He's doing a Netflix series next and hasn't really become a household name the way actual stars are. He's probably as well known as Brosnan was before he was cast, or Moore; both of whom were the most high profile castings before they got it but weren't big stars.

He was VERY good in Mission Impossible.

Could work and is certainly a better alternative to Ebla or Hiddleston (especially the latter - not a fan).

I still call for Clive Owen.

    *Shrugs*

I just don't see why someone should be limited by age because to preclude Mr. Owen on middle or elderly age would be to overlook a fine, upstanding gentleman like yourself.

Just watching out for my fellow 'Stralian.

Because Bond is clearly someone in his late 30s/early 40s in the books and age has a direct correlation on reflexes and physical ability.

It was on one of her videos. I'll clarify that what she was talking about was in relation to Superman, not Bond - she was saying his agent was asking for something like 20 million a picture for Cavill to return as Superman, and she felt he wasn't being realistic. Randolph is not a big Cavill fan.

If she is right about him asking for big money I can't see Broccoli going for him.

Is she someone we should take seriously? I've never heard either way so I'm asking legitimately (and also for a friend).

I think she was once, less so now. She seems to take against certain actors, Henry Cavill and Jessica Chastain being her punching bags of the moment. I assume she has decent sources, but who knows?

The Little Drummer Girl has a trailer, by the way. I'm guessing the actual show will air before 2019.

She was one of the people spreading the bull**** about how Kathleen Kennedy was going to be fired.

Yes, and she was obsessive about it... even doubling down after Kennedy got a new three year contract extension.

I think Cavill would probably do fine as Bond, though I haven't seen him in enough good stuff for him to excite me. He certainly looks the part, and by the time they'd cast him he'd only be a year or two older than Craig was when he was cast. Not sure the producers would go for him, though. He's not an A-list star, but he may be too recognizable as Superman -- I'm not sure they'd want to cast someone who's currently well-known for an equally, if not more, iconic role.

I'm on record thinking they'd do well to cast Jack O'Connell, who would be in his early thirties after Craig retires, leaving them a good long prime to work in.

It is a real pity that Richard Armitage isn't 15 years younger, when all is said and done.

He's the right age and is a talented actor, but at 5'8'' he's always struck me as being too short for Bond, and has tended to push a working-class image. Not saying it couldn't work, but he wouldn't be my first choice.

According to the Express, Ladbrokes' odds for Bond contenders are reportedly:

    Tom Hiddleston: 4-5
    Tom Hardy: 5-1
    Idris Elba: 5-1
    Aiden Turner: 10-1
    James Norton: 10-1
    Henry Cavil:12-1
    Orlando Bloom: 12-1

I don't know how they calculate the odds, it all seems rather dubious to me. Orlando Bloom being there at all is a bit of a WTF? as well.

They're talking out their arses. Of that list, on Cavill and Turner would actually be there.

Okay, a serious question for everyone: how important do you think it is for the actor playing Bond to have top-tier acting ability?

There are many UK actors who are physically a good match for the character, but not many who have made a name for themselves on top-notch acting. Daniel Craig was a well-respected actor more known for character roles than leading-man glamour, but he's been a huge hit because he actually feels dangerous. Part of that comes down to having a face that looks like it could take a punch, and a body to match; in terms of acting though, he hasn't really been stretched since Casino Royale, and generally Bond films unfortunately don't require a lot of range. How much of what worked for Craig was actually acting power, vs simply looking like a killer?

Of the current crop of potential Bond actors in the right age-bracket, Dan Stevens has the greatest range (imo)… but I noticed in The Guest he has to keep his weight down in order to keep his jawline, which limits how much muscle he can pack on, which affects how dangerous he looks. I think his acting talent would probably be wasted in the Bond role anyway, and combined with the weight issue I don't think he'd be a great fit.

Fassbender would have been my top choice as I think he has the height, the cold look, and the acting chops, but I think he's now just too old as his first Bond film would be years from now.

Cavill was surprisingly good in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., even though he's not demonstrated first-class acting talent (he was perfectly good in MoS and MI:6, but neither really made him a star). Does he need to be a better actor than he's shown to work as Bond? I really don't know.

Most of the obvious big names have aged out at this point. Does Bond have to be played by a well-respected actor, or will anyone the right age with the right look do?

I think so nowadays . I mean if you look at even the superhero movies they're going for people who have some acting chops , these movies have to appeal to as wide an audience as possible , it can't just be a good looking action hero .

I've been watching this movie about Herve Villachez , with Peter Dinklage , just got to the part where they attend the premiere of TMWTGG and the audience is loving it , cheering madly etc.
    so - rather far-fetched :p

    https://morningconsult.com/2018/11/20/007-poll-shows-scant-support-for-diversifying-bonds/

This seems to be a survey of Americans' views on Bond. Their top ten most favoured Bond films are:

    Goldfinger
    From Russia with Love
    Live and Let Die
    Diamonds Are Forever
    For Your Eyes Only
    Casino Royale
    You Only Live Twice
The Man with the Golden Gun
    Dr. No
    The Spy Who Loved Me

This will not improve Ender's opinion of the American public. Diamonds are Forever getting into the top five is particularly perplexing.
