Buff, NY “Superheroes Save Skateland” - April 12

Hi everyone!

For those unaware, Skateland Family Fun Center in Lockport, NY has fallen on some hard times financially. A looming city tax may see them closing their doors in the next 2 months if they don’t get enough business.

The owners and staff were very gracious hosts for us recently when I filmed there for my web series “Failed First Dates.” With so few roller skating rinks left in the ANY area, I wanted to do something to help them be able to drum up business and keep their doors open. Hence, I am organizing an event for them entitled “Superheroes Save Skateland”. I've been hammering out the details with the owners the last few days, and here's what I've got:

WHERE:
Skateland Family Fun Center
1109 Lincoln Avenue
Lockport, NY 14094

WHEN:
Saturday, April 12
9am - 12:30pm
(Event Itself: 10am to 12pm)

WHAT:
A handful of superhero volunteers spend one morning entertaining kids and families, encouraging more to come on out and spend a morning enjoying Skateland’s roller skating, inflatables, arcade and laser tag attractions.

Full disclosure, I am looking for other volunteers on top of North Ridge members. But I know you guys know how to work at events like this, and can definitely help make it a success. I know some folks here have non-Star Wars hero costumes from other franchises. While I've made a pretty straightforward "no horror" policy (since the event's for little kids), I am DEFINITELY open to other characters (for example, I hear Anna has Wonder Woman now?) Just drop a line if you want to do non-Star Wars so we can make sure it lines up with the theme.

Along those lines, a table setup and non-costumed volunteers won't be needed for this event.

Any costumers who feel comfortable to roller skate in their costume are welcome to spend some of the time roller skating. (Skate at your own risk, of course. No one get injured before SWN! )

There will be a place to change that is away from the general public. A Skateland staff member will oversee to ensure personal possessions are safe at all times. They also have lockers available for a quarter apiece if you really want to lock something up. Pitchers of water will also be available to help keep costumed volunteers hydrated.

EDIT: I realize I didn't make it very clear. Unless you have a hero costume on top of your Star Wars gear, I AM looking for you guys for Star Wars costumes.

This sounds like a wonderful event, Brian and I would love to help out. I will let you know ASAP. Right now my April calendar is in a holding pattern but will hopefully have a more concrete schedule by the end of next week. ;-)

Did something happen to your Jedi? Because I am looking for Star Wars characters also.

I do not see any reason why I cannot make this event. Count me in as an Imp Officer.

 

I'm tentative. I don't know my work schedule yet. I should know by the end of the month if I can make it.

I know dan touched base with you, but with some tweaking we can upgrade our hawk man and hawk girl. As we do not have starwars get ups yet. We will get back to you in a week or so for approval if they are up to par.
