    I think it’s safe to say everyone here remembers David Prowse in his most iconic role, the possibly gay live-in medical assistant from A Clockwork Orange. RIP.

    And those that can probably can’t say the director had someone else re-record all their lines, and have someone else’s face used for the big unmasking.

    The character Darth Vader was made up from the work of several people but Dave Prowse was definitely one of them. Also he did the con circuit so he got to meet a lot of fans and build up a relation with them outside of the suit as well. He was one of the first SW actors that I met when he showed up at a small Swedish convention.

    In a role in which his voice and face weren’t used, it would be easy to underestimate Prowse’s contribution, to think he was little more than a body filling out the suit. But as a masked character, so much of Vader is in his physicality, and Prowse’s physical performance radiated authority. He made the character his own to the point that when they put some other big guy in the suit in Rogue One, you could tell something was off. This Vader didn’t quite move and stand like the Vader we know. Prowse was that distinctive. Like Peter Mayhew, he was perfect casting, with Lucas lucking into great physical performances from roles that just called for silent big guys.
