Awards 2005 Winter Fan Fiction Awards - Announcement Thread: 12.24.05, Awards and Ent. Volunteeers Listed

ANNOUNCEMENT

After much deliberation we've got some new dates for the awards.

Basically, everything will be pushed back until after New Year's, as we'd originally planned.


Before

Noms: Jan. 3 - 16

Excerpts: Jan. 17 - Jan. 27

Ceremony: Feb. 10

Saga

Noms: Jan. 11 - Jan. 24

Excerpts: Jan. 25 - Feb. 4

Ceremony: Feb. 17

Beyond

Noms: Jan. 18 - Jan. 31

Excerpts: Feb. 1 - Feb. 11

Ceremony: Feb. 24

That should all be about right. Plus, it will also give all the mods and volunteers plenty of time before the first set of noms start to work out any details and procedures. which will make the organisation run smoothly later on.

And though they're way off in the future, the Summer Awards can then start the first nom period in early July, and run until the end of August.

edit: Best of all, it gives you all a little extra time to surf the forums for potential noms.

Pushing the whole schedule outside of the holiday makes a lot more sense. I still don't see how you can really think that the spacing between excerpts submission and the awards is reasonable though or that limit on volunteers is desirable. JJSF has already been through the awards mayhem once; hopefully she can help tweak things so they make her job and the volunteers' jobs easier.

 

Well, I guess if we have to, the mods can pull some all-nighters to make sure everything gets done. Hey, I did it in college, and there's always chocolate to keep me going!

 

Things you can do to help the awards run smoothly:

1) Since the eligibility period for stories has already passed, start getting your nominations together now. Make use of the FAQ thread which lists many of the character discussion threads, indices, and challenge threads.

Also, use the New Story Index and Completed Story Index threads on each board.

Added it to the first post. We can make a sticky later if we want.

 

What happened to the child categories? What with all the au lukes and leias in saga, it would probably be a good idea to have them.

 

Just a quick question -- can we nominate only completed fics, or are WIP eligible?

Sorry for my ignorance -- I've never done this before.

 

As long as the story has had a post between June 10 - Nov. 30 it's eligible.

We'll have a more complete set of rules later on, but the main things to keep in mind are eligibility by post date, previous wins, correct category, and no nominating or voting for yourself.

Not yet, but hopefully we'll know in the next day or so.

 

And we are allowed to nominate for each catergory in each era? My first time through the entire process, as well.

 

To answer your question, Z, yes, you are allowed to nominate in all eras and all categories.

Yes all noms/votes for an era must be sent in one PM. It is pretty clearly laid out in the rules which will be posted as soon as we start noms for Before.

 

Here's hoping not all The Saga attention goes to Anakin/Padmé, Obidala, or RotS AUs
