And like I said, it's eleven less characters to type. Have pity on the poor hosts who will be typing out "Reader's Choice" plus the actual title of the award alot. ;) [face_praying]

I guess there's no difference as both mean exactly the same thing.

Reader's Choice sounds more accurate, since what is voted the "Best Story" may by no means actually be the best story.

Reader's Choice as they are stories the readers have chosen, rather than necessarily the best (though they might be).

Wanting to up this to keep it on the front page for all to see.

Though I feel Reader's Choice is more accurate... gives kudos to the winners without making those that didn't win sound inferior by the word 'Best', I have changed my mind and voted for 'Best'. Only because I understand that users like to be able to put their accomplishments in their sigs and it is less letter's and that is something that has to be considered when doing one's signature.

I know that Readers' Choice is more accurate, but I think everyone knows that "best" doesn't mean THE BEST! We are all aware that it means a story got the most votes, not that their story was necessarily the best. I voted best because it's short and simple.

Just a quick up for all to see. :D

I agree though. There is not much of a difference between best and readers choice as far as what they mean. Now the characters... That's a different story. ;)

What VaderLVR64 said. Look, even the Oscars have their categories titled "Best (insert category here)", instead of "Academy Members' Choice", which would be more accurate, since sometimes you can see that the choice is not very objective... ;)

Heck, nothing is objective in this world, so what's all the fuzz about? :)

I voted 'Best'. It has less characters to go in sigs and bios. ;)

As of now it's 110 votes:

    61 for best
    49 for RC

It's still pretty close, and the poll is still open for a few more days.

Anyone else want to weigh in?

Just wanted to point out (while upping this thread so more could see) that the terms here are really all relative. I'm pretty sure it's been said before but either of the terms could really work here. I mean I highly doubt that everyone who votes reads ever single story in its entirety. However, when they do vote, I'm assuming (and I could be wrong) that they're voting for the story that they think is the best. And that's their opinion. We all have different opinions about what we like Best. In high school, I liked English class BEST. It doesn't mean that I thought that say Math was not a quality class, but my tastes just happen to make it so that I preferred English. Someone else might feel totally opposite. It doesn't mean that one class is the BEST and one isn't, it just means that to me English was the Best and to them Math was the Best. The same goes for these awards.

If it is Best, now I have to go and edit the Beyond nom thread. Great... though best is shorter to type...

While a difference of 13 may not seem like much, I think it shows more would perfer the change back to 'Best'. I would suggest that the Hosts change the threads accordingly.

Next year we may have to vote between 'Best' and 'The Fic That Got The Most Votes This Time'. :D :D

I think Best has it this time around. It was a difference of 10%, but still, with 121 people weighing in, that's actually about how many people vote in the awards each time anyway, so I think it's telling. And even for those who like Reader's Choice, this title of 'Best' is not written in stone. If someone's really unhappy with the name change they can always bring it up again next time the awards roll around.
