthTunick (Reseda Free Fallers) [10-14] vs. AmazingB (The Amazings) [6-18] @ Marlins Park

Tom Seaver and Dazzy Vance were electrifying in the first game of the COVID-19 moved set between the Reseda Free Fallers and The Amazings.

The Free Fallers had the best early shot, when most hitters usually do, in the first inning -- getting men on first and second with one out, but Tom Seaver induced Willie Mays into the 6-4-3 double play and ended the early threat. After that we wouldn't get a runner to second or beyond with fewer than two outs until the fifth inning.

In that fifth inning, Babe Ruth would start to earn his keep for the Amazings and jack a solo shot to right field, making it 1-0 Amazings. And that would still be it for scoring until the 7th. The Amazings would threaten again in the sixth, with a man on second with one out, then third with two outs -- but Dazzy Vance was good enough on the day to get out of it.

Having chances and not taking advantage has been trouble for The Amazings all season, so in the seventh when Duke Snider pinch-hit for the Free Fallers to end Dazzy Vance's day with runners on the corners and two outs... it seemed inevitable. Duke Snider singled to tie the game at one, and put the go-ahead run in scoring position. And then No-mah smoked a single to left field, but luck finally turned for The Amazings -- Mel Ott gunned down Mike Piazza at the plate to keep the game tied at one-apiece.

The Free Fallers had their chance again in the 8th, as Willie Mays would hit a triple with two outs, but he was stranded as Seaver would finish out his day getting Giancarlo Stanton looking (@heels1785 nods sagely). The Amazings would whiff in the 8th, and Joe Nathan would retire the Free Fallers 1-2-3 in the ninth... so either we were walking off, or we were getting free baseball.

Mike Marshall was in to pitch for the Free Fallers (with Bruce Sutter on the bench) so you see where this is going. Mel Ott led off the inning with a walk. Babe Ruth singled to right-center, and Ott moved to third. And Hank Greenberg Hank Greenberged and drove a ball almost out of the park to left, but deep enough -- with Mel Ott tagging and scoring before Willie Stargell's throw could get him out. Amazings win!

Player of the Game, sponsored by COVID-19 matzoh: Hank Greenberg
Final: The Amazings 2, Reseda Free Fallers 1
    Win: Joe Nathan (2-1)
    Loss: Mike Marshall (1-2)

    Aproids 29th

DarthTunick (Reseda Free Fallers) [10-15] vs. AmazingB (The Amazings) [7-18] @ Marlins Park

Mike Scott versus Lefty Grove, and The Amazings would try and continue stopping their horrific early season slide against the pitcher that was the bane of the Amazings existence in 1986.

Mel Ott and The Amazings picked up where they left off -- with Ott hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to make it 2-0 Amazings. Two runs on two hits... and then Mike Scott would settle in for the rest of the game, giving up only three more hits and one walk in the next eight innings.

Lefty Grove on the other hand was dominant through five. Facing only one over the minimum through four, and getting out of his first jam in the fifth. Then in the sixth, the Free Fallers remembered how to hit. Nomar led off the inning with a single, followed by a Chipper Jones single, and a Willie Stargell fly-out that put runners on the corners with one out. Willie Mays triple (scoring Nomar and Chipper), Stanton double (scoring Mays), Thome walk, Joe Morgan single (scoring Stanton)... by the time Joe Nathan would come in to pitch for Grove it was 4-2 Free Fallers, and that's where we'd end the inning.

The Amazings would have their chance to tie in the 7th. Mel Ott would walk, followed by a Ruth single, a Greenberg whiff, and a Ripken single -- loading the bases with one-out. Mike Scott was Mike Scott, and got Bench to line-out to 3B and Clemente to ground-out to SS. Meanwhile, Joe Morgan would add another 2-run homer to right. 6-2 Free Fallers. And that's where we'd end the game, as Scott would finish the game out and we'd finally meet Joe Black who would also be successful.

Player of the Game, sponsored by COVID-19 reliving 1986: Mike Scott
Final: Reseda Free Fallers 6, The Amazings 2
    Win: Mike Scott (3-1)
    Loss: Lefty Grove (1-2)

    Aproids 30th

DarthTunick (Reseda Free Fallers) [11-15] vs. AmazingB (The Amazings) [7-19] @ Marlins Park

Another game, another pitcher's duel... this time Luis Tiant versus Warren Spahn. Both would be good, neither would figure in the decision.

The Free Fallers would score first (and second) in the second (and third). In the second, the bases would be loaded with Free Fallers (Mays, Stanton, Morgan) with one out, and Mike Piazza would score first blood with a ball hit so hard to left-center that only one run could score -- and then Tiant would do himself no favors by hitting into the 6-4-3 double play. In the third, Willie Mays would score Nomar (having hit a triple) with a single. 2-0 Free Fallers. In the third, The Amazings would score on a Boggs single scoring Jackie Robinson, making it 2-1 Free Fallers.

And that would be it through the seventh inning. The Free Fallers would be the first to go to the bullpen, pulling Luis Tiant for Jesse Orosco. Proving successful, Orosco would give two solid innings in the sixth and seventh. Mike Marshall brought in to pitch in the eighth was... less successful. Giving up the leadoff walk to Bench, Bench was erased on a fielder's choice by Clemente and then The Amazings would finally end Warren Spahn's night by pinch-hitting with Carlos Beltran. It was almost successful -- as Beltran would hit a short-shot to left field that Willie Stargell had to making an incredible diving play to get the out. So Mike Marshall was almost successful -- as Jackie Robinson would hit a two-run homer over the CF wall to make it 3-2 Amazings.

The Amazings would turn to Dan Quisenberry for the save. It was boom or bust immediately -- Piazza would bloop a single in, Matt Holliday (pinch-hitting for Sparky Lyle) smoked a single putting runners on the corners, Nomar would line out to 3B and Chipper Jones fouled out to 1B. Two outs, two on, and Willie Stargell at the plate -- who would double to left center scoring Piazza easily and even with a perfect relay through Ripken, Matt Holliday would score under the tag. Two half-innings, two blown saves. 4-3 Free Fallers.

With Bruce Sutter in to attempt to close out the game again, The Amazings would threaten but there would not be a third blown save in the same game. 4-3 Free Fallers would be the final.

Player of the Game, sponsored by COVID-19 killing submariners: Mike Piazza
Final: Reseda Free Fallers 4, The Amazings 3
    Win: Sparky Lyle (0-1)
    Loss: Dan Quisenberry (0-3)
    Save:: Bruce Sutter (4)

AmazingB (The Amazings) [7-20] vs. DarthTunick (Reseda Free Fallers) [12-15] @ Marlins Park

Sandy Koufax pitching for the Free Fallers is... //chef's kiss. Sandy Koufax looking like he's going to pitch like he did for dp4m is... //double chef's kiss.

In the second, The Amazings struck first -- with Hank Greenberg smashing a solo homer to left-center. The Amazings would add two more in the third when pitcher Robin Roberts helped his own cause with a solo homer to left-center, and Wade Boggs would later double home Jackie Robinson. 3-0 Amazings. The Free Fallers would get one run back in the bottom of the third with a Piazza single scoring Joe Morgan. And in the fourth, Johnny Bench would hit yet another solo homer off of Koufax to right, making it 4-1 Amazings.

That would be where we were until the sixth, as Roberts would match Koufax for two innings worth of 1-2-3 half-innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Roberts would run out of gas and give up a two run homer to Chipper Jones, and Jim Thome would sac-fly in Willie Mays that would leave the game tied at 4-4. Koufax would continue to remember he was actually Sandy Koufax and stay in the game, running into trouble -- and getting out of it -- in the 7th, and mowing everyone down in the 8th. And in the bottom of the 8th, the Normally Reliable Joe Nathan would end his reliability and give up a backbreaking two-run homer to Willie Mays. 6-4 Free Fallers.

In a controversial move, Koufax would be left in for the bottom of the ninth to try and get the complete game. Ripken immediately singled to lead off the inning, followed by two quick outs from Bench and Clemente. A pinch-hitting Minnie Minoso singled to put runners on the corner, and Jackie Robinson would walk to load the bases. Three on, two outs, down by two and Wade Boggs at the bat. Alas, Boggs fell off the horse as he would fly out to center to end the game.

Player of the Game, sponsored by COVID-19 eating matzoh ball soup: Sandy Koufax
Final: Reseda Free Fallers 6, The Amazings 4
    Win: Sandy Koufax (3-3)
    Loss: Joe Nathan (2-2)

AmazingB (The Amazings) [7-21] vs. DarthTunick (Reseda Free Fallers) [13-15] @ Marlins Park

Another Amazings / Free Fallers game -- and yet another pitcher's duel. Most of the scoring was over in the third inning.

In the first, the Free Fallers would score first on a Willie Mays triple scoring No-mah. 1-0 Free Fallers. And in the third, The Amazings would have Wade Boggs drive a solo homer to right. 1-1.

The Amazings would threaten in the fifth, on bases loaded with two outs -- but nada. The Free Fallers would threaten in the sixth, with men on first and second and one out -- but bubkus. The Amazings would go to the bullpen first -- after eight spectacular innings from Kid Nichols -- and Joe Nathan would pitch, and pitch well. Bob Feller would pitch through regulation and beyond as this one would need extras to settle up.

Bob Feller would pitch ten full innings, with a final line of 10 IP, on seven hits, five walks, one run and four strikeouts... and still not factor into the decision. Similarly Joe Nathan would pitch through the 10th and ALSO not factor into the decision.

We'd go to the 11th inning, where Jesse Orosco pitching against the Amazings was //chef's kiss... also: effective! As he'd get two quick outs, a walk, and then a third out. Tom Henke would enter the game for The Amazings where he'd face 2-3-4 in the lineup. Starting with a groundout to Chipper Jones, and followed with a Willie Stargell single. Willie Mays would see strike 3 looking. Two outs and the man with home-field advantage at the plate with a chance to walk it off: Giancarlo Stanton.

Almost like a "Hit It Here" sign, the statue called -- and Stanton would walk it off for all three fans in attendance...

Player of the Game, sponsored by COVID-19 with the home field advantage: Giancarlo Stanton
Final: Reseda Free Fallers 3, The Amazings 1 (11 Innings)
    Win: Jesse Orosco (2-1)
    Loss: Tom Henke (0-3)

    Maeby 3rd

AmazingB (The Amazings) [7-22] vs. DarthTunick (Reseda Free Fallers) [14-15] @ Marlins Park

Another game, another couple of good pitching performances, another walk-off.

Both Hal Newhouser and Dazzy Vance would pitch well, and The Amazings would need to wait until the 6th to score first -- Ripken would double home Babe Ruth, to make it 1-0 Amazings. In the 7th, Hank Greenberg would single and score Jackie Robinson and Wade Boggs. 3-0 Amazings. The Free Fallers would get it all back in the bottom of the 7th, with a Joe Morgan solo homer to lead-off the inning, and a Willie Mays single scoring Piazza and Jones. 3-3.

And then we'd get Tom Henke vs. Jesse Orosco to finish off the game, with the same result. In the bottom of the ninth, still tied 3-3, Willie Stargell would walk it off with a single to right, scoring Matt Holliday and ending the game.

Player of the Game, sponsored by COVID-19 stargazing: Willie Stargell
Final: Reseda Free Fallers 4, The Amazings 3
    Win: Jesse Orosco (3-1)
    Loss: Tom Henke (0-4)

Final Standings: Reseda Free Fallers [15-15] || The Amazings [7-23]

stone temple seattle pilots (16-8) at Every City Bandwagoners (18-6)

When stone temple seattle pilots scored three runs in the first inning - Jocko Milligan continued his scorching Aproids with a two-run single, and scored on a single by Cesar Cedeno - it looked like they would cruise to victory, with Pedro Martinez on the mound.

However, Martinez wasn't quite dominant today, and it was apparent soon that this would be no blowout.

In the bottom of the inning, with two outs, Albert Pujols and Mickey Mantle went back-to-back on solo homers to cut the lead to 3-2.

George Brett got an RBI single in the third, but Mantle hit another solo homer to lead off the fourth, and it was still a one-run game at 4-3.

George Brett added an RBI double in the fifth, and that would lead would hold until the eighth, when Rickey Henderson hit a one-out solo homer to pull his team within 5-4.

After Rod Beck worked a scoreless ninth to keep it a one-run game, the pilots turned to Eric Gagne in the ninth. Gagne struck out Larry Walker to start the inning, got Puster Bosey to ground out, and then got a shallow flyout from Eddie Collins to end the game.

stone temple seattle pilots (17-8) at Every City Bandwagoners (18-7)

Another day of baseball, and another dramatic affair.

stone temple seattle pilots took the early lead as - who else - Jocko Milligan hit a two-run homer in the top of the first. We suspect many a Seattle kid born in about nine simulated months will be named Jocko.

Tip O'Neill got an RBI double in the second, but Every City Bandwagoners got on the board in the bottom of the second, as Eddie Collins grounded out to score Larry Walker. Albert Pujols hit a solo homer in the third, to cut it to 3-2.

In the fifth, it looked like the pilots would put enough distance between themselves and the Bandwagoners. Nap Lajoie hit a leadoff homer, and Cesar Cedeno and Mark Loretta each got ground outs after the bases were loaded, and it was 6-2.

But, Rickey Henderson hit a leadoff homer in the fifth, and Walker hit a two-run shot in the sixth, and suddenly, it was a one-run game again. A sac fly from Mike Schmidt with the bases loaded in the seventh tied the game, and a single by Walker scored a pair and gave the Bandwagoners their first lead of the series.

They would take that lead to the ninth, and Judge Judy would give the ball to the normally reliable Francisco Rodriguez. Rodriguez walked Tip O'Neill to start the inning, and gave up a double to Nap Lajoie to score O'Neill. Todd Helton Drew a walk, and ... you guessed it ... Jocko Milligan hit a go-ahead three run homer, which ended the night for Rodriguez without him retiring a single batter. The immortal Rod Beck relieved, and escaped the inning without any further damage.

In the bottom of the ninth, the pilots turned to Eric Gagne. Gagne struck out Albert Pujols to start the inning, but walked Mickey Mantle, bringing the tying run to the plate. Mike Schmidt fouled out, but Larry Walker singled, putting men on the corners, the tying run on base, and the winning run at the plate in the person of Buster Posey ... who grounded out to second to end the game

Player of the Game brought to you by playing in front of empty stadiums before it was cool: if you smell what the Jocko is cooking
    Final: pilots 10, Bandwagoners 8
    Win: Kimbrel (2-3)
    Loss: Rodriguez (2-1)
    Save: Gagne (9)

    Tuesday, Aproids 30th
stone temple seattle pilots (18-8) at Every City Bandwagoners (18-8)

Unlike the first two games, the stone temple seattle pilots would not let the Every City Bandwagoners take hope into the late innings.

Tied at one entering the fifth, the pilots got an RBI single from Tip O'Neill, a sac fly from Nap Lajoie, and an RBI single from Jocko Milligan, giving them a 4-1 lead.

Then, in the sixth, the pilots blew the game wide open.

A Cesar Cedeno walk opened the inning, but he was erased on a 3-6-3 double play. Then, with two outs in the inning, Ichiro singled, and moved to third on a single by the pinch-hitting Oscar Gamble. O'Neill singled to score Ichiro, and Lajoie walked to load the bases. Todd Helton doubled to score everyone and empty the bases, and end the night for Roger Clemens. However, Bandwagoners' reliever Goose Gossage didn't end the pilots scoring. Jocko Milligan doubled to score Helton, and George Brett singled to score Milligan, making it a six-run inning and a 10-1 lead.

The Bandwagoners would score two with two outs in the ninth, but otherwise limp home in the loss.

Every City Bandwagoners (18-9) "at" stone temple seattle pilots (19-8)

Albert Pujols got Every City Bandwagoners off to a great start, notching an RBI single in the top of the first.

That lead would stand for a bit, as Bandwagoners starter Roy Halladay tossed a one-hit shutout through three innings.

But, in the fourth, it was you know who - Jocko Milligan with a two-run homer to put the pilots on top.

A Todd Helton solo homer in the fifth extended the lead to 3-1, but a Mickey Mantle RBI single in the sixth brought it back to 3-2. The pilots answered right back, though, getting RBI singles from Ichiro and Charlie Bender in their half of the sixth to make it 5-2.

Rickey Henderson gave hope to the Bandwagoners, getting an RBI single in the seventh, but Cesar Cedeno connected on a two-run homer off of Rod Beck in the eighth, to push the lead to four.

Bender went the distance, giving up three runs on just five hits.

Player of the Game brought to you by literally playing your home game in your opponent's stadium: Charlie Bender
    Final: pilots 7, Bandwagoners 3
    Win: Bender (4-2)
    Loss: Halladay (2-3)

Every City Bandwagoners (18-10) "at" stone temple seattle pilots (20-8)

A Mickey Mantle solo homer and Eddie Collins sac fly in the second. A Honus Wagner RBI triple, Albert Pujols two-run homer, and a Buster Posey sac fly in the fifth.

And Brett Saberhagen taking a shutout into the eighth inning.

Surely, that would be enough for Every City Bandwagoners to get their first win against stone temple seattle pilots. I mean, There's a 99.19% chance of the road team winning when up six in the eighth inning.

So the Bandwagoners surely would win this one.

    Right?

    Wrong.

In the eighth, Nap Lajoie was hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning, and singles by Todd Helton and Jocko Milligan loaded the bases. Saberhagen issued run-scoring walks to George Brett and Cesar Cedeno, prompting Judge Judy to pull him in favor of Rod Beck. Beck got a double play ground ball from Mark Loretta, scoring a run, but giving the Bandwagoners a chance to end the inning. Ichiro singled to score Brett, making it 6-4. Edgar Martinez stepped up as a pinch hitter, and singled, putting runners on the corners, and Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan sent Hughie Jennings out to pinch run for Martinez. That was a genius move, as Tip O'Neill doubled, scoring Ichiro and Jennings, tying the game, and ending Beck's night, with Jonathan Papelbon coming on to retire Nap Lajoie to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Fernado Rodney worked around a leadoff single to keep us tied heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Todd Helton singled off Papelbon to open the inning, and Jocko Milligan laced a double to right. Helton ran through the stop sign at third, Mickey Mantle fired a strike from right field to the cutoff man, Eddie Collins, who turned and fired a perfect relay throw to the plate ... but Helton JUST beat the throw, giving his team the walk-off win in dramatic fashion.

Every City Bandwagoners (18-11) "at" stone temple seattle pilots (21-8)

Larry Walker doubled home a run in the second, Rickey Henderson doubled home two in the fourth, and then scored on a triple by Honus Wagner, giving Every City Bandwagoners a 4-0 lead through four.

In the fifth, Cesar Cedeno would leadoff the inning with a solo homer, Tip O'Neill would triple to score Ichiro, and then score on a single by Nap Lajoie, and suddenly, it was 4-3.

But, this time, the Bandwagoners would find their resolve. Mickey Mantle would double to score Albert Pujols in the seventh, Rickey Henderson singled home Eddie Collins in the eighth to make it 5-3, and a Walker single would score Mantle in the top of the ninth, allowing the Bandwagoners to take a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the inning.

Judge Judy sent Eddie Cicotte out to try to get the complete game.

Cicotte opened the inning with a single by Mark Loretta and a walk to Ichiro, before striking out the pinch hitting Oscar Gamble. Cicotte walked O'Neill to load the bases, and got a fielder's choice from Lajoie to score Loretta, making it 7-4, but providing the second out. With it now being a save situation and Judge Judy having Francisco Rodriguez on her fantasy team, she went to her closer, who got Todd Helton to hit into a simple 6-4 force out to end the game, and allow the Bandwagoners to prevent the six-game sweep.

Player of the Game brought to you by literally playing your home game in your opponent's stadium: Rickey Henderson
    Final: Bandwagoners 7, pilots 4
    Win: Cicotte (5-1)
    Loss: Wood (1-1)
    Save: Rodriguez (5)

performance enhancers (14-10) @ game of throws (9-15)

marlins park, here we go. quarantine baseball.

the enhancers got a 3-run home run from al rosen in top of the first and they never looked back in game of one of their david-19 series against game of thrones.

jacob degrom was the star of the day, tossing a complete-game 5-hitter, allowing only 1 run, and striking out 12 game of throws batters.

corey kluber only really made three mistakes, but they were big ones. the first was to rosen. the second led to a bases clearing double by ty cobb in the 4th. and the third set up norm cash for a solo homer leading off the 5th. it all added up to 7 runs allowed and a blowout win for the enhancers.

player of the game, brought to you by building bigger dugouts to allow for a healthy 6 feet of distance between all players: jacob degrom

    final: Enhancers 7, Throws 1
    win: degrom (4-3)
    loss: kluber (1-2)

performance enhancers (15-10) @ game of throws (9-16)

for the second straight day the enhancers absolutely dominated game of throws at marlins park.

barry bonds homered twice and drove in 4, harry heilmann added a home run and 5 rbi's of his own, and steve carlton cruised to a complete game 2-hit shutout, striking out 10.

justin verlander struggled mightily for throws, lasting only 5 innings and giving up 9 runs on 13 hits. in the end the enhancers hammered out 17 hits and 12 runs in this utter bludgeoning.

player of the game, brought to you by building bigger dugouts to allow for a healthy 6 feet of distance between all players: steve carlton

    final: Enhancers 12, Throws 0
    win: carlton (2-1)
    loss: verlander (0-2)

performance enhancers (16-10) @ game of throws (9-17)

well it was another game of throws "home game" and another enhancers blowout, as for the second time in three days al rosen and norm cash powered them to victory.

the two combine to go 5-8 with 2 home runs, driving in 5 of the enhancers 7 runs, and accounting for the difference in the game.

for the third straight day the enhancers got solid pitching, this time from old hoss radbourn, who threw a complete game, allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits. old hoss did hit two batters, but i'm not sure he didn't mean to.

john clarkson also went the distance, but struggled, allowing 7 runs on 12 hits.

player of the game, brought to you by building bigger dugouts to allow for a healthy 6 feet of distance between all players: norm cash

    final: Enhancers 7, Throws 2
    win: radbourn (4-1)
    loss: clarkson (0-2)

game of throws (9-18) @ peformance enhancers (17-10)

game of throws were desperately hoping that changing the calendar and changing what half of the inning they batted in would somehow change their fortunes.

their prayers would be answered in the form of russ ford.

ford gave game of throws exactly what they needed, tossing a complete game 5-hitter and allowing only one run.

the offense didn't exactly explode, but back to back rbi hits by cody bellinger and scott rolen in the 4th, and a 2-run triple by chris hoiles in the 7th gave them all that they needed.

pete alexander allowed only 4-hits in his 8 innings of work for the enhancers, but was the tough luck loser.

player of the game, brought to you by face masks becoming part of the mandatory uniform: russ ford

    final: Throws 4, Enhancers 1
    win: ford (2-2)
    loss: alexander (3-3)

    thursday, maeby 2nd
game of throws (10-18) @ performance enhancers (17-11)

the game of throws offense would finally wake up in this one, and behind the pitching of silver king it looked like they would cruise to victory, but then things would get a little bit interesting.

chase utley and chris hoiles each had 3 hits and scored 3 times for throws. robin yount outdid them both, collecting 5 hits and scoring 4 times. clearly rube waddell struggled on the mound for the enhancers, and as we headed to the bottom of the 9th game of throws held a commanding 11-2 lead.

silver king was still on the mound, and to that point he had been cruising. but to open the 9th he promptly gave up 4 consecutive hits, scoring one run and loading the bases for al rosen. king would induce rosen to hit into a double play, allowing the enhancers' 4th run to score, but putting throws one out away from a 2nd straight victory.

and they almost ended it right there, as king got joe mauer to hit a harmless foul pop up. but chris hoiles dropped it and mauer returned to the plate. then he homered, and it was 11-6 throws. still they had a 5-run lead and only needed one more out.

    charlie gehringer... single.
    luke appling... walk.
pinch hitter miguel cabrera... 2-run double.

11-8 throws, and that finally did it for silver king, as jon snow looked to the bullpen and called upon trevor hoffman to get that elusive final out. he would walk ty cobb. then harry heilmann hit a run scoring single that made it 11-9 and put runners on the corners for barry bonds, representing the winning run.

but barry couldn't be the hero this time. hoffman got him to chase a changeup out of the zone, and bonds went down swinging, mercifully ending the game with the lead still in tact for game of throws.

player of the game, brought to you by face masks becoming part of the mandatory uniform: robin yount

    final: Throws 11, Enhancers 9
    win: king (2-1)
    loss: waddell (0-1)
    save: hoffman (2)

    friday, maeby 3rd
game of throws (11-18) @ performance enhancers (17-12)

would a "home" team finally win a game in this series? for a while it at least looked like it.

a norm cash 2-run homer helped power the enhancers to a 5-2 lead as we went to the top of the 7th. but that's when their starter, max scherzer would finally hit a wall. a one-out pinch hit three-run home run by hack wilson tied the game at 5 and ended the night for scherzer with a no-decision.

a rbi double by joe mauer in the bottom of the frame once again put the enhancers on top, but in the top of the 8th an enhancers pitcher would again find himself in trouble.

this time it was the normally reliable keith foulke who walked cody bellinger and joe mauer, but retired scott rolen and chris hoiles, setting the stage with 2 on and 2 out. jon snow would once again call on a pinch hitter, this time jason giambi. and giambi would deliver, incredibly hitting throws' 2nd 3-run pinch hit home run of the game, as he launched one over the right center field wall.

and this time the enhancers were out of magic. trevor hoffman would again come on for the save in the bottom of the 9th. with one out he walked joe mauer and then gave up a double to charlie gehringer, putting the tying runs in scoring position with only one out. but then hoffman knuckled down. he struck out luke appling, and then got pinch hitting roger maris to fly out, ending the threat and preserving the once unlikely series split.

player of the game, brought to you by face masks becoming part of the mandatory uniform: jason giambi

    final: Throws 8, Enhancers 6
    win: wilhelm (1-3)
    loss: foulke (3-2)
    save: hoffman (3)

records at the end of the series:

    performance enhancers - 17-13
    game of throws - 12-18

Yes, how terrible to be on pace for the equivalent of a 92-win season.

    Amazing.
