Arena 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic thread.

I figured since the 2018 Olympic torch was lit today, I figured I'd put this up.

So what are you looking forward from this Olympics?

 

No bombs falling would be a good start. No crazy U.S - North Korea antics during the games.

Can't wait to watch all the NHL players compete and....

Not sure how much live coverage we'll see in the UK - Pyeongchang is 8 hours ahead of London. A lot of the stuff I like (skiing, ski jumping) would take place outdoors during daylight hours. I'm not a figure skating/ice dancing fan but I do like speed skating.

With all the problems in the region, there will sadly be a cold chill over this sporting event.

He does a tremendous job as NBC's face of American propaganda.

While I am upset that the NHL players are not going, I also think it could be a better tournament overall now in that more teams have a chance of winning the gold.

But Bob Costas is still going I believe, just not anchoring the primetime show.

As for sports, I watch pretty much all of it particularly the hockey. I will even watch the figure skating though it all seems anticlimactic after Harding-Kerrigan. I really cannot believe that will be 24 years ago when these games begin but it will be. Unreal!

Winter Olympics yes but I remember him doing some stuff for the Barcelona games particularly with regards to the Dream Team.

Splitting up the Winter and Summer Games and having them in separate years was the best idea ever. Now there isn't a 4 year drought between games and both the Winter and Summer Games get the focus on them without being overshadow by the other.

 

Yeah, it took me awhile, but I've warmed up to the split over time.

 

Although having to sit through an Olympic opening ceremony every two years is difficult. It's better than a Superbowl halftime show but worse than waiting at the DMV to get your driver's licence photo taken.

 

Really? I liked it at first, but have since cooled.

Looking forward to pretty much everything. As a lifelong Olympics fan, there's very few events I won't at the very least have on in the background whenever possible.

Figure skating and alpine skiing are my special faves, though.

Russia has been banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics due to doping and cheating. However, athletes who can prove they are clean would be allowed to compete under a neutral flag.

 

Putin should just play the Trump card on this ban and say that Russia wasn't going to participate anyway because of all the fake news and the Olympics are not worthy of Russia presence. That the Olympics are in the tatters and worse they've been in history. Sad.

 

Just saw that a bit ago. Good for the IOC as I didn’t think they finally take such a drastic action but it was warranted. Putin is going to go crazy though and I am sure his puppet Trump will advocate on his side. Blah!

 

Mikaela Shiffrin is having a record season and is on her way to becoming the Rafael Nadal of slalom. A heavy favorite for 3 gold medals.
