Love is in the air. Can you feel it? Today pitchers and catchers report for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. And despite how wrong it feels to say that, it's time for baseball and a brand-spanking new thread!

Once again, and a little more desperately than last year, let's go Mets! .500 here we come!

    Amazing.

droideka EDIT: locking in favor of 2005 MLB thread

I do not concur with that statement.

Schilling. Pedro. Lowe. Manny. Nomar. Varitek. Foulke.

Is that the AL all star team? Nope. It's the Sox.

When's the Fantasy Baseball thing starting? Who's running this fiasco? Should that be a separate thread so it will make sense to non-fantasy baseball fans?

I think it would be confusing for a casual baseball fan to come in to comment on a game and be overcome with an arguement about who has the better WHIP.

Well, well, well, Mr. Amazing B. It's good to see that you created the new thread as I can look for your red underlined username to find it in the list of threads.

I can't believe I am actually going to agree with C. Mcunderscore (wgarever his name is). But he's a Giants fan. I'm skeptical as a Giants fan, but I know we have the talent to get back to the playoffs. On that note, the Giants have been pursuing Maddux along with the Cubs, Dodgers, and a few other teams I believe. Here's hoping that Maddux can put us over the top if he likes his chances to win in S.F. Heck, it's better than L.A.

I would agree that the Red Sox look good this year, but as every year, it doesn't help that they play the Yankees so much. They have to make it past their eternal arch-rivals to win it all.

And, I am totally down with Fantasy Baseball this year as I said in the 2003 thread at the end. Whoever is going to organize the league will have to pay attention to when Yahoo starts up their fantasy leagues. I also don't think that we need another thread for fantasy baseball, most of the fantasy baseball followers would be using this thread already and it seems to me to be a waste of another thread where we likely won't alienate casual fans by talking about WHIP in this thread, as casual fans don't even know what WHIP is.

The Mets may make .500 this year, Amazing, here's hoping that your season isn't filled with as much anguish as last year.

    Amazing.

San Francisco Giants - 2003 N.L. West Division Champs
Barry Bonds - 6 Time NL MVP (1990,1992,1993,2001,2002,2003)

That was my point- That they wouldn't know what WHIP was, and therefore either wouldn't contribute to the thread, or may contribute some S and M fantasy they have been having about Fernando Valenzuela. Whatever. I don't care either way.

    I'm naming my team Bobaballs.

    A-Rod to Yanks?

Soriano, Contreras, and top prospect Dioner Navarro for A-Rod. Rejected, but discussions haven't completely collapsed...

A-Rod to the Yankees would be the worst thing ever on so many levels. I think it might actually make me cry.

    Amazing.

I concur with that statement Amazing

And I will be running/setting up the fantasy league once again this year. Since I won last years, I figure it's easiest for me to do so. :p

Let's go Phillies! This is our year!

Im making a prediction right now about whos going to go to the playoffs.

    AL East- New York

    AL Central- Chicago

    AL West- Seattle

    Wild card- Boston Red Sox

    AL Champions New York Yankees

    NL East-Atlanta

    NL Central-Houston

    NL West - San Francisco

    NL Wild Card- St. Louis

    NL Champions Houston Astros

World Series Champions - New York Yankees

Im probably not even close on this one, but this is what I feel based on off-season trades, and personal preference.

If Atlanta and New York both the make the World Series again I am going to cry. That has happened one too many times in the past couple of years.

It's hard to believe that the Giants could win the NL West with that offense, but looking at the rest of the division they just might. I hope your prediction for the AL West comes true, but I won't be holding my breath.

I don't think Atlanta has the team that can go the distance this year. Sure they have Chipper, Andruw and Smoltz, but J.D. Drew? Ha! Their rotation is questionable to say the least, and their set-up men are pretty weak.

I'm going with either my Phillies or Marlins to take the NL East, with one of those teams taking the Wild Card as well.

If both Pettite and Clemens can adjust to the NL (and Minute Maid Park), then the Astros may be as strong as a team as we've seen in years. We know the offense can handle their job, but now, the bullpen comes into question.....Can Dotel move from middle reliever to closer with no probs?

    AL East: New York
    AL Central: Chicago
    AL West: Anaheim(mark my words...)
    AL Wild Card: Boston

    NL East: Philly
    NL Central: Houston
    NL West: San Francisco
    NL Wild Card: Chicago

And your new world champion...the New York Yankees. Yay.

Well I'm sure that he'll be happier playing for a winner, but moving to third will certainly lessen his place in history.

Ah, gotta love that New Thread Smell...

A-Rod to the Yanks still has me in shock. I cant believe that this might actually go down.

Still doesnt solve our pitching issues, though...

Today pitchers and catchers report for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Are you sure? Today's St. Pete Times says that tomorrow is when they report in.

Schilling. Pedro. Lowe. Manny. Nomar. Varitek. Foulke.

hahahaha... and if the Yanks get A-Rod, how long will it take Boston to implode from the fact that their two star hitters will know, for a fact, that they weren't wanted this year?

Or do you think Kevin Millar would get traded first, given he said he was excited to have A-Rod over Nomar...

Oh, well... at least Schilling will have a lot of time to play EverQuest during the clubhouse brawls... ;)

ESPN tells me today and tomorrow. Tampa's team page says Pitchers/catchers report the 14/15, which I assume means pitchers today and catchers tomorrow.

    Amazing.

Well, here's to another year of baseball. Hopefully it'll be a memorable one, though I wouldn't expect anything close to 2003's postseason.
