So is that right when Lower Decks ends or we get a dark week?

I skimmed through the cast read of sweet sorrow and there was some fun previz and storyboard stuff but Mount being completely blank reading as Pike it while the rest of the cast was really acting it up was kind of disconcerting, kinda took the fun out of it for me at least.

Based on my math, Lower Decks should end on October 8, meaning Discovery season 3 starts up exactly a week later.

If not for production pandemic delays, we'd probably have gotten PIC S2 starting almost immediately after DSI S3 finished as well.

That, and I believe the Section 31 series was supposed to start shooting this summer as well, which could have had it ready to air right after PIC S2.

CBS needs fall programming (because nothing is ready duh!) so Discovery S1 is airing on Thursday @ 10 CBS! the power block of Big Brother, Love Island and Star Trek Discovery. As Tilly said in S1 (Which will certainly be bleeped) "You guys this is so %$@$ing cool!" Klingon sex probably to be edited out. (although that might go well with Love Island and Big Brother)

    Thursday, Sept. 24
    8 p.m.: Big Brother
    9 p.m.: Love Island
    10 p.m.: Star Trek: Discovery

CBS in May announced that its traditional lineup — featuring staples like NCIS, Young Sheldon and Blue Bloods — would be "for fall" though no premiere dates were attached. "We are certainly hopeful we can get into production this summer and we are hopeful that these shows will premiere in the fall," Kahl told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. "I don't anticipate a traditional Premiere Week where 90 percent of our shows start the third week of September; I think that's highly unlikely. At the same point, we are hopeful these shows will premiere at some point this fall."

CBS, NBC and ABC all plotted a business as usual approach when they announced their fall schedule plans in May and June. Multiple sources at the time told THR that the strategy was designed to better position the networks with the advertising community as original programming like mega-hit NCIS is certainly more attractive than such "gently used" programming as Star Trek: Discovery and Manhunt. Meanwhile, Fox and The CW delayed the returns of their scripted originals to 2021 and debuted schedules with acquired content including programming from CBS All Access and DC Universe. "Gently used" programming — aka originals that aired on lesser-watched platforms that may not have cut through — have become increasingly valuable given the dire situation the broadcast networks find themselves in as the pandemic wiped out traditional production schedules.

Two new S3 cast members announced.

Blu del Barrio will play a non-binary character named Adira, with "an intelligence & confidnece well beyond their years", while Ian Alexander plays Gray, a transgender character "eager to fulfill his lifelong dream as a Trill host".

Very interesting to see the Trills being brought into the DIS/TOS era (if Discovery herself returns from the future, of course) or the opening of the possibility of bringing familiar knowledge (if not actual familiar characters) into the show (if Discovery stays in the far future) via the symbiote.

New S3 trailer- a little over a month to go!

EDIT- Interesting that there's a new promotion logo style for the series.

"The Federation gave us the resources and the mandate to solve the biggest, most troublesome problems in the galaxy."

I love the notion that they seem to be exploring "Federation building" as a premise here. Something that I really wished Voyager had pursued (the episode "Alliances" teased that direction, but never followed through).

One reason why I'm enjoying DIS as much as I am- each season seems to actually focus (or, at the very least, feature in a prominent way), aspects of Star Trek that are either familiar but are executed in unique ways (time travel, mirror universe, AI uprising) or aspects of Trek that are there but have never been truly given the spotlight (the "go science" engineering team spotlights, Federation building, procedural dramatics [evacuations, battle prep, etc]) or have only been given so in single episode examples in the past as opposed to larger stretches of a season, etc.

Sure, there have been some bumps along the way, but I feel like it's almost catering to underserved segments of the fandom.

Saw the non-region locked trailer, Burnham's "Yessss!" was really heartwarming. Less mopey more happy Star Trekin' please. Although a dystopian destroyed Federation may be a bit hard to get fun times from, but I think it'll be Disco will be spreading Federation joy and cheer throughout the galaxy. Also Stammets being snippy and Captain Saru. Mirror Phillipa can be off on her angsty dark side-quest action.

Already posted it in the other Trek thread, but i'm almost 100 percent sure, Season 3 is connected to DS9.

In the trailer we learn that the galaxy got devastated because of an event called "The Burn". Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Let's look at two quotes from DS9:

    From "The Reckoning":

"Winn: Shabren's Fifth Prophecy. The rebirth. If the Evil One is destroyed, it will bring a thousand years of peace. The Golden Age of Bajor. "

    From "What You Leave Behind":

"Dukat: Did you really think the Pah wraiths would choose you to be their Emissary? Soon the Pah wraiths will burn across Bajor, the Celestial Temple, the Alpha Quadrant"

Maybe the Pah Wraiths finally got out of the fire caves and their revenge in the 31rst or 32nd century...

Considering the nature of the Prophets and Pah Wraiths relationship to time, it might have happened as a result of the temporal cold war...

    Other possible hints:

    - Alex Kurtzman about the state of the galaxy:

"What happened to the Federation didn’t happen because of the Federation collapsed in on itself because of disagreement or strife. That’s not what happened. The Federation was as strong as ever. Obviously, something cataclysmic went down that changed everything."

    https://trekmovie.com/2020/09/...bout-restoring-the-federation/

    - The appearance of the Trill (and possibly Dax)

    - The kinda bajoran looking new combadges

It could also be as simple as warp drive causing damage to the galaxy as per TNG...

But Dax, if he/she appears in the show, would just be there for fanservice and have no real reason to meet the Discovery crew, if Omega or the events in "Force of Nature" were the cause of "The Burn".

If it happened because of the Pah Wraiths, there would be a lot of dramatic potential and a good reason for Dax having a role in the show...

Same with me. But i guess the producers and writers would like to prevent accusations of fan service and including Dax just for nostalgia reasons.

Digging that new emblem design. It vaguely reminds me of the Borg symbol, though.

EDIT- First episode is out! And it's only Part 1 of a (resumably) 2-parter, arg! But at least it works on its own as a single episode too and doesn't have a major cliffhanger.

Couple good emotional scenes in there, and at least one pretty funny one. It's a good start! I can see the broadstrokes premise of that proposed animated series from 15 years ago or whenever it was, only The Burn is from a different source (which, yeah, that would be bad if it happened).

Though that really looked like part of one of the rings of a Crossfield-class, which would almost have to be the Discovery in this scenario. So, I wonder how that'll play out.

Discovery s2, Picard and Lower Decks were posted earlier on the Crave app but now it looks like it won't be up until tomorrow, dammit I liked getting at it early 3 AM / early afternoon. S2 is on CTVSciFi at 9 (but am working) but there's a 1 AM repeat (when I'm off) although maybe it'll be posted on the app when it airs at 9.

I've been watching the 10 PM Discovery S1 repeats on CBS the last 3 weeks, been fun to go back to S1. Tonight I think is the infamous first trek F-bomb episode (ep 4) so see if they'll edit around it or just blank it out.
