I'm sure this has been posted to some of the other Fanforce boards, but I don't read those, so I thought I'd post it here:

    http://www.cnn.com/2002/SHOWBIZ/Movies/09/10/film.star.wars.reut/index.html

Essentially, they are going to release Attack of the Clones on IMAX on November 1. No word yet if the Houston IMAX will get it, but it damn well better, or I will bust some heads!

EDIT: Great news, good luck in Galveston!!! :D

It's doubtful that Houston will get it.... the Imax theater at the Museum of Natural Science does not have the correct equipment to run a film longer than about 60 minutes, plus the management there wisely wish to exhibit educational films there.

There is a good chance that the Dallas Imax at Cinemark will get it, and maybe San Antonio or Austin.

Galveston is unlikely, and I would bet good money that HMNS will not pay out nearly a million dollars for the new reel unit needed to show a film that long.

Questions? email me and I'll explain it. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's the reality of it.

(On the other hand, I have alreted the Imax community to the existence of the 501st, so hopefully there will be some cool activities at the Imax theaters across the country that will get AOTC.)

Sorry to interrupt, but if all else fails, there is an IMAX theater here in my home of New Orleans. The theater will be showing Apollo 13 in mid September so it is safe to say that it will be showing AOTC in November.

Soooooooo . . . maybe some of you would like to organize a trip to N.O. to enjoy the movie. A round-trip ticket from Houston to New Orleans is less than $100.00 on Southwest Airlines or about an 8-hour drive, depending on what you feel most comfortable doing. And, hey, there's always the bus!

So if things don't work out in or near Houston with IMAX, please consider coming to N.O.

I think you guys are forgetting about the IMAX over at the Edwards by Jillians. They had the reformatted Beauty and the Beast when it was released. My bet is it will show there.

There is also an IMAX at the Johnson Space Center...

Oh, and trust me, I _WILL_ see this movie on IMAX, no matter how far I have to drive. :D

I bet Jillians gets it. If it doesn't, good bet Dallas will. I'm always up for a Dallas roadtrip.

If it doesn't go to that Edward's by Jillians, I swear I'll never see a movie in the city of Houston again.

Okay, maybe not never, but I won't be too happy about it.

    :p

I have to say, I am so excited about seeing AOTC in Imax.

When we find the closest place showing it, lets try to get tickets together and organize a group trip to go see it.

I am willing to spend a vacation day if need be. :)

I caught a snippet in the news saying something about AotC being at the IMAX, and I only assumed that they meant it would be local, since it was the local news, but I could be wrong. Is there a website to check? And I thought the IMAX was closed at Jillians ?[face_plain]

Once we have a location on the Imax, we'll plan a group viewing. If anyone hears anything, please post it.

My money would be on a couple of weeks. I mean, the release is only in a month and a half. I bet we'll know by sometime early October.

Bad news. According to someone over at the Home Theater Forum, Lucasfilm is gonna trim the running time of the IMAX version of Episode II(at IMAX's request, I'm certain) from 143 minutes down to 120.

I'll do a little more research and see if I can confirm this report. But if it turns out to be true, there's no way in hell I'm paying to see a bastardized version of the film. I've already gone on record as saying that I'll never purchase the Holy Trilogy on DVD if Lucas doesn't offer the original cuts, so this IMO is an even bigger disgrace.

!!!??!!! That doesn't make a lick of sense. If you learn it is true, please tell us. I still want to go, anyway. Though I agree with your general outlook, Dough-Ku, my interest in seeing AOTC at Imax is all for visual appeal, nothing more. Yet, if they cut out the fireplace scene and the Yoda duel, I'll like it better! 8-} *Sigh* yes, I know that won't happen, but one can dream ;)

EDIT - ok, its been confirmed, its on the front page of TF.N but they said they are going to keep the intgrity of the story. whatever that means.

Ugh, that means they'll wack out 23 minutes of cool stuff and leave us with the Darth-Stalker and Senator Enabler story line intact :(

This turn of events is unfortunate. I must say, I am not in the slightest bit thrilled about this news. What of my beautiful story are they going to hack out?

Nevertheless, I shall be there still to see it on the IMAX screen.

My $0.02, they could definitely cut some of the cheesy Anakin/Amidala dialogue on Naboo, and I don't particularly need to see Lucas' version of the "Hills Are Alive" scene from the Sound of Music. They could probably cut down on some of the exposition on Kamino. Ah well, I'd probably make an awful movie editor... :)

On the other hand, I would have to mangle someone if they cut any part of the duel, cause that is just gonna rock on the IMAX screen!
