So, here we are. My radicalization is complete. Let's talk about how to protect ourselves and our communities from the concerningly large amount of mask-off fascists roaming around these days.

Here are some great resources I found while browsing r/SocialistRA, which I recommend checking out. This mostly covers the basics of firearm safety and self defense.

    Rifles for Rookies

Protect Yourself - The Secret to Unarmed Self Defense

    Where There is No Doctor

These are important to ensure a basic level of tactical readiness. I wish there were more good resources concerning organization and communication for community defense groups. It's become very apparent that the police cannot be trusted to protect us, and are often actively malicious towards minorities and the populace in general. Hence why these groups are so important. Does anyone have any more resources they could share?

I think it's generally a bad idea to become a gun owner just to protect yourself from a threat you've never encountered irl. You'll be going into gun culture with a set of expectations that will be probably never get realized, and it'll be tempting to keep arming up, making decisions that are theoretical but introduce danger into your life.

But I don't know about your circumstances so maybe it's something you need to do, idk. I would recommend that if you have friends who are gun owners, ask to go shooting with them sometime and start from there.

I would recommend getting at least a basic level Emergency Medical Technician certification. They are offered in different formats, evening or weekend classes for about 10-12 weeks are common, as well as full time classes for 4-5 weeks. And they cost about $1,000.

You learn a lot, and it makes the body much less of a mystery. Based on the knowledge in this class alone you can become fairly literate in medical science. And you'll acquire a range of skills in first aid and in how to use basic medical equipment. You are also taught how to make competent medical assessments of what somebody might be experiencing, which is something required on the job itself in order to relay that information to another provider of a higher level of care.

By no means does it make you any kind of expert. But the jump from knowing nothing to having at least this level of knowledge is absolutely worth it. A lot of situations that might seem unthinkable or impossible to know anything about, whether it's happening to somebody else or directly to you, will then become situations that won't appear as daunting to potentially intervene in.

Plus you'll have an understanding of how the Police, Fire, EMS, 911, and Hospital Emergency system works, and can be aware of some of the things that are going on around you at any given time.

And just by having the certification, you'll always be able to find work in a pinch if need be. And in a decent field. Either way, it's a good certification to have.

I'm actually planning on going into EMS myself and work towards becoming a paramedic. EMT is how you start out. And I'm not unaware of the fact that it provides some solid know-how in case things get really bad.

Well for one, don't try to be a hero.

Do what you can to know how to protect yourself. But trying to be a hero is just going to get you killed.

I was offering my recommendation in addition to other things you can do. I'm not trained on firearms at the moment and don't want to speak on something I have little familiarity with.

The best way to prep for the collapse of civil society, fall of civilization etc. - dig a hole 8 feet long, 3 feet wide and 6 feet deep, then lay down in the bottom of it and wait quietly for the sweet embrace of death.

I want to remind everyone that this is just the community board of a Star Wars messageboard and not really a place you should be going to discuss resources for self-defense and things of that nature. That's way out of scope for this forum.

I mean, the U.S. Elections are pretty outside the scope of Star Wars. This sub-forum exists for things that aren't Star Wars.

This, because often if you have a gun you will be killed with your own weapon. That's why I wouldn't ever want to have one in my house.

That's my plan. I've never handled a gun before, largely due to my own fears surrounding them. But I have some friends who are former Military who offered to take me shooting sometime, which I'd like to take them up on. But the way I see it, there's a first step for everything, and it's better to go into the experience with a clear goal and reasoning in-mind. I live in Georgia, which is a mix of about half far right yahoos and half center left regular people. And given the state flipping blue along with the Capital Hill riot, I just do not believe that it will be long before there are further violent incidents down here, either from Law Enforcement or Far Right militias. Hence why I feel it's necessary at this moment.

Also, this iconic quote from ya boi:

"Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary."

    Karl Marx

I whole heartedly accept this suggestion. 2ay better than my title.

We should hook Outsourced up with @DarthBoba. A war veteran in Georgia and all-around good guy... who happens to have his own shooting range.

While it might sound counter-intuitive, not having a gun in these situations actually increases your chances to survive.
