Remove that list or KK announces four new trilogies soon.

Wait, is that how this works? If so, here's one director that should never get a trilogy:

    Rian Johnson.

OK, done. Kennedy, you gonna announce now that his trilogy is moving forward? Please?

You are too late. His trilogy was already announced and moved already forward. At LF moving forward means canceled.

If Rian Johnson does another SW film, it should be something in the crime area. This is a genre that he's much more natural at than traditional adventure.

I would die to have both of them be given a SW movie. And add Cuaron to that list, and perhaps Bigelow and Nolan. Heck, give one to Sapochnik too. And Chow and Famuyiwa. Stop hiring boring mainstream directors whose styles are so milquetoast.

    Jane Campion.
I recently watched The Power of the Dog, her new film on Netflix.

I’d like to see Joss Whedon direct with Kevin Feige as sole producer and Ryan Church as lead concept artist.

Famuyiwa would be my pick as well. He nailed every episode of The Mandalorian he did, including the best one of the entire show.

But outside of that, wouldn't they first need to start with something to be able to stop it?
Their list of recent directors doesn't exactly scream mainstream.

    - JJ Abrams, in a way yes, but he wasn't exactly seen as the most generic in his style at that time
    - Gareth Edwards, definately not mainstream
    - Rian Johnson, definately not mainstream either
    - Lord & Miller, same
    - Ron Howard, yes, but he only came in as a replacement to get the movie back on track
    - Colin Trevorrow, one big movie beforehand, hardly mainstream

    and for future movies:
    - Taika Waititi, definately not
    - Patty Jenkins, one big movie at that time, hardly mainstream

Outside of Abrams, they went with "fresh young face" virtually every time.

As you know, this is what I imagine the film they play on a loop in hell is.

After watching Pig, I think Michael Sarnoski could have directed the hell out of an Obi-Wan movie.

Also, Sam Mendes, given what he did with 1917, I think he could present a SW film in a way we've never thought of before.

And if she wasn't already brought on board, I would have said Patty Jenkins, for the sheer joy and heart she was able to bring to her WW films, warts and all.

Something small and introspective like that is exactly what I would have wanted from an Obi-Wan story, as opposed to what the show we're actually getting seems to be.

    Mendes is another great suggestion.
What about Ang Lee directing? Would be a logical choice given that he also directed the best MCU movie.

I like Whedon better when he's dealing with his own original characters, so I'd rather not see his take on the ones we've already met.

I wasn’t serious but only because recently Whedon has been exposed as kind of a creep. I do like his work (especially Firefly) and I would have been all for him coming aboard if he weren’t such a crappy person.

He’s a crappy person who makes crappy-looking movies and TV shows. At least he’s consistent.

Whedon is capable of some pretty great writing, and he's directed a few inspired moments of television (Buffy episodes Hush and Once More With Feeling comes to mind). But his film work, with the exception of Serenity, has been pretty lackluster IMO.

But yeah, since he's a creep and abusive person, **** him.

He’s a writer. That’s it. I refuse to even recognize him as a director, given his contempt for the visual arts. And he’s a dick. So yeah. **** him.

You know who, by all accounts, is apparently a really sweet and great-to-work-with guy, who's also a very talented writer and director? Rian Johnson :p Maybe bring him back to do another movie or three.
