like 40+ plus years with very few characters in more than one film and never a lead in more than one film.
Maybe more focused on major events than characters, exploring the consequence and legacy of actions in one film and how they are felt generations later.
There'd still have to be some mcguffin or ongoing struggle to tie the films together but could allow for different eras, public mood and political consensus.
The huge gaps in time as well as loose ends with characters would lend itself to a lot of EU material, as well as being necessary to provide background to new faces when there's a sudden jump in time.

    Thoughts?
Would the lack of a consistent core group of characters take away one of the key things that makes star wars star wars and there for put off the casual viewers?

This really isn't enough to warrant a thread of its own. Locking.
