I have no doubt he’s writing. I have significant doubts that what he’s writing is Winds of Winter. :p

Isn't he still working on Fire and Blood Volume 2 as well?

According to his blog, “I am back in my fortress of solitude again, my isolated mountain cabin, which means I am back in Westeros again, once more moving ahead with WINDS OF WINTER.”
I assume so, and I'll be honest in that I am more excited about that.

Seconded. Fire and Blood was great. And I liked Knight of the Seven Kingdoms a lot - so am hoping to see the larger-scale, Fire and Blood-esque take on the events of that period, especially the Summerhall incident.

The BlackFyre Rebellions, Brynden/Shiera, Summerhall, The Storm King Lyonel Baratheon, Maester Aemon, etc.

I'd call Fire And Blood the Silmarillion of his work.

Like with Tolkien - it's the prequel that all the tender loving care really goes into, and the main work is good but not as much the author's favourite.

I'd like a set of books that go back even further than that.
Kings in the North, the First Long Night, the Empire of the Dawn, The Bloodstone Emperor, the Valyrian Freehold, etc.

That would be good. Valyria in particular I would expect to be a fan favourite.

At the same time, some of the fascinating thing with Valyria is that we don't really know what it was like or what happened. As much as I love knowing the full backstory, I can see how it would loose a bit of its magic if we actually got it.

Yup - but it can still be cast in a "historians think this happened but they're not actually certain" way - especially when it comes to The Doom. Perhaps its "in-universe author" could be Septon Barth?

A little bit of me would like to see the events of The Ice Dragon referenced in a Valyria-centric work, even if it's only in very broad strokes (because Martin never originally intended it to be in the same universe, and it was his publishers that rereleased it under the ASoIaF banner).

    Me too.

I also don't think ASOIAF will be finished.

I'm not educated on Martin's intentions. Is he opposed to someone posthumously swooping in?

Strange to see a fandom, community, and conversation so eviscerated out of existence.

I was kind of optimistic we’d at least get book six, but basically being locked in one building for an entire year still couldn’t get the book done so... eh, the man finally twisted himself into a plot corner he can’t get out of.

I just started and finished the series this year. So. I'm looking forward to catching up on these 298 pages. I'll be necro-quoting you guys soon with my arguments.
