Discussions Anyone else had some trouble getting past the first few missions of X wing

I recently bought it. Seems like a very fun game although I do find it quite difficult. Matter of fact I still cant get past the mission where you have to help a pair of rebel frigates rescue mon calamari slaves.
Has anyone else had a problem with these first few missions? Does anyone have any tips to help me get past it? I admit I've been stuck on it for the past few days. I should mention I am very new to flight sims.
