    Ken Spears, one half of the duo behind the animation studio Ruby-Spears Productions, and co-creator of Scooby-Doo and Jabberjaw, died a little over a week ago. Joe Ruby, the other half of the duo, died a few months ago as well. Rough few months for classic cartoons.

    And now the origin of where two guys who acknowledged they were told to replicate The Archie Show got the name "Scooby-Doo" remains a mystery they took to the grave.



    Yep, an unsolved mystery.

    (No, seriously, the official story they gave was always "I'm not sure" or "Frank Sinatra scat singing" depending on the day. Come on.)

    A true hero. My family friend with ALS has benefitted from some of the research that came out of that, although sadly I don't think he'll make it 7 years from his diagnosis.

    Who would have thought that the ice bucket challenge would take off and be such a monster success the way it was? Such a wonderful phenomenon. I mean, it was such a big deal that it even became annoying, which is a bar very few charitable activities are able to achieve. I'm not being facetious or sarcastic when I say that. It literally did get annoying the way it was just so pervasive and since it was for a good cause, I applaud that.
