JCC What is the next BIG sport?

So what will be the next big thing? I know football is seeing a decline of kids playing due to more studies on concussions being a big factor. Baseball has Tommy John problems because kids are blowing their arms out trying to pitch over 90 mph. So parents are taking all this into consideration.

There's lacrosse, but not I'm not sure if it's as big of a movement people have tried to make it. Rugby though I'm seeing more and more of. Even women playing it. Heck, I overheard while watching a softball game here one of the girls behind me saying how she was apart of a rugby team. With its appeal of being "tougher" and more action I can see why.

So what sport is going to take off do you think?

 

Cricket. Only 2.2bn people watch it globally, that's only several times more people than watch US football...

 

In the future we'll stop doing outdoor activities and people will just watch streamers on twitch playing among themselves.

 

Esports is on the rise, but that's a different subject than this considering...well no it can be included in this I guess. But I was thinking more of the regular sports, not video games.

For participating in a sport, swimming is one of the fastest growing, but next to no one watches it.

Two sports you didn't even mention are football (soccer) and cricket- by far and away the biggest spectator sports in the world.

 

Synchronized speed knitting. It’s a very competitive niche.

 

Both of my kids play competitive-level / travel soccer... in many parts of the US it’s huge.

 

Oh yeah, that'd really take off as a great sport

 

My good friend in Louisville is a massive footie fan and over the moon that Racing Louisville is now a thing!

 

F1 is getting traction now that Drive to Survive has a few seasons under its belt and the US has a much-loved grand prix track. Still, Americans seem to prefer watching cars with primitive aerodynamic profiles drive in circles whilst being sponsored by power tool companies that think themselves extraordinarily clever for being able to shoehorn innuendo into the marketing campaign for a power drill.
