after recieving a trial version of 3ds max 5 in the mail i installed it then started to use it. no problems...yet. then my friend was playing around with it and made a panel on the right hand side "disappear". after about an hour of trying to figure out how to get it back, i thought i would just uninstall the whole program and re install it so all the settings would be default. well i uninstalled it from the add/remove programs menu and then i tried to install it again. after starting the install, its starts of with the regular "searching for installed applications" screen and an error comes up that says "internal error 2711. CF4TUTREF". after that the setup closes because of a "fatal error". i don't know what is wrong, and i know this wouldn't be the BEST forum to get in answer in, but I hope someone had the unforunate problem that i have and how they fixed it. any and ALL help would be GREATLY appreciated.

note: i also posted this in the scifi 3d forum incase anybody over there has ever had the same problem as me.

I would suggest asking in the Discreet Forums. As a last resort before doing that... you can try the following:

-Uninstall Max (I assume this is already done since you can't seem to reinstall it)

    -Delete the '3dsmax' folder

-Uninstall CDILLA and delete it's directory.

-Reboot and try to reinstall Max.

D.E.L.E.T.E. THE ENTIRE FOLDER ON YOUR HARD DRIVE FOR EACH PART OF THE PROGRAM 3DSMAX & CDILLA.

    Don't just uninstall.

Try running your registry (and make a backup copy just to be safe) and deleting everything related to 3ds max or cdilla or whatever. Hope that helps. :)

Aaron, thank you very much for the help. I got rid of all the 3ds max and c-dilla files on my computer and i think it helped out a little bit. now when i try to install the demo it gets passed the "searching for installed components" window and it comes to the next window. this window says "welcome to the 3ds max installation wizard". when i click the next but a new window pops up(and the old one is still open underneathe) with the license agreement. i hit the "i agree" button and the license window closes with the "installation wizard" window still open behind it. when i hit next it opens up the license agreement window again and it just loops. maybe someone else can help me out.

Believe you got some extra leftovers hanging in the Registry. Try searching for any Discreet or 3dmax entries or get your hands on one of many nice free Registry Cleaners and scan the sucker for missing linked or etc entries.

Uninstalling it was the wrong move, but that's to late to tell. Loosing the side panel was probably you just putting Max into Professional working mode, which removes the panels for extra screen room. You can bring it back to standard mode thru the settings options and window layout abilities next time. ;]

In the event you don't know how to edit your registry, go to Start --> Run. Type regedt32 and hit enter. You can browse or search for a certain key or value.
