JCC 20 years or 20,000 posts, whichever comes first

20 years ago i joined this site to write fanfiction. unfortunately, my fan fiction was awful, so i quit. then i undertook a two year geas spam-posting in euc social threads. for some insane reason, i began worshipping the ground valyn walked on.

teenagers.

after getting bored of that, i began my formal career: ****posting on the jcc. times were rough. amazingb once said to me "i knew mcnerf burger. mcnerf burger was a friend of mine. you are no mcnerf burger." it was the most brutal thing anyone has ever said to me. the prophecy held true, and to this day amazingb and i are NOT friends.

after some years of this, i joined a little off-site social group that would meet up in an aol instant messenger chatroom. this proved to be one of the smartest ideas i've ever had (very low bar) and i found a home with a simply incredible group of people.

and i never left. except when i had a breakdown in late 2021 and spent some number of months free-floating in a bubble of stress. covid baby! lets bring it back!

i love this place. i love a great many people here, even though i spend most of my time lurking now. unfortunately, the quality of this place ain't what it was when sapient ran it.

i will now do the customary list of name drops:

tunick- if you measure friendship by how much the other party seeks you out and tries to engage, tunick is probably the best friend i've ever had (while i remain a garbage pile and basically never reciprocate because People Are Hard)

that's it. everyone else is mid compared to god-tier tunick.

i'm gonna go back to posting basically exclusively in the nic cage social thread now.

I don’t like you because when I excitedly sent you a song by an artist I had discovered (I think it was10 Dollars by M.I.A.) you replied “lol is this a joke song?” but then Paper Planes came out and you suddenly were a fan. Although I guess she turned out to be a weird anti-vaxxer and you’re one of the most awesome people I call a friend.

And congratulations, hudzu. I don't think I remember you specifically from EUC, but I feel like we would have been there around the same time. Those days are mostly a blur though. EUC was a madhouse.

If I traveled back in time to 2003 and ran into you, I would pretend that I’m Future Tunick and be super mean, to increase the odds of being the namedrop here instead of him. It would probably backfire miserably because he’d still be a sweetheart and you’d be “omg redemption arc!”
