I've highlighted what shows Americans cannot be trusted on Bond.

Edit: that image is much bigger than I thought :(

Moore still being so high is very surprising - I assume if they kept their poll to the under 50's it would look quite different.

I suspect that is true as well.

On behalf of all Americans I apologize for a lot of those stats but especially for On Her Majesty's Secret Service being tied at 20 with The World is Not Enough.

if you look at it they're all (but one) from the 60s and 70s , so yeah the age thing must be a factor , but still - The Man with the Golden Gun - holy ***** ****ing christ .

Here's an interesting hypothetical: How do you imagine each James Bond iteration dying?

    Here's mine:

Early Connery succumbs to liver/lung cancer in his early 50s.
George Lazenby dies on the mission.
Late Connery and Roger Moore each have a massive heart attack while shtupping a girl half their age.
Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig take their own lives (via PPK) as age and experience take their toll.
Pierce Brosnan lives into his 80s and keels over by the pool, with a dumb smile on his face.

Americans. The only explanation for all of the love for the dumbest parts of Bond.

Seriously? Those two portrays of Bond are the closest that has ever been to Flemming's vision and the last thing I see either of their character arcs doing is taking their own lives.

Bond is the definitive Alpha-male who never says die. If anything, as shown in Casino Royale when he is bound to a chair, Bond thrives on his pain. That's the constant driving force for him in Quantum of Solace in that it makes him all the more ruthless and cold (which is why I disagree with so many critics that Craig's take in this film lacked charm - that wasn't the point of QOS).

Suicide? REALLY? Not sold. Not in the slightest.

sean connery - alcohol poisoning and/or aids

    roger moo - cerebral palsy

    timothy dalton - loneliness

pierce broznan - unsure but he'll die with that stupid expression on his face that he always does.

daniel craig - walking through a glass door by accident. oops!

the other guy that only did one movie - spontaneous combustion

So we're back to consciously thinking of the next film as part of a series as opposed to standalone. That bothers me as I thought Spectre was awful and I'd like to forget it ever happened.

So I learned some trivia I'd never known before :
Bond's Walther PPK from Dr. No is going up for auction , apparently it belonged to Bernard Lee , on the day of filming the prop man had failed to produce the gun , Lee owned one and went home and got it and it was used in the picture .

I want to forget all about Spectre. I might actually have to skip this next film.

No mention of Christoph Waltz there, and I think he's said already that he wasn't returning. Of course, he also said (before Spectre came out) that his character wasn't Blofeld. But either way, I wonder what angle they'll take with things if Swann is back but Blofeld isn't. Spectre certainly seemed to set things up going forward.

Odds are she'll be around just long enough to get shot dead like Tracy was.

I shouldn't be admitting this, but I just watched a 10+ minute compilation of all the gunbarrel sequences. Here's how I'd rank my favorites (in terms of pose and musical composition).

    1. QOS (Craig's a locomotive, as is the theme)
    2. Spectre (Love the silhouette work)
    3. LTK (Powerful rendition of the theme, and Dalton's pose is tops)
    4. TND (A graceful turn by Brosnan)
    5. OHMSS (A suitably creepy variation on the theme, and man, Lazenby actually dropped to his knee)

"Doctor No" has a good one, with the off-kilter jack-in-the-box music and that loud, echoing gunshot.

Yes, stuntman Bob Simmons did the gunbarrel sequence for "Doctor No", which was reused for "From Russia with Love" and "Goldfinger". Connery was first seen in the gunbarrel in "Thunderball". I'm not a fan of Connery's sequence because when he turns, he nearly stumbles. They should've done another take.

Yeah, I love that one too. The first, discordant sounds suggest the presence of the Doctor himself, and Bond's gait is clandestine (emphasizing, as does the film, the spy aspect).
