Cool, that's an excellent drawing, I've never achieved that level of photo-realism myself - out of interest was that drawn completely freehand, or was he tracing over a faint pencil line to start with? Because the placement of the staff etc was so precise that it makes it incredible that it could be placed so accurately. Nothing wrong with tracing from a guide, it's the tone and the detailing that make it look real, just wondering. (also, this will probably get moved to the everything fan made thread)

 

That was brilliant! Just out of curiosity, how long did that take in real time, and what kind of pencils does he use?

Yes, at first he did a sketch. If i'm not mistaken, i think everybody's doing this.
Anyway...the result is what matters the most. It is not so very important what technique a person uses, as long as he creates something so delightful.

I don't know exactly how much time he spent drawing this portrait...probably about 24 hours. From what i know he uses mechanical pencils, and some others from Faber C.

Aye, it's definitely the end result that matters - I've traced when accuracy is essential (for illustration jobs and commissions) but try to minimise it so I can make sure I don't lose the knack of getting a likeness - it's the little inaccuracies for me that show what the artist feels about the subject. But yeah, that drawing is absolutely excellent, even with a guideline I wouldn't be able to do that

I reversed the layout (should be back, spine, front) because it looks better posting like this.

 

Looks good, A bit of constructive criticism.
The back image of Rey shouldn't overlap with text, EVER. It can be a pain sometimes but it's just one of those rules.

 

I'm doing a third attempt at a Drew Struzan style illustrated poster for TFA, here's the work in progress, drawn free hand (not traced as Struzan does)
Maybe nightangel can give approval to the likeness before I carry on? I want Luke to be the focal point
