One of the things that stands out to me the most on these candid shots is Carrie Fisher, so attractive and also her fun and playful side really shines too.

I did not realize that the rancor eating the Gamorrean was done in stop motion.

    I don't think it was stop-motion , it was a hand puppet.

I think the footage was shot at a high speed to give the miniature Rancor puppet and Gammorean guard doll some 'weight'.

Would like to see the more gruesome footage of the guard being eaten. There's a well-known pic of the guard's severed arm sticking out of the Rancor's mouth. [face_laugh]

You know I never got why Han's pants have a ridiculous stripes going down the sides.

The Corellian Blood Stripe. But, by ROTJ he had only been killing people with yellow blood.

Did not know that was a thing. Thanks.

There were two classes of Bloodstripes. The second class was represented by yellow piping; the first class was represented by red piping, and were almost always awarded posthumously. - From Wookiepedia

Wow, I've never heard that thing about them being usually awarded posthumously. So did Han steal the pants off a corpse or something?

That’s a very interesting pic of the Princess Leia body double, filming the insert shot for her holding her concealed pistol, before shooting the Stormtroopers. Filmed by George Lucas?

    Nice! Keep them coming.

I was guessing that the kind of heroism needed to get them, normally involves the hero dying in the process. Something like a Medal of Honor, but involving even higher personal hazard to the winner.

According to Wookiepedia, Han's actions that earned him the red blood stripes have never been disclosed, other than it may have be a two day operation.

The gold ones were believed earned during his rescue of Chewy.

More a fashion statement, the Rebel generals had yellow/gold stripes down their pants in ROTJ, including Leia and Lando. The Rebel pilots had thicker white stripes down the sleeves of their flight suits and some Rebels had different colour stripes on the tunic sleeves in RO.

The Corellian bloodstripes are dashed, while the Rebel generals' ROTJ pant stripes are solid, IIRC.

Yes you're right about the pant stripes of Rebel Gens being solid but the jacket sleeve stripes aren't.

The jacket sleeve stripes are especially wide, and I don't know what significance they might have. As a design motif they were introduced by the late SW and ESB costume designer John Mollo, who was an expert in the history of military uniforms. The "blood stripes" of Han's pants were presumably modeled after the similarly named "blood stripes" on the trousers of US Marines, though in SW lore they're a particular decoration, rather than being commonly worn as with standard Marine dress uniforms. I wonder where that detail was introduced?
