WELCOME TO THE 2016 NOMINATIONS THREAD FOR THE BEYOND AND SEQUEL TRILOGY ERAS!​

Nominations for Before and Saga have not started yet, they will begin on 28 March.​

Nominations are due: Sunday 27 March 2016 at midnight PST.

Nominating for: Beyond and Sequel Trilogy, plus the Random Award.

In this thread you will find detailed instructions to nominate stories, authors and reviewers in for the Beyond and Sequel Trilogy eras. Please read this carefully, some award categories have peculiarities and it’s easy to mess things up

You can nominate now for the Random Award, but you can also choose to wait until the Before and Saga era nominations.

Please do NOT post your nominations in this thread and do NOT send them to me. ​

Send them by PM to the appropriate sock following the procedure described below.​

Please note that Beyond and Sequel Trilogy are two different eras, each one with its own categories and eligible stories. To know which stories are eligible in which era, check out the list of eligible fics here.

ELIGIBILITY

​

1) Stories that were started OR updated in these two eras between 01 January 2015 at 00:00:01 PST and 31 December 2015 at midnight PST are eligible.​

2) Stories that won one or more awards in the past are not eligible in the category(ies) they won, but they are eligible in every other category. Reposts are eligible like any other story.​

3) Some categories have peculiarities, these are indicated in their definition below.​

4) The list of eligible fics and users will indicate if a specific story or user is not eligible in one or more categories.​

GENERAL NOMINATION RULES

1) You may nominate up to two fics per category. This means zero, one or two, not more​

2) You may nominate the same fic in up to three categories. This means zero, one, two or three, not more.​

3) Anyone is welcome to nominate, whether reader, writer or lurker.​

4) Writers may not nominate themselves. This includes works they co-authored.​

5) Stories are eligible only in the era under which they are listed in the list of eligible fics.​

PROCESS TO NOMINATE FOR THE RANDOM AWARD

1) The Random Award is not era-specific. You may nominate ONE fic from ANY ERA for it.​

2) All 2015 fics except Chyntuck's are eligible for the Random Award. This includes the volunteers and the mods.​

3) Make up a crack!category (e.g. Best WTF Moment, Best Scene Pushing the ToS, Punniest Character Name, etc) and select the fic you want to nominate for it from the list.​

4) Send a PM to BOTH Anakin Solo Revanchist and Chyntuck with the following information:​

Please remember that the Random Award is intended for good-humored fun. Anything that can be construed as baiting or flaming will be dealt with by the mods.​

GOING TO THE VOTING ROUND

​

1) To go to the voting round, a fic or author should have two nominations or more. However, If a category has 3 or less fics nominated, then any story nominated for that category will go on to the voting round.​

2) If a fic was nominated in more than 3 categories, it goes to the voting round only in the 3 categories where it received the most nominations. In case of a tie for third place, the least populated category will be chosen. In case of a tie between two equally populated categories, a category is drawn at random.​

BEYOND CATEGORY DEFINITIONS

Please pay special attention to the definitions in dark red, as they have peculiarities.

GENRE

Best Alternate Universe: A story that diverges from or contradicts the established storyline (New Canon/Legends) in which it is written. This is usually, but not always, indicated by the author in the opening post or the title bar.

Best Canon: A story that does not diverge from or contradict the established storyline (New Canon/Legends) in which it is written. Stories that aren’t blatantly AU and aren’t defined as AU by the author in the OP or the title bar can be assumed to be canon-compliant.

Best Humour: The best story, regardless of length, which is comedic in nature by virtue of its characters, situations or dialogue, and whose intention is to provoke a reaction that may range from chuckles to ROFLs.

Best All-Around: The story you feel encompasses the best of everything, writing, plot, characterization, etc. It also should have a little bit of the big genres, so action, drama, romance, humour, etc.

STYLE

Best Epic: An epic is a looooong story that requires a marathon of several hours, or a non-marathon of several days, to be read in its entirety. As a guideline, 30,000 words or more.

Best Short Story: A story that can be read in a single sitting without being a marathon (as a guideline, less than 30,000 words). This includes poems, vignettes and song-fics.

Best Series: A collection of two or more stories that are interconnected by their theme, storyline or characters.

• Stories that form a series may have been posted in the same thread OR in different threads (or a combination thereof). You MUST list the individual fics that you are nominating as forming a series, even if they are in the same thread. The only exception to this is drabble/drabblish threads.
• Archive threads where an author posts all his/her miscellaneous one-shots are NOT eligible as a whole, but a combination of stories from such a thread is OK if they are interconnected.
• Stories posted in a series thread are also eligible in other categories as standalones.
• The stories constituting the series can be of any length, so anything between a series of drabbles or a series of epics is eligible under this category.
• For a series to be eligible, at least one of its component stories should have been posted or updated within the eligibility dates.
• A series that won Best Series in the past is NOT eligible for it anymore, but any stories added by the author since s/he won the award are eligible as standalones.
• In the case of a series that spans several eras, the series is eligible in any of the eras in which at least one of its component stories was posted during the eligibility dates.

CHARACTERS

Best Interpretation of a Canon Character: The best/most faithful/most relevant depiction in fanfic of any character that appears, however briefly, in the films, New Canon or Legends material.

Best Original Character: The best formed, most interesting and most compelling character that was created by an author in this era.

Best Villain/Antagonist: The best formed, most interesting and most compelling character, established or original, who is all-around evil and/or stands in opposition to the main character of the story.

Best Canon Relationship: Any relationship (familial, friendship, romantic, rivalry, etc) between two Canon/Legends characters that is described or strongly implied in New Canon or Legends material.

Best Original Relationship: Any relationship (familial, friendship, romantic, rivalry, etc) between OCs or between a Canon/Legends character and an OC. This also includes a relationship between two canon characters that does not appear or is not strongly implied in Canon/Legends.

For all the character and relationship categories above, please note the following:

• A character or relationship that won the award in the past is eligible for it again, provided that it is in a different story.
• A story that won one of these awards in the past is eligible for it again, provided that it is for a different character or relationship.
• You MUST specify for which character/relationship you are nominating a story.

AUTHOR

Best Author: The author whose work consistently demonstrates a high degree of skill and creativity in their creation of memorable characters and settings, original plots, interesting themes, and overall depiction of the GFFA.

• Authors who won this category in 2014 and 2015 are NOT eligible for it. Authors who won this category in 2011 or earlier are eligible.
• Writers who were active as co-authors only within the eligibility dates are NOT eligible.

Best New Author: The best author who posted his or her first story in this era within the eligibility dates. New authors who were active as co-authors only within the eligibility dates are NOTeligible.

OTHER

Best Reviewer: This can be someone who does really in-depth reviews, someone who reviews prolifically or whatever reason you think they are the best reviewer. They do not have to be an author at all. Please include a short reason as to why you think they are a good reviewer.

GENRE

Best Speculation/Spoiler: The best ST-era story that was posted, partially or entirely, on the boards before the author had seen TFA (cut-off date: 18 December 2015)

Best Post-Premiere: The Best ST-era story that was begun on the boards after the author had seen TFA (cut-off date: 18 December 2015)

Best Legends Inclusion: The story that best integrates one or more elements from the Legends-verse in the ST era. This could be, but is not limited to, characters, plot points or elements of world-building.

CHARACTERS
