Tay listened closely to the barkeep.

"Well i guess i'll make my way to coursount then." said Tay tipping the barkeep and leaving the cantina. Tay then jumped into his x-wing and set a course for coursant. What is it that Tay would find on the capital of the galaxy? Tay wondered whether he would even be welcome considering that not only was he a bounty hunter but he was also an ex-jedi. he didn't even know how many people would reconginse him for what he was.

    IC: Tendra Nalo-Linrai
Empress Teta, two days before induction ceremony

Tendra brought the family ship, Storm Force, in for a smooth landing at the spaceport, despite the heavy crosswind and torrential rain. Any external onlooker unaware of the pilot's identity would assume that the ship was being piloted by a career professional captain, but the truth was that Tendra's parents had taught her to fly the ship as a teenager, and she loved it enough that she had developed quite the expert hand at it, with the excellent hand-eye coordination and super-fast reflexes honed on the limmie field helping in the cockpit as well. Even during her time playing for the Officers, she had flown the ship all over the place in the offseason to fulfill media obligations and the like, and in retirement, did so year-round, mostly for various backpacking trips and other outdoor adventures on remote planets.

This wasn't even the most difficult landing she had done, but it was in the top five. The most difficult was a landing on Ragoon VI with her Jedi brother, Jado, co-piloting, where a storm much like this one combined with a tight squeeze into the landing zone and a last-minute loss of power. She had managed that landing only with a Force assist provided by Jado.

At any rate, the forecast called for the storm to stop within the next hour. Tendra could have waited in orbit, but she enjoyed the challenge of the landing. The passenger sitting directly behind her, however, did not share that feeling.

"I wish you would have waited for the storm to stop," Tendra's mother, Jaria, said in a tense voice as she released her death grip on the chair.

"Come on, Mom, you know I like the challenge. Besides, if I wasn't confident I could handle it, I would have backed off. I take challenges, but I don't take chances."

Jaria took a deep breath. "If I was younger I might agree, but those days are past me."

Tendra reflected on the fact that her mother had just turned 81 years old. In some societies, like Bakura, that would be middle age, but on Euceron, it was considered elderly. Jaria had recently begun using a walker full-time, and had developed other health problems as well.

"Well, I enjoyed the ride," came a gruff male voice from the back of the cabin. "Good job, sweetheart."

"Thanks, baby," Tendra said back to her husband, Gavyn Linrai, who had just walked in from the small lounge. "Did Gio sleep through it?"

"Yup. That's how you know it was a good landing," Gavyn said with a wink.

Tendra laughed. "Well, let me get my disguise on before we disembark. No sense revealing you before the ceremony."

Aside from Tendra's hyphenated last name, the media knew almost nothing about Tendra's husband except that which was available via public records -- which on Euceron was virtually nothing except a name change order stating the reason as "marriage". Even the marriage license was not a public record on Euceron, meaning that Gavyn's name and the existence of Gio were so far unknown to the media. Euceron also had strong anti-paparazzi laws, allowing public figures to lead private lives in peace.

When Gavyn had expressed a desire to see his wife inducted into the Hall, Tendra had warned him that there would be no way for him to get into the ceremony without his name and relationship being publicly revealed. Together, they had considered that and agreed that it was time to make it known. Gio would also be there (the five-year-old had been coached for months on being quiet through the ceremony and not causing distractions), and they hoped they weren't making a mistake by revealing him as well.

    Red carpet

Tendra emerged from the limo in a stunning blue and white dress, reflecting the Officers' team colors. She turned and helped Gavyn in his formal tuxedo out, and then Gavyn unbuckled Gio and lifted the young boy to his shoulder while Tendra helped her mother up and unfolded her walker. The media could not take enough pictures as the four slowly (at Jaria's pace) made their way up the red carpet before an HSN reporter caught them.

"Tendra, I know this honor means a lot to you, and we will hear from you later in your acceptance speech. However, you have your family here. It's well known that you have fiercely protected their privacy, such that we didn't even know you had a child until just now. Do you feel having your family here makes this moment more special, and also, why this moment to break the privacy that you've fought so hard to maintain?

Tendra considered her reply before answering. "I think the answers to those questions are the same. We all agreed that it wouldn't be right to not have the whole family present for such an important moment. My husband here was the first to suggest it, and in the end it was a joint decision."

"Speaking of your husband, would you want to introduce him?"

"Sure. This is Gavyn Linrai and our five-year-old son Giovanni, although we mostly call him Gio. We only say Giovanni when he's in trouble; right, Gio?"

"I'm a good boy!" Gio announced.

"We'll see about that after you get through the ceremony, okay?" said Gavyn as he ruffled Gio's hair.

The reporter chuckled. "For Gavyn: What does this moment mean to you, seeing your wife immortalized in the Hall of Fame?"

"I only met her after she retired, but I've been a Storm and Officers fan for life. The things she did for not just the Officers and for Euceron, but for limmie as a whole, are well worth recognizing. Little Gio here will be starting Little League soon, and I'm only willing to do that because of the headband thingy, which probably wouldn't exist without her pressure on the League. Her induction will, as you said, immortalize her, and I can't think of a better way to recognize the things that she has done."

"Jaria, same question, but I know you have a different perspective, having raised Tendra and having seen your late husband, Marte, inducted into this same Hall. In that context, what does this moment mean to you?"

"Honestly," Jaria said before taking a deep breath, "it fills a little bit of the hole in my heart that Marte left when he passed to see Tendra follow Marte into the Hall of Fame. One of the last conversations I had with him was about Tendra here. We were discussing her career so far in the Consortium Juniors and he said, quote, 'I would love to see her join me in the Hall of Fame. I hope she does,' end quote. To see one of Marte's last hopes realized tonight completes me to a certain extent."

"Wow. A very rare achievement, with a father/daughter combo in the Hall of Fame. Tendra, we'll see you on the stage."

    Induction ceremony

"Gentlebeings, welcome," the Hall official said, a distinguish Fosh. "Today we honor a being of many accomplishments. She brought the Galactic Cup of Limmie to her homeworld, a major achievement for any being, but one especially poignant given the long journey the Cup took to Euceron. In some ways it could be said that she was the only being who could have done it.

"But her accomplishments go beyond the limmie field. She reminded us of the responsibility that public figures, including athletes, have to make the galaxy a better place. She put her career—and her life—in danger to speak out against sexist attitudes in the Hapes Consortium. Even though she did not achieve change in her time there, I would argue that makes her work all the more valuable. It is only through those who speak up and carry a torch when it’s inconvenient to do so that we achieve the change the galaxy needs.

"During and after her career, she became an advocate for player safety at all levels. I think it’s safe to say that without today’s inductee, the Head BAND-AID would not exist…no matter what one might think of the name the device has been branded with.

"Gentlebeings, limmie fans, it is my pleasure to introduce 305 inductee to the Limmie Hall of Fame, Tendra Nalo."

The assembled audience rose in applause as Tendra climbed up the steps to the stage and accepted the Hall of Fame ring. When the applause died down, she stepped up to the podium.

"Thank you. I'm honored and humbled to be selected for induction into the Limmie Hall of Fame. I was raised by someone all of you know well to give it everything I have and leave it all on the field. For twelve years I did that. To have those efforts counted among the greatest to ever play is... well, an honor I honestly didn't expect. To those who looked at me and saw greatness, and voted to put me here, I give you my deepest gratitude. Thank you to my Mom for being my solid rock in rough times, for always being there when I needed you or just needed a shoulder to cry on. Thank you for my coaches along the way, and to my teammates every season, because this truly is a team sport. Many have said that I brought the Galactic Cup to Euceron, but it was a team effort. One person alone can't do that.

"Two things off the field were touched on, and I'll go into those briefly. Much has been made about the end of my time on Hapes, but as was alluded to, anyone can carry a torch when there is no risk or danger to doing so. But it is when there are risks and dangers, when carrying that torch is inconvenient as the esteemed being said, that one can truly effect real change. Few revolutions have been achieved without beings who took risks to speak out against injustices. I encourage anyone who hears this who is facing injustices and wrongs to speak out, even if it is inconvenient to do so. Take that chance if you can. The more who do so, the more injustices will be righted and the better this galaxy will be.

"With regard to the player safety, when I called out the League in my retirement speech, I wasn't sure if anything would happen. I'm happy to see that it did. The device that was invented, and I refuse to use its given name because it's terrible, but that device is such a massive improvement in player safety, essentially ending concussions. Having suffered seven concussions in my career, I face an uncertain future, but I'm pleased that those who come after me will not have to do the same. To all who worked on inventing and perfecting it, thank you. To those in the League office who took me seriously, thank you as well. To those governments who legislated a mandate for the use of the device, thank you as well. It is through all of those efforts, and only through them, that I am comfortable sending my five-year-old son Gio into Little League next year.

"I can't help but think of my late father at this moment. Dad is in the Hall of Fame himself, and one of his last hopes before he was killed was to see me inducted as well. Dad, if you're out there somewhere seeing this, I did it. Thank you for raising me right, for teaching me the things I needed to know. Thank you for always being a perfect role model, giving me the strength to do my best every day. I already see a lot of you in Gio. And to join Dad in the Hall in limmie immortality... I feel like it fills the hole in my heart you left when you were killed, because now we are reunited forever.

"And finally, to everyone in the media who came out tonight, I thank you as well. Some may say that limmie players are just overpaid celebrities, and there is a kernel of truth to that, but the millions come from the media revenue, and it is because of the media exposure that we players have a platform to push for changes, as I did on Hapes and then again on retirement. Thank you to the media for providing that platform.

"To everyone, thank you again, and I'll see you at LimmieCon."

Elite League Limmie 306: A Family Affair

    Coruscant

The third annual LimmieCon is in full swing. Aficionados of the most popular field sport in the galaxy have converged on the convention center to immerse themselves in all things boloball.

There are booths for all sorts of equipment, rubs, gels, braces, socks, undergarments, training programs, and any other kind of device or gadget that might aid your performance. Stalls are full of rainbows of jerseys for hundreds, thousands of teams from every corner of the galaxy. Nowhere is the breadth of the sport on greater display than in these wares.

Stations host autograph sessions of players and coaches, past and present. Lines wind through paths defined by hovering stanchions and beams of light. The participants at the tables cycle through, some staying for an hour, others seemingly never leaving. (The rumor is that Chandrila Patriot great Reina Kether only left when there were no fans left in line, departing from the usual convention of establishing a point that represented the "end of the line.")

Conferences and leagues from across the galaxy stake their claims to prominence with large pavilions, home to interactive experiences that boost their history and achievements. They provide space for fans to meet and congregate under holo banners of a veritable alphabet soup: ELL, ABC, PLL, SEC, Bak10, Super 16, GCAA, GCLA SFL.

But the grandest outfits are for the Elite League Limmie teams. They are the gundarks in the hall, the powerhouses who get the most HoloNet coverage, pull in the biggest broadcast revenue, attract the best players, and compete for the hallowed Galactic Cup of Limmie.

It is the space for the Bakura Miners who host this great trophy, their sixth championship of the so-called Silver Age of Limmie. Their satisfaction seeps outward through the convention, their confidence in the future veering on smug.

One can almost feel the covetous eyes of the other ELL teams. They are as piercing as turbolasers. The Carratos Pirates, Euceron Officers, Geonosis Gangbusters, Kothlis Spies, Mando'ade Mercs, and Nar Shaddaa Smugglers all envy their opponent--and know that they have as much chance as anyone to bring the Cup home this year.

Throughout the convention center are halls that host panels on topics about every possible interest: who will win what league, how to make sure your kid has fun in Little League Limmie, 10 tips for the future college student athlete, Host Penn: Live from LimmieCon, stories from beer league limmie, how to start your own limmie blog, and on and on.

Back by popular demand are the skills challenges where beings can see how they do in the shoes of a limmie player. Some events even include college and pro players shooting balls for maximum reality.

But more than anything else, LimmieCon is driven by gossip. Who are the Miners losing from their championship roster? Is Alana Kirt going to turn the Mercs around after a rough season? Could new blood unstick the Pirates from their first-round woes? Can the Officers take the next step and make the playoffs? Is Nar Shaddaa a hopeless case, a juggernaut turned into the punching back of the League? Can Kothlis pull together enough magic to make it to their third-straight Final--and actually win this one? Is there any truth to the report UBGC and the College of Deredith & Millicent want out of the Bak10 (and can Kerry Trieste stop it if they do)?

But the question everyone wants to answer is clear: who will be the eighth ELL team in 306? Because knowing Commissioner Fenrir Lokensgaard, they're going to find out here at LimmieCon.

It is into this atmosphere, thick with excitement, that beings like newly-minted Hall of Famer Tendra Nalo-Linrai, team owner Lars Steelhead, and fan Tay Neir walk into when they arrive. The options in front of them are seemingly endless. Where will they begin?

LimmieCon photo op area, second hour of Day 1

Tendra patiently waited while her bodyguard escorted her backstage, having learned her lesson from last year's madness where she encountered that Sandy woman (didn't she have a wave show now?). She set her stuff down in a secured area and took directions from the staff member in charge. Each fan, or group of fans, would have 30 to 45 seconds to interact and take pictures, and a volunteer would be on hand to take the picture if the whole group wanted to be in the shot. She was told that several hundred people had already bought tickets for her specifically, spanning across her four sessions this week. In addition to this, she would have autograph sessions, two panels, and another hour as celebrity coach at the skills challenge arenas.

Tendra reached into her bag, input a lengthy combination, and removed two rings from a secure box. One was silver in color and bore 113 diamonds along with several rubies and emeralds; it was her Galactic Cup championship ring. The other was less shiny but gold in color and bore the logo of the Limmie Hall of Fame. She slipped both onto her hand. She almost never wore either, and had needed to have the championship ring resized last month in preparation for this event, but she felt it appropriate for a fan photo op.

She stepped out into her area and found there was already a line. "Hello! Where are you from?" she would open every conversation with. Surprisingly, very few said Euceron; it seemed she had fans from across the galaxy. There was time for about three or four poses per group if they were efficient. Flashing her rings turned out to be a huge hit with the fans; she even allowed a few of the more respectful fans (especially if they were wearing Officers gear) to wear her championship ring (but not the Hall of Fame ring) for a photo, always under the watchful eye of staff members and the security guard.

As the session went on, she was curious what surprises this year's LimmieCon would hold for her. Last year it was the encounter with Sandy and then the Commissioner springing the news of her Hall of Fame induction on her. What would this year's event bring, if anything?

    Limmiecon

Tay had arrived at Limmiecon. The atmosphere was nothing Tay had ever seen. What was also surprising is that although he was the most famous bounty hunter of his time none stopped him from entering Limmiecon. Tay felt something he had not felt since he left the jedi order. He felt right at home. Tay walked around the limmiecon for ages and was taken back by how big the event was. Tay ran into people that did know he was The Saber. Tay had been around many people even people he has worked for in the past. What was so special about this year?

A protocol droid tottered up to Tay. "Greetings, limmie fan! I am here to help convention guests navigate the many wonderful offerings of LimmieCon," the droid said in Basic. Clearly it had a healthy dose of boosterism programmed in for the event. "If you consult your datapad, you can access a map of the convention center with integrated schedule. However, I can also direct you to some of the most popular destinations and activities, if desired."

Tay considered the droids offer and thought that he could use the extra hand with this whole Limmiecon Bussiness.

"I would like that very much." Replied Tay to the droid. Tay then reached up and removed his mandolorian helmet and carried it under his arm. Tay wondered how big Limmiecon really was, and with the droids help, Tay could find out.

"It would be a pleasure!" The droid brought up a holographic map of the convention center.

"In this area you'll find the finest vendors of limmie merchandise, attire, and equipment. Everything on offer has the official LimmieCon seal of approval. Over here are the team pavilions. I realize this may sound like boasting, but we have areas for all of the most popular limmie teams in the galaxy." They gestured to each area in turn. "Next to the teams are the conference and league spaces.

"In this hall are the skills challenges, one of LimmieCon's most popular experiences. While I have not tried them myself, they've received the highest of reviews from guests in past years. Conveniently nearby are the autograph stations. You can find times for specific individuals in your program.

"This row here houses the halls with the speakers and panels. You can find a full schedule in your datapad program. I dare say that whatever you're interested in hearing, you'll be able to find a session about it. The biggest panel of the day will be Elite League Commissioner Fenrir's Lokensgaard's speech on the state of the ELL.

"And of course you never know who you might run into just walking the convention floor! Why, I heard a rumor last year that Hall of Famer Alana Kirt was on the floor in a fan costume of herself!" The droid nodded towards Tay's Mandalorian helmet. "I imagine encountering the head coach of the Mando'ade Mercs would be a particularly thrilling experience for one such as yourself.

"Is there any further assistance I can render to you?"

“What was that?” Pause. “No, we can’t do that! You want to tank things even more than they already are? No, I can’t sign off . . .”

    Bleep!

“Hang on, I’m getting another call. Putting you on hold.”

“Hello? I’m at LimmieCon right now – where are you? What do you mean you haven’t left your place yet? I’m not doing this thing alone, got it? So you get yourself here or . . .”

    Click!

    Bleep!

"No I'm not going to be able to make the gig tonight! It's LimmieCon - I told you a thousand times! Look, we'll just have to reschedule it - you need the drummer, remember? Just get it done!"

    Bleep!

“Yes, what is it? Oh good – I’ll see you in a short while. Just making my way through the hall here . . . what a crazy scene. Be there in a bit.”

Breathe. This is what it’s like to be the GM of your Dad’s old team. How the hell did he ever deal with this much pressure for SO. MANY. YEEEEARS?

Then the well-timed reminder arrived. It’s not his team anymore, it’s yours. You’ve got the keys, you call the shots. Meredith made that veeeeeeeeery clear last time you two spoke.

This isn’t Hapes anymore! You’ve gotta figure it all out yourself this time!

How do I get myself into these kinds of messes, anyways?

So caught up in the mental turmoil that she almost ran over a guy carrying a tray of nachos. OK, not off to a good start . . . hey, wonder if I can sneak some nachos while I’m here . . .

Everyone had always told Cecilia S’rily that running a Limmie franchise was difficult, but they had always failed to elaborate on just how stressful it could be. Galactic Capital, expectations of dynasties gone by, just making sure she stayed sane . . . all part of the job description for the new GM of the Coruscant Senators. Even the kindly words of advice from longtime neighbor Meredith Chambers-Vayne was of little consolation now that reality had started to sink in that this was all real. This was not Hapes, it was Coruscant – that was a distinction that many beings had rammed into her brain on repeat ever since she had taken the job.

And what a task it was ahead of her. The Senators had not been Elite League material for years, the franchise falling into relative disarray after being sold during CeCe’s teenage years to an investment company more interested in credits than Limmie. Then followed the tear-down of the roster as the pieces of the last Galactic Cup championship team went their separate ways. Feelings were hurt and fans were annoyed, but that was the price of business. Then a trip to the Premier League and that was about it for a franchise that had once been a mainstay of the Elite League.

That should have been the end of the story right there. But as it often was with the S’rily clan, the predisposed “end” rarely turned out that way.

Enter a new owner whom had grown up about as die-hard a fan as the regulars down at Dex’s Diner prior to kickoff. And CeCe knew from first-hand experience how rowdy a bunch that could be, but such was to be expected from an establishment where it was still rumored that there was a game-used jockstrap hanging on the wall of the back room amongst the blitz of other memorabilia. With a new owner in place, there had come another order of business – finding a new GM to bring the team back to prominence.

And when the Senators looked for inspiration, there was again only one place to look – the S’rily clan. Funny how that worked.

Father Gark S’rily, former Senator GM and Limmie Hall of Famer. Also a player in the 273 All-Star Game, but he still feels ashamed about how badly he played.

Mother Me’lin S’rily, former office whiz of the entire franchise and probably the one reason the franchise stayed viable for so long. There are no medals for front office personnel, but there really should be.

Brother Galin S’rily, the Galactic Cup winner whom had finally retired from the team to pursue other opportunities. Now his sister’s right-hand man in the front office. Nothing like sibling tandems in such positions of power.

Brother Ronny, now a famous musician and soon-to-be writer of a new jam track to be played at Senator Stadium come the next season.

Uncle Dirxx Horstse. Senator legend, 2-time Cup Winner, Limmie Hall of Famer, good enough to have his number retired by the franchise for all eternity.

Longtime neighbors Polis Vayne and Meredith Chambers-Vayne. But their story was another tome in itself.

And then there was her, Cecilia S’rily. Daughter of a legend, sister to a Cup winner, and probably the hottest GM candidate in the galaxy coming into the year. Assistant GM in the Hapes Consortium for several seasons and proved her salt many times over with the C-Bucs. When it came time to look for a new opportunity, there was only one place to go – home to Coruscant. But it was not just home. The franchise was literally in her blood. Her father always joked that she would eventually bleed orange instead of crimson blood, and he had not been wrong.

Yet a GM needed a coach, someone she could trust. And when that question was posed, there again was only one answer: D’ana Themyscira. Former captain of the Senators, Cup Winner, hard-nosed winner. If there was a coach who could keep the team focused, it was her. Of course, Galin had helped with that particular recommendation. See, Galin? Even though you can’t be at LimmieCon on time like I asked, you at least did one good thing to make up for it.

But roster questions were for another day. This was LimmieCon – as Cecilia had heard, literally anything could happen there. Any maybe, just maybe, she could get her hands on some nachos.

"No thank you, But I tell you one thing I'm not a mandolorian, just simply a bounty hunter, trying to make my way in the galaxy and possibly the most popular of my time, thanks for your assistance, just one last question where and when will this Elite League Commissioner Fenrir's Lokensgaard's speech be taking place, droid." Replied Tay. Tay had never met a droid that had mistaken him for a mandolorian rather than THE SABER. But Tay thought that came down to how many mandolorians this droid must have seen today. Gender: Female
    Birth year: 289 ABY
    Physical appearance:
    Homeworld: Bakura
Relation to team: Fan, high school limmie player
Brief biography: Aisa had never seen limmie until she played it in fourth grade. Her father was an inveterate lightball junkie, reruns of epic games a staple of their HoloNet viewing. Where her father’s game was governed structure and required equipment, the simplicity of limmie spoke to Aisa. You just needed a ball and something approximating a goal, even if it was a pair of cones like in PE.

When she discovered this backyard game was also one of the most popular sports in the galaxy, she felt something blooming inside her. She wanted—no, needed—to be a part of it.

She had to work on her parents before they’d let her sign up for Little League Limmie. They were concerned it would get in the way of school. Only once she lined up no less than four sets of parents from their temple to attest that sports had helped their kids get into good universities did they agree she could join a team.

Though she’s always felt that she would have been better if she’d started playing when she was younger (like some of her teammates), Aisa is a good player. She isn’t a flashy player, but she knows her role. Before every game her mother tells her to be careful and not get injured. She promises she won’t and has kept that promise (so far).

Though she gets to watch Miner games on the HoloNet (often at her teammates’ homes when games conflict with a big lightball match), Aisa feels like there’s a bigger galaxy out there. Trillions of beings like her who love this beautiful game. She wishes she could meet them all.

So when they announced they were starting LimmieCon, she knew she had to go. Her parents, however, felt differently and for two years she had to read HoloNet coverage of the event instead of going. But now that she’s 17, her father gently persuaded that perhaps it was appropriate for Aisa to go. Mrs. Arain hemmed and hawed before agreeing—but only if she went with Aisa and only if they came right back on the first flight after it finished because everyone knows Coruscanti hotels are so expensive.

Aisa hugged her mother and was certain that, no matter what happened, this was going to be one of the best days of her life.

This was the greatest thing Aisa had ever seen—and she’d only walked ten meters inside.

In every direction was a glorious celebration of the best sport in the galaxy. She must have read the program ten times on the Star Tours flight. Over there were the vendor stalls! And that way were the team pavilions! And that was the corridor to the panel halls! Aisa was so excited she was nearly bouncing up and down.

“There are so many beings here,” Mrs. Arain said. “It’s like they let everyone who wanted to come in.” As if either it was bad. She preemptively fanned herself even though Aisa could still feel a breeze of fresh air coming through the doors behind them.

“I’m sure they’re adhering to code. They know what they’re doing. They have conventions here all the time,” Aisa said, attempting to preempt any roadblocks. She was pretty sure that since they’d already paid for their tickets that her mother wouldn’t declare they should suddenly go home…but she wasn’t going to take any chances on “pretty sure.” “I’m sure things will open up further in.”

“If you say so,” Mrs. Arain replied with all the skepticism of a smuggler being told about the benefits of life as a Jedi Knight. “Should we go to the autographs first? That’s what you’re most excited about.”

That was putting it mildly. Aisa had circled, highlighted, underlined, and done anything else she could to her digital copy of the program when she’d seen the list of beings who would be working the autograph sessions. Because the greatest player to ever set foot on a limmie field was going to be here.

Bree Veers, captain of the Bakura Miners, two-time Galactic Cup champion, and the greatest corner back in the galaxy. (Aisa would argue with all comers about that last point.) And if she did nothing else today, Aisa was going to get her Veers jersey, the jersey she was wearing this very moment, complete with a 305 Galactic Cup Final patch she’d sown on herself, autographed by Bree, no matter what.

    Just not right now.

“Mami, I told you,” Aisa said, trying to keep a groan from entering her voice (and failing miserably), “she doesn’t start doing autographs for hours. We should go see other things now!”

“As you like,” Mrs. Arain said.

But where to begin? Before Aisa could make a decision, her eyes lit upon another convention guest. “Stars, is that The Saber?” she exclaimed.

    “The who?”

“He’s a bounty hunter. I’ve seen him on the HoloNet,” Aisa said. “Let’s go say hi!”

Her mother recoiled. “I know you like keeping up with all those HoloNet celebrities, but I don’t like the idea of meeting a bounty hunter. Who knows what flamethrowers they’re hiding.”

“Mami, he used to be a Jedi. He’s helped a lot of beings. I’m sure he’ll be nice. Besides, he’s not going to roast us in the middle of LimmieCon. I mean there’d be too many witnesses,” Aisa said. She hoped that last bit sounded convincing.

“Well…that is a good point…” Mrs. Arain admitted.

That was all Aisa needed. She took her mom’s hand and hurried towards the armored bounty hunter. “Excuse me,” she said, and then suddenly realized who she might be talking to, “but…uhhhh…are you The Saber? Not that everyone in Mandalorian armor looks alike, but you look a lot like him.”

Tay was just checking his comlink just in case R5 contacted him when he could've sworn he heard someone say excuse me. He turned and saw that there was a girl with what seemed to be her mother.

Tay was glad that someone seemed to recognise him. He then replied to the young girl.

"Indeed I am what can I do for you, it's nice to see that young beings such as yourself pay attention to the HoloNet." Tay then reached up and removed his mandolorian helmet to reveal the former jedi knight beneath. He then put the helmet under his arm and awaited the young being's reply, he could also sense that the mother was uneasy about her daughter meeting a bounty hunter.

"Wow! No one back home will believe that I met you!" Aisa exclaimed. "So you're a limmie fan? Who's your team?" She couldn't remember where The Saber was from, but that might not matter. He'd probably been all over the galaxy. Maybe his favorite team was from a planet he'd visited and really liked. Maybe his homeworld didn't even have a limmie team. Aisa wondered what team she would have wound up being a fan of if there were no Miners.

"Yes I am a Limmie fan, always have been, as for my team, I don't currently have one but I do know that my homeworld has just started one so hopefully in this season." Tay replied to the young girl that stood before him.

"What's your name by the way?" Asked Tay. He felt awkward not knowing people's names but he at least would get to know this girl's name. Tay then sensed that another Neir was amongest them when he turned he saw one of his old friends from their homeworld, she was walking towards the trio.

"Why should this come as a surprise?"

"And of course in the beautiful game near and dear to all of our hearts, LimmieCon is ongoing, and we've sent the one and only Liz out to cover the festivities there..."

Relation to Team: Host of the Nar Shaddaa Smuggler's weekly sports show, "Cutting Edge."

It's not easy living in the shadow of the media mogul known as Omar Mosk. A staple of the nightly sporting scene on Vertical City News for decades, and a workaholic by trade, it is a small wonder when Omar Mosk found the time to have a child. Enter Cameron, Cam to his friends, Mosk. It took this young man years to carve out his own name, his own ideas and influence, from the titanic shadow of his father. Years of hard work have finally paid off.

    Literally.

Cam just got the call a month ago that he has been hired on as the host of the official Nar Shaddaa Smugglers sports show Cutting Edge. A nod to the band that wrote the famous song 'C'mon Feel the Noise' that once blared loudly in the stadium to celebrate points scored amongst other things.

    The big time is now.

    The lights are on.

And the money, booze, and women flow like nothing else.

Cam just hopes he can keep it all together to provide the best damn sports show the Vertical City has seen in years.

A show that may one day rival his father's....

Tonight's gonna blow your mind, baby.....

Cam couldn't shake off the words of the escort he'd hired to accompany him to LimmieCon. She'd gotten in his head. She was exquisite. A work of art. The real deal. And she was expensive. She cost a lot of credits. Perhaps there would be more there tonight. She seemed interested. He was interested. Magic might happen.

    It better.

Cam parked his slick new rental sports speeder in the lower garage. The cherry red gave it away as a fast ride. The kind that prowled the streets of Coruscant picking up certain customers. Picking up trouble. Living the fast lane. No thought of yesterday or tomorrow. Only now.

His ears perked up as he activated the remote locking device. A resounding whoop whoop greeted his ears as he felt his escort take his arm. The pair looked like they belonged in a night club. Not a sporting event. He didn't mind. Nothing was going to stop him tonight.

Cam entered LimmieCon ushered in by a night guard. One flick of his media pass told the guard everything he needed to know. He belonged. Cam immediately searched the hallways like a feral vornskyr looking for its first kill. There was blood in the water here. Stories to be told. Experiences to be had. He glanced over at his escort who smiled ever so slightly.

    Maybe even some fun.

"Look alive," Cam said with a grin as the pair parted the double doors of LimmieCon and entered Hall H just in time to hear the commissioner speak.

Cam whipped out his recording device for sound bites to use on his show. There was plenty of material here. Good stuff. The kind of juice that kept the blood of the league flowing. The fans satiated. The credits flowing.

It was nearly time. Nearly time to be the very thing he exercised every single day.

    A heartless bastard.

"Dank Ferick." The now third year forward exclaimed, rushing up the steps of the convention center. She was very very late for her appointments. She was supposed to be in an autograph line, taking pictures with fans, man the Pirates booth, and be a representative for her team. Unfortunately she had spent most of last night watching her brother's lightball game. And of course it went to extra innings. He played really well, at least from what the commentators said, and the stats they pulled up. He pulled off something called a 6-4-3 double play. She didn't know what that all meant, all she saw was him diving for the ball then, while still in the air flicked it to second base, and the second base player hurled it to first and the opposing team was put away.

He was all over the field, snagging balls out of the air, getting under hits that no one was near, and hurling balls across the field to get the runner out. She couldn't deny that he was amazing, both on defense and offense he was working. Though something worried her, the commentators mentioned that this would be his last year on Carratos. He had said he was declaring for the MLL: Major League Lightball. Not that he told her, hadn't even called her to say he'd done that, or that he planned to do that. There weren't any MLL teams on Carratos, not even minor league teams. Carratos was just not a lightball planet. If he was drafted…heck it wasn't an if, not when he he was already so good. When he got drafted, he would be heading away from his home, away from her.

It was eating her, the fact that she hadn't talked with Mech, not even tried to call him in so long. Her heart didn't want her to leave it like that, she loved her brother, wanted to patch things up with him…and this would be her last chance to do so.

As she entered the hall, got her pass and pulled up her datapad trying to find where she would be needed next. Thankfully, or unfortunately, there was nothing on her schedule. With nothing to do right away she made her way to the Pirates' Booth, finding Zar, it was easier to call him than then Logan…given the confusion with the coach at some times, and Sam, a veteran half forward.

"Finally you show…" Zar replied, with a bit of a glower. There was some friction between her and the human, they were fighting for the same position.

"Well, better late than never." Sam followed up with an easy smile. She smiled back and started moving on to other booths. She made her way to the fractured minor and smaller leagues. Buried somewhere behind the college leagues was the NCL, the Namadii Corridor League. It was the old home of the Pirates, the league where the team started before getting called up. She didn't recognize the players at the booth, though their name plates said they were the last year's League MVP, a miralan woman named Kesla Ven, and Rookie of the Year, a twi'lek man no older than 17 Udina Trunk.

"You get a little lost?" Ven asked with a sly smile on her face.

"Kinda on purpose." Jay smiled, "Just walking around taking in the sights."

"I know we're quite the sight huh." The MVP smiled, "We're still here, still playing."

    "That's good."

"Yeah, we're lucky we still make enough to focus on Limmie, and well, we're focusing on bringing in younger players."

"Like me…" Udina spoke up his voice making Jay believe he was even younger than he looked. "My mom had to come with me on this trip…she's getting pictures with the ELL players right now."

    "Good thing you're supervised."

"Ehhh, I'm a good kid." He gave a smile with some mischief behind his eyes. Behind them was a screen showing some highlights of the two players at the table, even a rough tackle given by Ven to Udina.

"That must have hurt." Jay said looking at the screen. They looked good, played well, but it was hard to tell if they would do well in the ELL.

"Had to get introduced to the league some time." Udina said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"It wasn't that bad." Ven added.

    "Still got a bruise."

"Well you learned not to come into my zone."

"Lesson learned." The young player rubbed his chest.

"Well you look like you're all having fun."

"Yeah, I'll never see the ELL but, I'm still having a good time." Ven said.

"Hey speak for yourself," Udina shot back, "I have a chance."

"That's if they look our way kid. The big teams have college players, or their own farm teams."

    "There's still a chance."

"There's always a chance…" Jay replied, if she could make the team, and her brother make it to the big leagues, so could this kid.

Before her mom could stop her (probably with some concern about being known to a bounty hunter—as if that would make her more likely to one day have a bounty on her head, which was preposterous), Aisa said, “Me? I’m Aisa. And, uh, if it turns out you need a second team, can’t go wrong with the champs! The Miners will take all the fans they can get.”

“Aisa, let’s let Mr. Saber get back to his day. I’m sure he has plenty he’d like to do at LimmieCon too,” Mrs. Arain gently suggested.

“Live from LimmieCon, it’s me, Horst Penn of…Bet! Hey Bet! Did we figure out a name for the show?...But I came up with a great one! Don’t tell me they shot down The Penn Is Mightier!...What do you mean we’ll talk about it later?

“Anyways, gentlebeings of the wave, it is popping here at LimmieCon! I really think the event is hitting its stride. Mainly in the concession department. I just had the Rodian flobgoo and—what?...Food is the subject of the next panel? Well I’m definitely staying for that one!...You mean I have to talk about something else now? But everything else is way more boring!

“OK, so as part of this live broadcast, I’m hosting a state of broadcasting in limmie discussion. I know, it’s very meta. Actually, I don’t know. Trixie keeps trying to explain to me what meta is and I zone out and go on FaceSpace instead.

“So I’m just going to get right to it! Live here with me at LimmieCon is the host of Cutting Edge, the official show of the Nar Shaddaa Smugglers, Cam Mosk. Cam, glad to have you with us. I think I speak for many of us of a certain age who know your family through your dad, a defining voice in limmie for decades. He called some of my games and even though he wasn’t always a fan I was always honored to have him describe my work on the field.

“We’ve also got live here in the studio the being who I think is one of the best in the business…even if I don’t exactly know what she does. And, come to think of it, I’ve never seen her in person, so for all I know I’ve got some random LimmieCon attendee sitting next to me! But let’s hope I’ve got Liz of the Rancor Pit here today! And, I guess this is how we’ll know if this is really Liz, but I’m told she’s been able to arrange a live link with the Pit themselves for today’s panel!

“Hey Bet! Did anybody think about the fact we put Smugglers and Mercs in the same panel and I’m sitting between them?...You did and I said, ‘It’d be fine’? Bet, when are you going to realize I can’t be trusted to make these kinds of decisions?”

“If everyone could wait for a moment, we’re just getting the next holo op set up,” a LimmieCon volunteer said, holding up the line. Tendra Nalo-Linrai was just about at the end of her time. She might think that they were providing a graceful exit for her without being mobbed by fans, but instead of someone shepherding her out, they were bringing someone in.

Another volunteer led Jay Chu-ni into the photo area. Before Tendra could move away, the volunteer said, “We thought we’d do a little crossover, one of those limited time surprises to help boost the ‘you should have been there’ nature of the convention. Get beings interested in coming next year because you never know what could happen.”

“The next 20 groups in line get their holo with not just Hall of Famer Tendra Nalo, but with up-and-coming star Jay Chu-ni of the Carratos Pirates!” the first volunteer announced to the line, causing several beings to go wild with excitement.

Except for the first being in line, who looked like an eopie caught in the headlights: Aisa Arain.

Though it might seem like the team and conference pavilions were the largest part of LimmieCon, it only had that distinction thanks to the number of exhibitors. By footprint, the largest portion of the convention was dedicated to the skills challenge arenas.

    There were six in total:
    • Agility
    • Shooting
    • Penalty shots
    • Tackling
    • Passing
    • Goalkeeping
New to LimmieCon this year were the leaderboards, which cycled through various age groups, showing performance stats for each arena with a total combo score if someone did all six. The official LimmieCon datapad app even allowed you to associate your score with your account and upload more data if you wanted to appear in the app-specific regional rankings. Prizes were available, ranging from random swag for completing all six events to entries in raffles for trips to things like the GCAA and Galactic Cup Finals. Little League Limmie had even partnered with the event to provide special kid-friendly experiences for beings who played LLL, like scaled back challenges that better fit their physical abilities.

But those were just for the amateurs. There were special boards for pro and college limmie players, a way of encouraging them to strut their stuff for the fans. It had already enticed some players to take part, often teaming up with another player to banter with as they went through the challenges (much to the delight of the observers).

This had also attracted some of the scouts and team staffs at LimmieCon. It never hurt to keep your eyes open for talent. Perhaps this was why Cecilia S’rily was here. Or maybe she wanted to put her name on the Coaches and Team Staff leaderboard.

Already the events had attracted a few celebrities who were at LimmieCon. Some of them, like one actor famous for their action holos, had performed well. (One of their peers had surprisingly bombed, which might not be greater for their career.) One off-duty member of the Senatorial Guard received a rousing ovation for putting up a score that would have been good enough to make the pro board.

But what did Tay Neir, who stood watching the guard’s performance, not that far from Ms. S’rily, think about that?

Aisa knew what her mom was about to say, so she jumped in preemptively. “Thank you!” She handed her datapad to her mom to take the holo. Aisa smiled as she leaned towards The Saber for the shot.

“Have a great day!” Aisa said to the bounty hunter before leading her mom away. “Thanks again!”

“Aisa, you should have told him he got your name wrong,” Mrs. Arain said. It almost sounded like a scolding.

This happened all the time. Aisa was used to it. In fact, her chemistry teacher had mispronounced her name for an entire semester until one of their fellow teachers had happened to hear it and corrected them. Though Aisa had stopped fighting it, her best friend, Masika, did not take it lying down. When they had classes together immediately corrected substitute teachers.

Aisa thought fast. “Mom, you’re the one who didn’t want me to be on the sensors of a big-time bounty hunter. So isn’t it good he doesn’t actually know my name?”

She had to hide her pleasure at her mom’s reaction. Clearly she’d come up with a good argument from the way Mrs. Arain had to take a moment to compose a reply. “Well…it’s the principle of the thing,” she said, but they both knew it was a weak counterargument.

Aisa knew better than to gloat. “Come on, let’s go see the Miners’ booth!”

“Booth” was not sufficient to describe what they found. They might be a team with a self-imposed salary cap in one of the smaller attendance markets in the League, but stars had the Miners sprung for a great space at LimmieCon. Thick, dark blue carpet covered their space with large holo displays of the starting roster. There was a large official merch stall inside with lots of 305 Galactic Cup Champion stuff. A section touted Bakuran tourism for beings interested coming and seeing a game (assuming you were willing to pay top credit to buy tickets on the resale market, which was about the only way to go to a game these days). There were even some interactive holos where you could pretend you were taking a vid or a holo with one of the players. Naturally there was one for Veers, but Aisa was holding out for the real thing later today.

But all of that paled compared to the centerpiece of the Miners’ sprawling presence at LimmieCon: the actual Galactic Cup of Limmie. Who would buy a t-shirt of it when you could see the real thing?

Aisa waited her turn to take a holo with it. Though the Arains lived near Salis D’aar, her parents hadn’t allowed her to skip school to go to the victory parade last year. It had been so unfair, especially when it felt like half the school had missed class for it, but now everyone would flip out when they saw her, Aisa Arain, with the Galactic Cup on her social feed.

When Aisa got to the front of the line, she forgot why she was there. She was overcome with the fact she was standing a quarter of a meter, maybe less, away from the greatest trophy in the galaxy. Facing her was the latest engraving.

    BAKURA MINERS 305

It took her breath away. And once she’d skimmed over the owners and management, first in the line of players, there it was.

    BREE VEERS CAPT.

Aisa’s fingers started drifting towards the polished silver surface. She could almost feel the etched surface already…

    “Whoa, hold up there.”

She snatched her hand back, centimeters from the surface.

“Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry. I just got carried away,” Aisa said, straightening. She could feel her face turning red with embarrassment. She’d almost touched the Galactic Cup. How stupid was she? She was probably going to get thrown out of LimmieCon. Maybe banned from the sport entirely. And the flight back with her mom—that was not going to be fun.

The words had come a Human female in a Miners team polo shirt said. She smiled. She looked vaguely familiar with her rich brown hair, but she definitely wasn’t a player. She was too old for that, but she had an easy, relaxed presence about her, which was weird. It was like being around the Galactic Cup was normal for her.

“I’m so sorry,” Mrs. Arain said, barreling forward. “I’m sure my daughter didn’t mean any harm, even if she should know better.” Oh no. It was already starting. Aisa wished she could pull her jersey over her head and hide, but then she’d be the weird, headless girl of LimmieCon and she’d probably become a meme.

“Nobody’s in trouble. You’re allowed to touch the Cup. It’s just you gotta be careful. Do you play?” the Human asked Aisa.

“I…yeah, I do,” Aisa stuttered, unsure of what was happening.

“So like I said, you can touch the Cup, but I don’t recommend it,” the Human continued. “It’s a superstition. If you touch it, you’ll never win it.”

    “That’s a thing?” Aisa exclaimed.

“There are so many superstitions. Like back when they had conferences some players didn’t want to touch the conference championship trophies. Though Alana never believed in that one and that turned out OK for her.”

“Aisa is just a high school players. I don’t know if she needs to worry about that,” Mrs. Arain said. Aisa would have been upset about her mom’s lack of confidence, but she was right. She was a middling defender. It wasn’t like she was ever going to play for the Galactic Cup.

“You never know.” The Human shrugged good-naturedly. “My philosophy is don’t close off any avenues before you have to. But you can absolutely take a holo with it. In fact, I think it’d be a crime if you didn’t since you got the championship patch on your jersey. Nice work there, by the way.”

Aisa’s chest suddenly swelled with pride. “Thanks!”

“I know good stitching when I see it. My mom thought when you live out near the mountains you should know how to do things like that. But enough about that. Let me have your datapad and I’ll take a few shots for you.”

Aisa handed it over and posed with a giant grin in front of the Cup. The Human positioned Aisa so you could see the 305 Cup inscription next to her and took three or four holos to make sure there was a good one. She even encouraged Mrs. Arain to stand next to Aisa for a few shots. Had it just been Aisa asking, she probably wouldn’t have agreed to it, but good manners won out.

“So, you going to load your datapad up with holos with players? There are going to be some great beings available today,” the Human asked.

“Oh, no. I didn’t get tickets for that,” Aisa said. That was OK though.

The Human shook her head. “I know they’re trying to do crowd control with the tickets, but it just seems silly to me to make it so hard for beings to do fun stuff. If I were running this thing…” She gave a brief sigh. “Hey, mind if I get into your LimmieCon app for a second?”

“Uh…OK…” Aisa said. She generally didn’t let anyone else into her datapad (there was a lot of private stuff in there), but this being probably wouldn’t have asked if she wanted to steal Aisa’s data.

The Human swiped and tapped a few times before handing the datapad back. “Have a great rest of your day!”

Aisa and Mrs. Arain moved away from the Cup to make room for others before Aisa looked at her LimmieCon app. There was a notification icon on the reservations tab that was new. Aisa opened it.

    “Oh my stars!” Aisa exclaimed.

“What is it?” Mrs. Arain asked.

Aisa turned her datapad so her mom could see. There was now a ticket on her account for a good-any-time admission to the player holo experience. “Mami! She gave me a ticket for the holo sessions! These things sold out weeks ago!”

“What? No. That’s so nice of her! We need to say thank you,” Mrs. Arain looked around to find the Human, but she was no longer near the Galactic Cup, lost in the shuffle of LimmieCon. Aisa couldn’t find her either.

Aisa consulted the schedule in the app. “Mami, look, Astra Sixtrees is going to be taking holos soon!” They could probably squeeze it in before Veers started doing autographs. “Let’s go now!”

Minutes later, Aisa was in line for the holo experience. As the only one with a ticket, Aisa was in line solo. Her mom made her promise she’d wait at the end if she finished early. Mrs. Arain was going to get something to eat. She’d heard other beings talk about these “nachos.” She was skeptical, but thought she should take a look at them anyways.

While she stood in line, Aisa flipped through the news on the LimmieCon app. Some of the teams were releasing updates as LimmieCon exclusives before they went out to broader distribution channels (at least officially—plenty of social feeds were already obsessing over some of the news). The Miners were no exception and their updates were about what fans like Aisa had been waiting to hear for months.

    The roster.

Coming off the heels of a championship, everyone was sure that the Miners would lose at least one of their seven free agents. The question was who.

Harle Quinn will return to the Miners on one-year deal. Quinn: “I’ve still got more in me.” Aisa had thought for sure Quinn would retire, especially since she was now a sitting senator. She wondered if Quinn took a big discount to keep playing. For a pro limmie player she wasn’t a spring Endorian chicken anymore.

Goalkeeper Runi Meshurok gets three-year deal after leading the ELL in points allowed. Yeah, but she never did pull off that shutdown despite all those awesome games. Still, Aisa couldn’t fault the Miners for keeping her. Good goalkeepers were valuable.

Captain Bree Veers signs new two-year contract after leading the Miners to a second championship in her captaincy. Thank the stars. Aisa had been worried that the team might not be willing to pay Veers given that she was in the latter half of her career.

Rose-Lynn Hypertravels gets a massive deal with the Miners: locks in for the next five-seasons. Whoa. That was huge. Hypertravels was in her prime. The Miners must have really liked what she brought to the field. They almost never handed out contracts that long.

Before Aisa got through all the Miners posts, a new one popped up that she opened immediately. BBC Sports: Kass Kirt signs a six-year contract extension with the Miners. “Holy baby Grogu!” Aisa exclaimed. Per BBC Sports host Sandy Starkrimson, who’s broken the story, Miners reportedly “didn’t want to mess around with even the chance Kirt would go into free agency at the end of the season.” Starkrimson reports that Kirt got “Glencross money.” Aisa was pretty sure they were going to call it “Kirt money” now.

The other news was tame by comparison. Bast Amun with a one-year contract. Alexa Superspy going to free agency (Aisa was sad to see her go, but clearly they didn’t have the credits to pay her after shelling out for Meshurok, Veers, and Hypertravels—not to mention Kirt starting in 307) along with Koryaka Konstantos (definitely the least important piece of the Miners’ defense last season and the most-easily replaced).

Aisa was still spinning from the news when she looked up and found she was at the front of the line. But Astra Sixtrees wasn’t there.

She was being directed to step forward so she could take a holo with not just one, but two players. A current member of the Pirates that Aisa remembered seeing play full forward (she remembered because Veers had covered her and Aisa always watched what Veers was doing during games) and Hall of Freaking Famer Tendra Nalo.

As Aisa’s legs moved without her brain functioning, she stammered out a, “H-hi there.”

OOC: Note that Superspy and Konstantos are now in the free agent list for anyone interested in signing them.

    IC: Tendra Nalo-Linrai

Tendra smiled casually at the young lady who was clearly star-struck. "Hello there. I don't bite. Do you play limmie? You look like you do. Let me guess... midfielder, maybe?"

Tendra began positioning herself for the holo shot, expecting the young lady to do the same, maybe even her mom. Tendra had her two rings (championship and Hall of Fame) clearly visible to the camera as she did; there was no way the young lady would not see them, especially with the light reflecting off of their polished surfaces and gemstones.

    Jay Chu-ni
    LimmieCon

Jay's datapad pinged telling her where to be for the next event. Though as she walked towards the photo-op, her head turned at the skills competition. There was an itch in her to get involved to put her agility on show. Though she saw a boy in a Ot'tau Limmie Club shirt showing off in the shooting challenge. She met his eye and nodded her head with a smile. It was good to see other kids from her neighborhood were getting a chance. Arriving at her spot she smiled waving at the next being in line. She knew this was part of the job interacting with fans. Though she did feel just a little out of place next to a hall of famer, and Cup winner. But she wasn't too starstuck...a little, but not a lot.

"I do bite...Not much though." Jay then instantly regretted these words but she couldn't take them back. She was trying to be funny but, it didn't come off like that. She tried to pose to try and cover her embarrassment.
