30,000 drones over U.S. skies by 2020

Congress passed a bill this week that has privacy advocates very concerned. The bill, FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act, permits the federal government to fly unmanned spy planes, known as drones, in domestic airspace for surveillance purposes. The FAA projects 30,000 drones will be flying around America and gathering information by 2020.

I'm just mixed. Go find bad guys, there are already many cameras everwhere, but perhaps this is just a bit too BB. If there is potential for abuse, said abuse often happens.

it would be great if 30,000 drones were being played/broadcast over u.s. skies at ear shattering volume, simultaneously and continuously. i would be in something like a perpetual orgasmic state. i'd never have to leave the house.

 

The only part of this that is troubling is the "30,000". I'm pretty sure that's the definition of overkill.

We could get along with only 250 operating stateside.

That's roughly one drone for every 126 square miles. Does seem a tad high and unnecessary.

Not that big of a deal really. Not too difficult to take down if it really came down to it. It takes people to build this stuff. One wrong move and one rogue command and the birds fall out of the sky.
