    According to the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/4249244.stm

But I agree on recent form you'd pick Strauss or Trescothic

    I would pick Trescothick

Maybe they want Vaughn cos they need someone to bat at 3 or 4

    Why thank you!

Sure thing, on recent form you'd say Trescothick would be your pick for a batsman, average of 43ish in the Ashes and a career average of 45ish - if he keeps his form and fitness, he could very well turn out to be one of England's most sucessful batsmen.

Btw, Cricket fans should try out this Cricket game I found on the web: [http://www.stickcricket.com] - Pure addiction!!

Edit: WTF is going on with the crazy link thing? Can I get it to work? Can I......

Wasn't it funny eariler in the week, seeing our supposedly football loving, man of the people, Prime Minister suddenly converted to something as old fashioned and conservative as Cricket? I wonder why he made that conversion.....???????

Not least we expect from the bandwagon hoping, joke of a leader called Tony Bliar (I seem to recall his love of football and Britpop as two previous examples). In fact I did mention that I though he'd jump onto the Cricket popularity train. Funny to see the Cricketers arrive at Downing Street only to be told there was only pinapple juice and water, when Tony realised that they wouldn't be staying much longer if that were the case a few bottles of warm white wine appeared! [face_laugh]

    True story.

Its possible to like lots of things at once
I like Cricket and football, so its possible (though unlikely) that Tony Blair really likes both sports

Theres liking things, then jumping the bandwagon just to make yourself popular. Tony Bliar is famous for trying to be everyones favourite person.

Amazing, considering he is one of the most hated people in the country!

    Well done Tony :p

I still find it odd that leaders are so unpopular, but everyone still seems to vote for them [face_thinking]

I have always disliked glory hunters who only like something so they get attention from others or are liked.
Most of my friends hate cricket and dont understand it, but I still watch it

I'm more of that ilk richtea, Don' get all the rules of cricket, but know enough to know when i'm watchin a good game and to enjoy it. If its England finaly on form then all the better. I mean we should be top of these sports, We did invent most of them.

Ask yourself, is the Prime Minister really that popular when only 1 in 5 people who could vote for him, actually did.

In terms of the popular vote, he is probably the least popular PM of modern times.

Maybe, but he still won the election
If he was really that unpopular, he wouldn't get majority of the votes

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, the leader of Britain would like to congratulate a British (well, Engliah and Welsh anyway) sporting team on doing such a fine job of representing their country?

Do you really have to like a sport to appreciate it when someone does well? Try and look at it from his point of view. What's he going to do? Send them on their way and ignore them, saying "sorry chaps, but I don't really like cricket".

He would be villified for not paying his respect and admiration to such a fine sporting team. But being the Prime Minister, he's bound to get the whole "band waggon" thing if he goes anywhere near them.

And please don't start with all this "Yeah, but he's just a leech, he's never been to Lords, he likes football", etc, etc.

Can everyone just grow up a bit, please be a bit more mature and try living in the real world.

    Anyway.....

The Australian team to play the World XI is going to be announced this afternoon. It's expected that the batting lineup won't change, but the bowling will undergo a few mods.

Gillie and Kasper won't be recalled apparently.

I hope Tendulkar plays, much as I admire Vaughn, I want to see the best batsman in the world go round.
