Maybe the left side isn't strong enough? So that you have to strain your left eye muscles.

Exactly. Check the label. You want something that blocks 99-100% of UV-A and UV-B rays. Also wear a hat with a brim when you're out in the sun. If you've been good about protecting your eyes from sunlight all your life maybe you'll be able to avoid the cataract surgery that many/most older Americans have to have in their 60s and 70s. Also...eyelid cancer. Bet you didn't think about that one.

My glasses are varifocals - they are pretty good but took a bit of getting used to. I also wear contacts - mostly if I'm driving or walking into town. I wear the glasses at home.

I had been shortsighted and wearing glasses/contacts since I was 4 years old. In 2013 I finally had laser surgery (my eyes were at that point -6.5 and -5.0 diopters, with a very slight astigmatism in my right eye). The surgery was very quick and painless. I learned two things: one, I had no idea I could have feeling in my eyeballs until they were numbed, and two, applying laser to the eye lens smells like burning hair. :p The recovery was okay, too - I was given sleeping pills to sleep through the worst of the post-op pain and painkillers. I also had to wear sunglasses indoors as my eyes were very sensitive. But in the end it was a great thing - I could finally do any activity without having to resort to wearing contacts. Especially swimming, where I couldn't wear contacts and it was the only thing I had to do with blurry sight.

Edit: Also, funny anecdote, I was told by an optician years ago that if I ever wanted to have children, I would need to have C-section, as apparently my "diopters were too high" and "the pressure involved in childbirth could damage my retinas", or something to that effect. Having given birth naturally with no issues whatsoever, I call BS on that. :p

Haha it's ok. I actually lived in LA at the time that I got them done in KC over a break.

My eyes must be getting worse...I was playing some Star Fox 64 for nostalgia's sake, and I couldn't make out any of the enemies against the dark background. Never had this issue before...

Or maybe the contrast settings on this monitor are just different. That would be the more hopeful explanation.

My eyes are +.75 in each eye and a mild astigmatism in one of the eyes (can't remember which). The only time I notice anything is reading on the computer screen, which gives me a massive headache. So, I have cute reading glasses now. [face_librarian]
