Decorations on the Façade of the Temple of the Feathered Serpent (200) – Unknown
    Media: Stone
    Location: Teotihuacán, Mexico

The Temple of the Feathered Serpent is a six-level step-pyramid, the third largest pyramid at Teotihuacán, one of the largest cities of the Mayan empire. You might know “the Feathered Serpent” by his proper name, Quetzalcoatl, one of the coolest names ever. The pyramid is decorated with stone heads meant to represent Quetzalcoatl and either another serpent deity or Quetzalcoatl in one of his alternate forms. Back in the day, this pyramid was completely painted and all of the serpent heads had obsidian eyes that would have glinted when light hit them. An imposing sight and one of the last sights a lot of people got; a mass grave beneath the pyramid contained the remains of over two-hundred human sacrifices.

Anyway, they’re pretty cool. Here are a couple of different angles on them.

@Thena you remember these? I don’t know how these sites work. Were you able to actually climb on the pyramids?

Last time I was there, there were a lot of areas that were closed off but you could at least go up on the main pyramid. The steps are designed so that you have to go up sideways (each step being too narrow to step on it unless your foot is completely turned) and this was apparently done so that nobody would ever turn their backs to the gods.

    Tomb Paintings (400) – Unknown
    Media: Paint
    Location: Monte Alban, Mexico

The archaeological site of Monte Alban is located in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, about six miles from the state capital. It was a large city of the Zapotec and the tombs at Monte Alban are considered some of the richest archaeological sites in Mexico. Those tombs were also intricately painted with scenes that scholars believe were meant to represent the underworld; these paintings were always dominated by the color red.

The murals have degraded over time, of course, with much of the detail and vibrancy being lost. Some museums have created replicas of the Monte Alban tombs complete with mural replicas. While these murals are only replicas, they do perhaps give us an idea of how the tombs might have looked during the times they were painted. Above is a picture of one of the actual murals at Monte Alban; below, a replica that may help us think about how it looked at the time.

Looks like the kind of amazing thing about these is the intricacy of the designs and the details. Which, unfortunately, are the things that have been lost to the ravages of time. I'm not a fan of replicas really, but I think it's helpful in this case because the originals are just so degraded.

ArtStation - Avengers: Infinity War - Iron Strange concept (2017), Phil Saunders
"One early script idea that didn't make into the final movie was this hybrid of the Iron Man Mk 50 suit and Dr. Strange. This would have been for a scene in the Q ship when Tony and Spidey are trying to rescue Dr. Strange from Ebony Maw. To protect Strange from Maw's magic needle torture, Tony transfers his suit onto him. I imagined the Eye of Agamotto would have taken the place of Tony's RT and powered the suit, burning a sigil around it. Later in the scene Tony gets Strange's cloak, leading to a bizarre team-up. Could have been cool, I don't know why they cut it from the script."

ArtStation - Avengers: Infinity War - Iron Strange Keyframe (2017), Phil Saunders
"Early in the script of Infinity War, Dr. Strange was going to be rescued from Ebony Maw's torture by Tony, who transfers his Mk50 Suit onto him. This keyframe represents the suit forming onto Strange and protecting him from Maw's magic needles."
