This may be old news. When creating the Lightsaber for his stories, did George Lucas ever consider making the Kiber Crystals so incredibly dense, that a crystal used in a Lightsaber would make the weapon weigh like 100 or 200 pounds? The point being, Lightsabers would be so heavy that it would require a force user to manipulate the weapon.

No, that'd be silly, especially since lightsabers are described as difficult to use not because they're heavy (100 or 200 pounds is way too heavy, even for a Force User to lift effortlessly for prolonged periods of time), but because they're practically weightless. A lightsaber is difficult to wield by a non Force user because you need to have a connection to the crystal powering the blade to even be able to wield it like you would with a normal sword because it has no weight to it. So instead of gauging your swings and thrusts by the weight of the blade, you do so by your connection to the crystal powering it.

Furthermore, kyber crystals powering lightsabers are a relatively new thing and didn't really come about until disney canon. Before then, the crystals had different names and were a lot more complicated (as defined in legends). Rather than being powered by one focusing crystal, they were powered by power crystals and one focusing crystal that gave the blade its color. A lot of this was mechanics done for video games though, which would explain the complexity as they needed to provide many different ways to customize your lightsaber blade and make it capable of doing different things, all based on what crystals powered it.

Plus, as seen when Han uses Luke's lightsaber to cut open a Tauntaun, it's not that hard for a non-Force User to use. Grievous uses them too. Ideas like "only his cyborg reflexes make it possible for him to do this" are IMO unnecessary.

Grievous is able to use them because of extensive training by Dooku. Also, the only reason Grievous was able to hold his own against so many Jedi was simply due to his size, as well as the number of lightsabers he used at the same time. If he tried to fight the same opponents before his cybernetics as a Kaleesh Warrior, he wouldn't have had the same amount of success, but he still would have had some success.

But Kev-Mas, my whole idea is that I think it would have been cool if a normal person, like Han Solo, couldn't use the lightsaber due to its weight. Only jedi/siths could wield it by using the the force. A 100 pound weapon is weightless to a force user. Thanks for your reply.

Hamill said in interviews during Empire that Lucas told him the idea was that the energy whirling in the blade was hard to control so he wanted him to wield it as if it had weight.

Why? I think it would have been a pretty good plot point in the movies. Imagine a scene where a cowardly Empire Officer/General is struggling to try and pick up a Lightsaber that a Jedi has dropped. The Jedi slowly and calmly approaches him knowing the officer's attempts are futile. Next we see a quick force pull and a swift saber strike as the Jedi takes him out. Now it would probably be better by replacing the Jedi with Darth Maul or Vader but you get my point.

Personally I liked the KotOR explanation. One colour crystal and one for augmenting the abilities of the blade as the user saw fit. Specifically a Qixoni and Sigil Crystal w/ a red blade. ;)
