well, blowing up the death star would probably send the name "Skywalker" to fame quicker than Jar Jar eats apples

that's the real victory Obi-Wan will have in Episode 3, keeping the secret - NOT beating Anakin in combat

if he is unaware theat padme is pregnant at all, then how did he suddenly jump to the conclsuion that whoever blew up the death star is his son?

Because that was the first time Luke actively used the force on purpose, which would have sent out "signals" so to speak. It was not until this point that Vader realized he had a son, and who his son was. Plus with a name like Skywalker, and a little knowldedge of where he came from, Vader would have had to have been an idiot to not figure it out. Esp since I believe that Anakin will know Padme is pregnant, but may fear the child dead with her, as I am also in the camp that believes she dies.

I think this will be the SECOND most emotional duel...

Personally I think the MOST emotional duel HAS to be in Episode VI, in the emperor's throne room. EVERYTHING about it-how they fight(with great emotion and dramatic energy), where they fight(in space, in front of the emperor-the most powerful Sith Lord, in the most powerful weapon in the galaxy that COULD spell certain doom for the rebellion), WHO is fighting (good vs. evil and ALSO father vs. son), And even the music played during the duel adds a greatly dramatic and epic feel to it all...

Think about it, Luke is fighting his father, in a final duel that could determine exactly which path the future will take. It's the epitomy of the whole saga. It ALL comes down to THIS moment! Luke is fighting both to redeem Anakin to the good side of the force, AND for the freedom of the galaxy...Will Darth Vader die and Anakin return???? Will the emperor and his evil be destroyed once and for all? You can just feel as Luke is fighting Darth Vader the climactic energy, from the first saber strike right up to the moment the redeemed Anakin kills Palpatine...

THAT must be the most emotional, but I bet the one in Ep. III will be a close runner up!

Anakin vs. Obi-Wan: Will this be the most emotional duel ever?

    Most Emotional: No
    Most Anticipated: Yes

This is one duel I have been waiting to see for as long as I can remember watching Star Wars, and I have been watching Star Wars for most of my 25 years alive. First wondered why Obi's pupil Darth Vader would attack Obi's friend Anakin Skywalker. Then wondered why Anakin would turn into Vader, and what Obi's reaction was, and how both Ben and Vader were able to survive.

Sorry if this answer was already given, but I was to lazy to go read through the past 50 or so posts.

this duel has the possiblity to change the impact the entire saga has on people... I can already imagine right now that I will watch jake lloyd in a different light, in particular that scene when obiwan tells him that he will be a jedi. I think it will definatly change the way I see anakin in AOTC. It may even change a lot of the way I veiw darth vader, and perhaps the way I view the battle between luke and vader depending on how the battle plays out.

It's hard to imagine how this battle couldn't be the most imotional moment in the saga, you have anakin who has grown up before our eyes, and as apposed to the standard story archtype of having the person redeemed at the end of the trilogy/movie he isn't (although he is later down the road, but that will not have the same impact IMO). Then you have Obiwan who is his friend/mentor/father figure, and there has to be some sort of reason to escelate the tension.

but at the same time there is definately possiblity of let down... IMO one of the most essential things is that we believe the conflict between the two of them, that the reasons for them fighting each other are brought out in the appropriate mannor.

I also think one possible outcome that would be great, would be if obiwan has the chance to kill anakin but just can't bring himself to do it, that he believes there is redemption in him. or on the other hand perhaps he leaves him crippled with an oppertunity to help him but leaves him to die, only to find out that he lives, which would create the fear that leads him to hide on tattoine.

I'm so pumped for this battle.. lately thinking about it has sent chills down my spine

I totally agree with you, REBEL_SKUM...

I ALSO feel that, after this battle, I will definately look at Darth Vader in a Whole new way. which will be cool-it'll ADD to his character.

I don't think this will be the most EMOTIONAL, but it will have a very dramatic impact on the connection between The prequel trilogy (mainly Ep. III) to Episode IV, and between Anakin and Obi Wan's attitudes toward each other.

And I totally agree with your thoughts on this, Belo.

The ROTJ duel will have to be the most important and emotional for all that's at stake, but the Ep3 could definitely run it close because we all know what the outcome will lead to...certainly, from an athletic and skillful point of view, it'll outstrip the others. Even TPM, possibly.

I agree with you also Skum, but I do think this will be the most emotional. Nick G. and Rick M. have said things in official chats that make me believe that it will be.

Of course, both it and the ROTJ duel are emotional. They are both a fight for a man's soul- losing and regaining it. In fact, The Duel will probably make the one in ROTJ even more powerful.

But because The Duel will be so long and encompassing there has to be something going on there besides just fighting. For dramatic tension it needs doubt- *maybe* Obi-Wan can save Anakin, *maybe* Obi-Wan is faced with killing him and can't, *maybe* Anakin can't kill him either etc. There has to be doubt and conflict in both of them. I mean just thinking about what they're going to say to each other is chilling. It will not all be simple battle words, it's always personal with Anakin. Words of anger mixed with fear and grief opposing words of redemption, hope and sacrifice. How could it not be the most emotional?

I believe it will be the most intense. More then TPM. Not sure about more emotinal. But seeing Anakin get beat my be emotion enough.

I did not have a problem with the AOTC duel. Thought maybe it was toned down so it would not out do the Anakin/Obi duel. Thought it was done fine.

I didn't have a problem with it either, but it wasn't toned done because of worry about overshadowing The Duel. It was just a taste of what is to come, it didn't need to be more than that.

And if we can believe what's been said about it so far (by Hayden, Ewan, George, Rick, Nick), The Duel will be one of the best fight scenes ever on film- length, skill and emotion wise.

Just to add to what Scum said. The reason the dual between Dooku and Ani was purpsoely short, and in the shadows is b/c they will fight again in epIII. This is speculation, not guessing. But Qui-Jonn & Maul fought twice during tpm, the first one was in a sand storm, as to blur the fight, and not take away from the second fight which was more important, as it saw the death of Qui Jonn, and the rise of Obi Wann to the rank of Jedi Knight, from padawan.

Im guessing there will be a second fight between Dooku & Anakin, which will be more important than the one in AOTC, as the next fight will probally result in Anakins fall to the DarkSide. This fight could very well mirror that of the throne room in rotj. Or the Jedi could see this as his test, and becoming a Jedi Knight. While the Emperor will use this to annoint him into the ranks of the Sith.

That's the way I've always thought of it, Ghost_Jedi. If not a throne room type situation, at least something similar where Anakin gets revenge on Dooku with a helping hand from the Dark Side.

The fact that all of the principle actors and team involved with the Ep3 duel speak so highly of it bodes well...especially guys like Gillard and McGregor. I really thought Gillard would want to go full-on intense with this last SW film, to really showcase some special stuff.

Yes, undoubtedly there will be a second fight between Dooku and Anakin. It is the general belief that Anakin kills Dooku. And it will be important. But it is a bit of a jump to suppose that it "results in his fall to the Dark Side"... as well as "mirroring the throne room in ROTJ'. It's more likely that the Obi-Wan/Anakin Duel mirrors that. And it's that Duel, The Duel, that annoints him to the rank of Sith.

We don't know what's going to happen with Dooku. I'm sure they'll fight, but I don't think it has any bearing at all on The Duel. Dooku is a minor character, I don't believe he'll be given a major part in Anakin's fall... Ani killing him (maybe using a bit of the DS) would just be one more step. And it makes sense that it's a test from Sidious (before he reveals himself, just to make sure). The fight where all the important stuff is going to happen is Obi-Wan/Anakin... not Dooku, not Mace...

I believe that the Count is more of a transitional character:

He is the character that Sid uses as an apprentice/underling between Maul & Anakin

He is the character that Sid uses to set up the Jedi for thier fall in the Republic: the Clone Army, sets up thier desire to investgate the Senate/Palp.

He is the character that Sid uses to show to Anakin that other Jedi, more experienced Jedi, have turned their back on the Jedi for more power through the Sith.

Edit Forgot to add one thing:

He is the character that Sid will use to test Anakin, and see if he deserves to become a Sith

bah - it's true he's only a minor character, but that's too bad.

If there was one thing I would change about the PT besides removing Jar-Jar and the Gungans, it would be briefly including Dooku in TPM and expanding his screen time in AOTC.

    I think he's a fantastic character.

Unfortunately, I understand that Dooku will have to take a back seat to Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, and Padme in Episode III.

And I agree Lucas seems to be setting it up for a Throne Room -like conflict where Anakin gives in to his hate and anger ("you're going to pay for all the Jedi you killed today, Dooku!").

Episode III is going to be quite the rollercoaster ride - emotionally and in terms of action, it's going to be the hardest-hitting of the PT and perhaps the entire saga.

By the time we get to The Duel, I wonder if we'll want Obi-Wan to SAVE Anakin or to KILL him?

If we can feel that kind of emotion at that point, then Lucas will truly be vindicated for the entire thing.

Another point about Dooku...another thing he represents is that a Jedi can fall to the Dark Side.

Ghost_Jedi you're right about Dooku being a transitional character. Maul was bang for the buck, Dooku does have more of a character, but he's really a set up for Anakin. Palpatine's just using him, for his CIS connections to help along the war, while he waits until Anakin is ready. And yes, I think seeing if Anakin will kill Dooku will be part of Sidious' test. But I also think that will occur near the beginning of Episode III before he really gets dark- from what I've heard and managed to put together. And Christopher Lee spent very little time filming.

And yes Damon he also represents a Jedi who can fall. Good point. That way it doesn't seem so out there.

I do think Dooku will be a step on the path for Anakin, not the climax. I would be surprised if someone or something else defeated Dooku though, Anakin just seems the best possible fit for this.
