Its not even released in cinema. Why would they announce a stream release to corrupt their box office a month before the actual release?

oooh boot up the Disney plus app and there's a "special look" with a feel good BTS montage and a full clip from Dial of Destiny of Indy and Helena bickering during a street chase. Pretty fun.

Because it’s an actively stupid business decision?

“Please pay $10 to see this movie in theatres, or you can just wait until this specific date and watch it at home.”

The Fugitive II would have been cool, but they decided to do it without Harrison Ford.

A cool twist on the Fugitive franchise would have been Sam Gerard being the one that's framed and him being on the run.

For comparison Indy 4 made 101 million on its opening weekend back in 2008.

Smells like a Solo 2.0 is coming for LFL/Disney, since this movie needs to make 2.5 times (rule of thumb) its production budget ($300Millionen ) to break even.

Eh that seems a little low. I've heard 100 to 120 million. maybe somewhere in between. 80 million? Esp if the 2nd wave of reviews are "it's no so bad."

I really think that the movie has a problem with a younger audience. I was born in 86 and the Indy movies where of course the next I viewed after discovering SW. But the movies are "old" nowadays. I have young co workers here, in the early twenties, who have not even seen iconic 90's movies because they consider them old. They have not seen Pulp Fiction, 5th element, Se7en and so on. Not to talk about movies like Rambo or Rocky.

The Gen Z generation is...unique. While my generation embraced those "classics" Gen Z doesnt even has heard of them.

I'm glad he is done since I don't want to see a movie about Indy past his 70s.

However I think there is more story to tell film or tv wise. Just because Harrison is done with the role, doesn't mean we can't see more Indy content, and I prefer not to reboot.

Especially if this film turns out to be mediocre, it shouldn't be the last Indy content ever.

I wonder if the Indy franchise would allow for animation. You could get a voice actor whom sounds a lot like Harrison. Maybe make it an anthology series. For live action, I wouldn't mind seeing a 1920's Indy. The roaring 20s has not been explored yet in live action for the franchise. I think the Young Indiana Jones series ends in 1920.

WW2 is such a gold mine for adventures about Indy, it shouldn't just be kept as the opening intro in Dial of Destiny. We already saw how WW1 affected Indy, lets then see more of what he was doing in the 1940s.

The farther in the past movies are, the fewer of them are remembered. I embraced all that eighties stuff when I was growing up in the 2000s, but that was when it was just twenty years old and still cast a huge shadow over the pop cultural landscape. I was a lot less connected to sixties movies, and even less to those older than that, even though I watched my fair share, and I've probably missed quite a few "older" movies that my elders growing up in the eighties would have considered essential.

We hosted some Zoomer exchange students (high school age) this past year. They and their friends all knew Star Wars, but none of them had seen Indiana Jones (they watched it with us, thought it was... fine?) Can't blame them; most of them are too young to even remember Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and that one already kind of fell flat. There were a lot of people who liked it well enough, but it didn't make Indiana Jones a fresh and relevant pop culture icon again like Batman Begins did for Batman or Casino Royale did for James Bond - it came off much more like a pure nostalgia item aimed mostly at older generations.

This is not a commentary on the quality of the movies/art as much as it is on marketing.

I teach middle school kids, most of them aren't terribly familiar with James Bond either. Why? Because James Bond hasn't been aimed/marketed towards kids for a long time. I've noticed now that Disney/Lucasfilm is pushing on Indiana Jones, these same kids have been chatting/asking about Indiana Jones.

The thing with SW is that it had always new content since 1997 for a new generation: SE, PT, TCW, ST and so on. Indy had nothing since 2008 beside a Wii game and 2 Lego Games. Nothing else. Its not in the common mind for many people. This new movie, the fare well for Indy and Ford I'd consider a movie for people 30+ and fans of the IP. There wont be that many people under 30 who will see it. Mostly it will be if parents go to see it with their kids because the parent wants to watch.

I really hope it will get some momentum and have a good box office. For Ford, for LFL and for the IP. There (hopefully still) a game in the making from Bathesda and there were rumors that there is a show in the making. Would be a shame if it all would be cancled because of a disappointing BO performance of Indy 5.

My guess is it will make enough to avoid being a bomb, but will be considered a box office disappointment. It's an expensive movie.
