Obi-Wan certainly has his hands full doesn't he? I bet he's wishing for the good old days when all he had to handle was Anakin Skywalker! Now, what is Padme's secret? I need to know!

I was told to read this story and I am so glad I have. Your characters are amazing! I see them from the movies, but they are just enough different that your story seems so right, so very much more correct than Canon! :D

    Fantastic!

    Grrr...what is Padme up to?!

 Wow, Obi. And Riane...well, even a little time with Palpatine (or Anakin, possibly) is too much time, I think.

And for some reason, I have a hunch that Palpatine already knows exactly who the bounty hunter/attacker is.

    *still whacking Palpy*

If you don't tell us what Padme is up to soon I think I just may implode. Okay, now that I've gotten that off my chest - great job!

I'd like to think Anakin will see the light before it is too late, but I don't know. He's pretty damn stubborn.

Anakin!! Obi-Wan makes sense! You don't want to drive your wife's would be killer in hiding now, would you (or make him push his plan up more)?

Obi-Wan does make sense, and Anakin knows it. Unfortunately, it is hard for him to be sensible when he is worried that he may lose someone else he loves.

    Thanks for reading! :)

    CommanderK23

Dude, this was a really good chapter Gina. I liked the conversations; Obi-Wan/Anakin, Padmé/Dormé, Obi-Wan/Ríane.

    Thank you! :D

I'm really beginning to wonder what Padmé is up to...

Soon. Very soon. ;) Thanks for your comments!

    Koori

Nice addition Gina. Have to admit I was a little surprised Obi-Wan did that, but now that I think about it, it makes sense. He learned something from his time with Anakin.

He did learn from his time with Anakin, and he didn't do what he did out of anger. Ríane's arrogance frightened him, and he wanted his son to realize that the Force, being a Jedi, is about more than just being able to levitate things. It's about discipline, control over emotions, etc? It gave Ríane a chance to vent his frustrations but also was a learning experience.

Thanks so much for your review! :D

    Jedikma

Very emotional between Obi-Wan and Riane. I really enjoyed how you wrote that confrontation.

Thanks! I spent a lot of time on that scene because I wanted it to properly convey what both characters are going through. I'm glad it came across well.

Still teasing us about what Padme is up to!!

LOL! Yes, but not much longer.

    Thanks for reading! :)

    Kynstar

I'm glad though that Anakin is giving him 2 days at least... Perhaps the young man has learned some patience... perhaps I said!

Anakin and patience?!? Nah! :p Seriously though, he has most certainly matured, but he is still a man very much ruled by his emotions.

Glad you liked the scene between Obi-Wan and Ríane. Thanks for your review! :D

    VaderLVR64

Way to go, Obi! That's what being a parent is all about. Love it!

Yes, being a parent is definitely not always easy.

Thanks, VL. Glad you liked it. [face_blush]

    My-T-Chewbacca

Obi-Wan certainly has his hands full doesn't he? I bet he's wishing for the good old days when all he had to handle was Anakin Skywalker!

    LOL! Probably.

Now, what is Padme's secret? I need to know!

The answer is coming soon! Thanks for reading. :)

    DreamOfKenobi

    Welcome to the story! :)

Your characters are amazing! I see them from the movies, but they are just enough different that your story seems so right, so very much more correct than Canon!

That is so kind. I'm very flattered. Thank you very much! [face_blush] [face_blush] I'm glad you are enjoying the story.

Thank you! Welcome to the story. :D

    Grrr...what is Padme up to?!

    You'll see very soon.

Wow, Obi. And Riane...well, even a little time with Palpatine (or Anakin, possibly) is too much time, I think.

    You are quite correct.

And for some reason, I have a hunch that Palpatine already knows exactly who the bounty hunter/attacker is.

    [face_mischief] [face_mischief]

    Thanks for your review! :)

    BrokenNoseOfQui-Gon

If you don't tell us what Padme is up to soon I think I just may implode.

I promise, Padmé's plan will be revealed very, very soon! ;)

I'd like to think Anakin will see the light before it is too late, but I don't know. He's pretty damn stubborn.

He is indeed stubborn, but he has two people who care for him deeply. They aren't going to let him go without a fight.

Thanks for reading and for commenting! :D

    CapnJaxWench

    Hi, there!

This story is really rolling along. I am dying to know what Padme is up to, though? Any hints?

No hints, but I'm not above bribes. :p Just kidding. All will be revealed soon.

    Chapter 29
    An Unexpected Departure

Almost an hour had passed when Obi-Wan finally led Ríane back to their quarters, the boy's face tear-stained and weary. He mumbled something about going to bed and refused his father's offer of food. As the door to his personal room closed behind Ríane, Obi-Wan sat down in a worn chair next to the small window in the living area, rubbing his tired eyes as he exhaled slowly. He only hoped his son's experience and outbursts in the training room would help to calm the storm that was brewing within him.

Although Obi-Wan knew they were said in anger, Ríane's words to him earlier in the training room had stung him deeply, mainly because he realized they were true. Obi-Wan reached out and began to tug at a loose thread on the chair's arm as his mind wandered back to the training room floor. As his father had held him tightly, Ríane had pounded furiously at Obi-Wan's chest, hurling accusations, crying out for the mother he so desperately missed and cursing the Force for taking her from him. Letting his own tears flow freely, Obi-Wan had not said a word but merely listened, his heart breaking at his son's pain. At last, the boy had fallen silent, and his body shook, his sobs soaking the front of his father's tunic. They had remained there, on the cold, hard floor, until Ríane finally grew still and there were no more tears to be shed.

The comlink at Obi-Wan's side began to beep shrilly, bringing the Jedi Master's mind back to the present. He cleared his throat, taking a moment to gain his composure.

    "Yes?" Obi-Wan finally acknowledged.

"Master Kenobi, I have the information you requested earlier." Jocasta Nu told him in her terse tones. "If you care to retrieve it immediately, I will remain in the Archives until you arrive."

Obi-Wan looked uncertainly at Ríane's door. He hated to disturb him, and he knew the boy wanted to be alone. "Yes, thank you. I will be there momentarily," he told her as he exited his quarters.

Several minutes later, when he was sure his father was gone, Ríane emerged from his room, a traveling bag slung carelessly over his shoulder.

    **********

It was nearing dusk when Obi-Wan finally returned to his quarters. As soon as he stepped across the threshold, the Jedi Master sensed that something was amiss. He gave a cursory glance around the small living area, noticing nothing unusual.

Tentatively, he made his way to Ríane's private sleeping quarters. "Ríane," he called as he knocked softly. When he didn't receive an answer, Obi-Wan assumed the boy was asleep and pressed a button to open the door. His eyes widened in horror as he took in the state of the room. Clothing hung haphazardly from the drawers, and the closet, for the most part, had been emptied.

A sense of dread still prickling against his spine, Obi-Wan raced to his own private sleeping quarters, immediately noticing that his own tiny closet had been ransacked. He hurried to the closet and felt his throat constrict in fear as he saw a slender, rectangular box lying precariously atop the heap of tunics. Obi-Wan picked up the box and slowly opened it. His heart began to pound furiously in his chest as he realized it was empty.

    "No," he whispered fearfully.

With shaking hands, Obi-Wan reached for his comlink.

    ************

Following his conversation with Obi-Wan, a frustrated Anakin had returned to the Senate. Knowing that his protectiveness would only irritate his wife, he had opted to access Padmé's schedule for the remainder of the day from a terminal in his personal chambers rather than by contacting a member of her staff.

Now, at day's end, Anakin made his way quickly to his wife's office, knowing that Padmé's final committee meeting of the day would be ending at any moment. He did not want her to journey home unescorted and was determined to reach her before she departed. When he entered the outer reception area, Padmé's assistant greeted him warmly.

"Good evening, Neila. I was hoping Padmé would accompany me home," he called back

If you kill Riane I am going to be very

I'll still love the story, but really, really  !!!!!

In the chase, Ríane's traveling bag had come to rest on his chest, and the boy now clutched at it fearfully. His heartbeat pounding in his throat, Ríane reached slowly into the bag, his motions hidden from the troopers behind him. His fingers groped in the bag until they at last fell on the cold cylinder. Ríane let the bag fall to the ground, his thumb hovering over the cylinder's button.

This is bad, very, very bad.

And what the heck is Padme up to!?????????

Okay, Gina, that's one of the worst cliffhangers I've seen in quite a while! :p You have to post again soon now.

Poor, poor Riane. I'm just feeling more and more sorry for him. I can't blame him for lashing out and for his anger and pain. He's been taken away from all that was familiar to him, surrounded by people who are still virtually strangers to him, and he really doesn't fit in at the Temple. No wonder he's acting this way.

I loved the confrontation between Riane and Obi, and the ending, with Obi holding him and trying to offer comfort, was just so sweet. But they obviously still have a ways to go. I'm very curious as to what Riane's plans were. Was he going back to his aunt, or try to live on his own, or had Palpatine offered him some secret way to train with him.

Whatever, he's gotten himself in a mess now. I can't wait to see what you have in mind here. And to see how Anakin's going to react to Padme's little scheme--not terribly well, I'd guess. ;)

Wow, Riane has really come out of his shell, and has once again become the center of attention. Anakin seemed so concentrated on doing Palpatine's bidding until now. Perhaps helping Riane will finally allow him realize how evil the Chancellor really is. It also helps Anakin rebuild his relationship with Obi-Wan.

    Resolve the cliffhanger soon... please?

Ríane is very confused and frustrated right now. Unfortunately, his actions will have serious implications for those around him.

Riane! STUPID BOY! Why did you have to go do something like that!?!

Okay, Gina, that's one of the worst cliffhangers I've seen in quite a while!

    I'll take that as a compliment. :p

I loved the confrontation between Riane and Obi, and the ending, with Obi holding him and trying to offer comfort, was just so sweet.

Thanks! That was another one of those scenes where I really wanted to convey the characters' emotions properly, so I'm glad you liked it.

I'm very curious as to what Riane's plans were. Was he going back to his aunt, or try to live on his own, or had Palpatine offered him some secret way to train with him.

In all honesty, Ríane had no idea where he was going. He just knew he wanted to run. That's why he started having second thoughts. But yes, you're right, regardless of his motives, he is in serious trouble.

Thanks for the review, kristeh! :D

    Vivid_Scripts

Ríane has definitely taken center stage, but not in the way he had hoped. ;)

It also helps Anakin rebuild his relationship with Obi-Wan.

Ríane has helped them rebuild their relationship. It would be such a pity if someone else tore them apart. [face_devil]

Obi-Wan definitely has his hands full and I think that dinner with Palpy didn't help matters.

I'm glad Anakin didn't go with his gut instinct and report directly to his 'employer!' I'm glad that he's giving Obi-Wan some time.

And the duel was just wonderful! Obi-Wan is a good father, he knew that Riane needed an outlet to express his feelings [face_love] Really enjoying seeing their relationship evolve. Yes, Obi-Wan has his hands full :D

I am so curious to see what Padme is up to!
